My thumb rule for prebuilts is to always look for deals https://www.microcenter.com/product/507383/xps-8930-desktop-pc This one, for instance is a great deal.

That 9400 would bottleneck the 2080, I would probably get a 2070 and a 9600k instead and make use of that z390 board at the same time.

That PSU is pretty junk, it might not be providing adequate power to the GPU. "Critical Process Died" usually indicates hardware failure. The Rx 590 is a fairly power hungry card, that could be the issue

It won't be a BIOS issue since the problem only occurs when he uses two RAM sticks -

Glad he got the money back. If any of the pins are bent then that might be causing that. -

Fedora, is by far my favorite. But I have started liking Manjaro as well. -

Sounds like a dead memory controller, can you check the CPU for any bent pins and/or see if you can get a refund from it's previous owner or at least get some money back? -

As BigRom stated, wait till Ryzen 3 arrives, it will definetely change things.

It's a pretty bad psu, get a 400W Pure Power 10 or a CX450/550, as the 570 and 580 are some power hungry cards

Repurposing old PC (i5 2500k)
lmaobadatmath replied to lmaobadatmath's topic in New Builds and Planning
Storage server sounds pretty nice. What would be the optimal way of doing that? I do have some more old hard drives lying around that I could probably put in it. Would RAID be any good for such a config? -
Hey guys Ever since I upgraded to my i7 9700k my old system has been lying around, essentially doing nothing else but collecting dusr. I have no idea what to do with it, but I don't want to recycle it as I am pretty sure it can be used for something cool. The specs are as follows: intel Core i5 2500k (OC @ 4.8 GHz) ASUS P8P67 PRO Cooler Master H100 16 GB DDR3 2133 MHz Crucial m4 256 GB SSD HIS Radeon HD 6950 2 GB (Has been lying in a bin for 5+ years, need to test) EVGA SuperNova NEX650G 1 TB Toshiba HDD Currently running Windows Vista (didn't have another Windows key lying around ?)d ual booted with Manjaro. Do you guys have any suggestions? Yours, lmaobadatmath
