Could be AMD's borked implementation of browser hardware acceleration. Try disable it.

The issue with my card didn't go past the BIOs splash screen.
@SimplyChunk says that it looks like a vram issue.
RMA the card! They will send you a replacement 🙂

DCCFan got a reaction from Solidnightmare in What's the best CPU that can be bought for AM3? Upgrading old emachines
Hey all! I'm reviving my old thread just to give an update for those who might be thinking of upgrading an Emachines like this one. I actually did upgrade it and it works SO well compared to what it used to be. Keep in mind I'm not gaming with this, it's mainly used for school and to watch videos (although my children do play Roblox on it without much problem).

Before the upgrades, it used to be a pain to just open more than 2 tabs on the browser or even load graphic intensive webpages. Watching HD video was pretty much out of the question too as it lacked a graphics card (only had the GeForce 6150 SE chipset for graphics).

So what did I buy? I got pretty much the first quad-core CPU I saw on eBay that I found at a discount, and in my case that was the Athlon II X4 635. It was only $10! I didn't want to spend too much because I knew there was some risk the CPU wouldn't work on this motherboard because it is a 95 TDP processor, but it worked and I'm happy as can be

Then I got a A-Tech 2x4GB DDR3 set for $20, and it worked! It's a very simple set without heatsinks, will post the exact model later in case anyone needs to know. This PC only had 4GB RAM so the difference was amazing. I have 7 tabs open right now plus the Folding@Home client and there are no hiccups. Many websites state that this mobo does not support over 4GB of RAM but I had seen a YouTuber add 16GB to his own SFF Emachines so that's why I decided to take a chance.

Then for the graphics card I got a second hand Dell R7 250 2GB, also for $20. And compared to the nforce graphics chip it had, it's like a beast, no really LMAO. From what I read this graphics card is comparable to using Intel HD Graphics for Skylake, so that was good enough for me.

So overall, I'm very happy with having spent just $50 and having a WAY more powerful office PC. If anyone needs help upgrading a similar older PC let me know.

    Have a great one!

The fact that you can take screenshots of it leads me to think it's actually a software issue, though possibly with a hardware error underlying it.

Usually a sign of failing VRAM, so hardware.

Not sure how unpopular this is going to be, as my daughter feels the same way, but I'm pretty sure most people don't:

Very cloudy weather (as when it's about to rain) is much more pleasant than blinding bright sunny days.

I get stressed out when the weather is too sunny, rainy weather I find relaxing.

I mean keyboards are just switches that are interpreted by the computer with a driver, they are all the same no matter what "feature" do they have, it's mostly market differantion to give you reasons to buy that particular product over others

so what I suggest you is to get the cheapest or the one that you personally like most and either spend money on the software or use any freeware

also note: the audiophile industry is laughed off by engineers, because it's pretty much a scam industry to a wide extent

I have a full feature board that operates stand-alone and has built in speakers.  I think it's great and I wouldn't want one that has to be a peripheral.  Downside, it's over $500CAD and doesn't have its own editing suite.  I waste even more money on the interface and cabling.

However, I've never tried a nektar or the software.   If you're willing to deal with the computer side of it all the time, it looks pretty neat and for $150 CAD it's worth a shot.

I haven't been looking for a board but I just checked the kijiji classifieds and OMG there are so many for sale, hilarious!

Check the classifieds in your area, you might find an even better product for $150

Personally i would go for the 5800x3D if you want to use your System for mainly gaming
you can see the LTT review here :

cause for a cheaper price and a cheaper motherboard you'll get similar performance in games with 12900KS (or as Linus says "Keep Spending" XD) which needs more expensive DDR5 and more expensive motherboards (not to mention the 800$ price tag of the CPU)

if you do other stuff besides gaming like video editing, the best choice in my opinion would be the 12600KF or 12700KF

Bios updates are commonly needed for AMD.  Less so for intel.  AMD needs to do bios updates because it’s the only thing they can affect after the chip is sold and stuff often isn’t tested on AMD systems so they use it to play whack-a-mole with bugs.  If both a Linux and a WINDOWS installs on an identical system are exhibiting the same problem the commonality is bios.

one would hope that updating the bios/eufi would also update the usb controllers but not guaranteed i spose...

yours happened with with windows, mine on the other hand happened with Linux so that could be a thing i spose to....

for some reason 3-4 of my computers find that windows is not the operating system for them
    - AM3+ to old not the right settings in bios
we thought this had blown up but found out, it is what only the graphics card so was rescued by me from son 1 and became my gaming rig
    - Ryzen 5 3400G boot loops, graphics issues
was cheap with 16 gig ram, went into lock down and 8yr old needed to do online learning
    - Ryzen 5 2600? ( might be 3600 but i dont think it is and its the daughters anyway ) refuses to install
    daughters birthday / christmas present

    - odd ball laptop which will run linux or chrome but not the original windows 10 that came on it....  wifi causes blue screens, if succesfull for 2 seconds on wifi updates crashes it
given to us because it didnt meet users needs

Hi, sorry to hear your PC keeps shutting down. I'm no expert but something similar happened to my son's PC and it ended up being the motherboard. If you already changed your PSU then the possibility of it being mobo related is high. You could update BIOS and see if that helps. Maybe someone else will have other suggestions. Good luck!

Also, you could take the motherboard out of the case and test it outside of it just to rule out some sort of short.

well funny thing is my sons computer had a 128gig kingston and my daughter had a 250gig kingston and both these drives started playing up ....

my sons one came with the computer and it was second hand ( at the time thought it was a steal for a ryzen 5 3400G 16gig ram for $450 ) so no idea how old it was, my daughters one however was only about 18 months when it started doing weird things (it was replaced with a seagate 500gig ssd )

call me paranoid if you like but this bad luck with the kingston drives has put me right off of them

even funnier was the kingston SD card that was getting hot enough to cook eggs 🤣😂

Sticky keys are classically caused by food particles or dust between the keys. A can of dust-off or a compressor if you have one around, may fix it.  Canned air is cheap if you don’t though.  They keys may or may not be removable.  Depends on the model.

booting without the over-long m.2 drive may solve the issue simply because laptops tend to be over engineered and it may actually be blocking airflow ignoring whether there might be other problems.  Dell has tons of experience making prebuilts and they’re known for cutting some bizarre corners.  Works better in laptops than desktops.  The general rule of thumb with Dells is “what you see is what you get”. Modding them often goes badly.  Dell makes office machines.  Stuff that doesn’t get upgraded.
