  1. I just want to be able to remotely ensure that an outlet is powered up. Smart plugs require apps, and I don't want to have to depend on an unknown entity's software. My thought is that I could ping a server attached to the outlet and know that it is powered up. Mini PCs are a bit over built. What is the smallest/cheapest piece of hardware that has wifi and can be remotely tested for being on? Do you have a better idea for a solution? Would love some help. Thanks.
  2. The manual for my Asus Maximus VIII Impact motherboard specifies: My i7-6700k CPU supports 64GB of memory. They make 32GB modules. Are some or all Z170 systems incompatible with modules greater than 16gb in capacity?
  3. I think I would try and find the cheapest 4-5 star rated Lenovo with an SSD. The stars should indicate quailty, Lenovo tends to make good keyboards, and an SSD makes a big difference. Then I would compare the difference in cost to a modern machine and evaluate the CPU performance delta.
  4. Auslogics registry cleaner has fixed a lot of problems in my time.
  5. I could be wrong but isn't the GPU the more important component for physics simulations? Therefore, you'd want the best graphics you could get for $700? Maybe a used Dell G3 with a Max-Q 1060 and an i7-8750H?
  6. Based on the spec I'd guess that the Lenovo would blow the Dell out of the water in terms of battery life. I tend to prefer Lenovo's keyboards as well. The H processor in the Dell and the P600 use like double the watts, and should have to either run hotter, or louder (cooling fans), then the Lenovo. However, I might try and get something with a 1050ti, even the P600 won't get you stellar gaming performance. The 50% increase in performance to a 1050 would make the difference between meeting the Darksouls III minimum system requirement, for example. It really depends of course on your gaming needs.
  7. Thanks for all your input Pyramiden. I understand that your analogy is addressing a different point, but this is at the heart of my inquiry. I just want to know what an MX Master has that would make it a more compelling option than cutting edge carbon fiber. It can't be denied that something is being given up. But, what is being gained in exchange? It isn't price, unless you're comparing it to a G Pro wireless. Where is the analogy saying that the MX is like fine dining in contrast to a gaming mouse's protein powder and carbo-load dinner? Both are expensive. Both have their advantages. Even if this analogy were presented, it would still beg the question, shouldn't I have both on hand? For when fine dining doesn't cut the mustard? (Hehe, wordplay.)
  8. Haha, wow, your mouse has great comedic timing
  9. That is something to google, it seems to, generally, be ill-advised, from what I've read.
  10. So, no impact on usability, just more pleasant? Is the comfort delta so great as to make it worth switching between two mice, do you think?
  11. Why is an MX Master mouse better for design than a gaming mouse? What is it doing better?
