Why do you want to update the bios tho ?

My Bios is old - 2019 ver 1201. I have issues with PCH fan (runs at 3500rpm, is noisy and I cannot control it) and bios update is long overdue. It may be that if the PCH issue is not solved, I might need a new board.

  2. My Asus X570-E board has an old bios - 1201. With previous advice on this board, I want to update to the latest one - version 5003. Are there risks in skipping in-between versions?

I plan to update via a FAT32 USB Stick and using them Bios USB port and Bios update button.

Am I likely to face any issues please? Will I be able to revert back to an earlier version is something goes wrong?

    Update the BIOS first.

You are using a REALLY old BIOS version.

The best method, to minimize the chance of corrupting the motherboard, is by using the tried-and-trued method -> putting the BIOS file onto a USB flash drive.

Updating it through internet or within Windows adds complexity, and more chances for things to go wrong.

    Some reminder tips:

    1. Download the latest BIOS file onto your PC / another PC / laptop.
    2. Unzip / extract the downloaded folder.
    3. Format a USB stick to FAT 32.
    4. Copy JUST the BIOS file (XXXX.CAP) onto the USB flash drive.

As someone already mentioned, your higher-end motherboard has the USB BIOS Flashback feature.

Even if you DO corrupt the BIOS, you can recover it.

Can I update to the latest 5001 Bios or do I go through intermittent versions?

As for the point 4 above, the Asus bios firmware page states Before running the USB flashback tool, please rename the BIOS file (SX570EG.CAP) using BIOSRenamer

Surely I cannot use the CAP file?

  4. Having got response  here to my Q-Fan not working issue, I may be forced to replace the Motherboard. Cannot afford to spend more than necessay at present, so can I just replace the motherboard with AM4 and DDR4 spec?

Any suggestions on the Motherboard would be welcome.

Your board does indeed have a bios flashback port and button (or at least the manual says it does), if you have another pc you can use to make a USB with the bios on, I'd do that instead of the internet option, if it says that bios is for your board and revision (if the latter applies) then it should work - otherwise just flashback.

You may prefer to do your fans in the bios, I'd recommend something like FanControl honestly, just makes things easier and if you ever need to clear your CMOS you don't need to redo everything. Otherwise, make sure that your fans are set to the right type (e.g. PWM vs DC) and plugged in to the right headers for PWM control.

Thanks. The PC has been working fine for a few years and have tried FanControl without any success. Will try to update the Bios as you suggest.

  6. My motherboard is Strix X570-E with an old bios version 1201  x64. The Q-Fan is suddenly stuck on high speed and BIOS Q-Fan does not respond. Tried Fan Control software and that does not work. The noise is driving me mad!

Also, tried to update the BIOS from within BIOS (using Internet option). It only gives me an option to update to BIOS version 3001 (Current X570-E version on Asus site is 5001). I have not yet updated. Could this be the most I can update to?

Lastly, not having tried BIOS update, if things go wrong, can I use the BIOS port at the c=back of PC to change to a lower version?

Any advice will be much appreciated.

  7. Looking at Samsung 970 Evo 1Tb M.2-2280 or Intel 660P for this board. It will hold windows 10. Would not hold photos and videos on it but run other programs off it. Price wise, is it better choice for intel 2Tb than 1Tb 970 pro (also for future proofing).

  8. Main use of the PC will be home video editing , browsing and general use. Will I be better of with DDR4 2 x 16Gb 2200Mhz or 2 x 8Gb 3000Mhz memory please? Will CL make a great deal of noticeable difference?

May overclock and use for games later on.

Based on Ryzen 2700X / Crosshair VII.

As mentioned by JonnyGuru, the RM750i only comes with a single EPS12V (CPU) power cable out of the box. As per above, it is possible to buy additional EPS12v cables separately if you choose, however as already mentioned by others the additional CPU power connector on your motherboard is optional. It's not required, even for a 2700x - unless you're doing some crazy LN2 overclocking or something. Plug in the 4+4 EPS12v power cable to the 8pin connector on the motherboard and leave the 4pin connector empty.

    Guys

I have been away (no access to internet). Apologies for being naive, do I just use the EATX12V_1 and ignore the EATX12V_2 connector?

Where are you shopping / located? Budget?

    What ram are you using?

Mostly Amazon in UK. Budget is around £1,500ish ($1,900). Not decided on memory but need 2 x 8Gb @ 32Mhz. Video card - considering

    Sapphire - Radeon RX 590 8 GB NITRO+.
  11. It is a few years since I last built a PC. Am puzzled with the PSU and Asus Crosshair VII Hero Motherboard connections to Corsair RM750i PSU. I can see where the 24pin connection goes from MB to PSU but not sure about the 8 pin / 4pin connections on the MB. Using Ryzen 2700X CPU, do I need the 8+4 connections and where does the other end go on the PSU please?
