  1. The SSD should be about 3/4 empty, as I just cleaned out most media from the PC. I don't know what Trim is lol but googling it now. And I haven't used the WD tool. Will download it now, thanks for your help!
  2. This WD Green SATA SSD was new and I put it in an older PC that has am3 which I use mainly for Netflix and learning java. My kids have used it for Roblox as it can run simple games but it's very lightly used. I think the disk might even be under warranty, but I'm curious as to whether this report is real or some sort of glitch. Hope someone more knowledgeable can weigh in. Thanks!
  3. Thanks folks, I will RMA just in case What are these artifacts though, do they always mean hardware failure of some sort?
  4. Hi all. My son got a new GPU for his birthday, the 6700 non-XT. It's from a reputable tech seller but it was open box so I have a limited warranty, it's why I want to figure this out quickly. It basically seemed fine out of the box. I run this little test on the system https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/64728866 which said it's performing better than average. But a few days in my son calls me to show me that these colorful lines keep appearing during discord calls or when he scrolls pages rapidly. Confusingly, such lines haven't yet appeared during demanding games. Are these artifacts? Should we be concerned about the GPU's health?
  5. Thanks so much folks, will call customer support to see what they say. Better to be safe. It just happened again and messed up Anthony's face LoL
  6. A few days ago I noticed that several pictures she took were showing up corrupted (see attached pics) but I blamed the SD card for it. But today I was using the tablet to look at some facebook marketplace items and to shop and the artifacts started blurring graphical content. It even happened on this forum. Is there a software fix for this or is this hardware related? The warranty is still active thankfully.
  7. Sounds very good! Though I'm not too familiar with LGA 1700 so maybe someone else wil have some suggestions. I was going to say you could get more PSU wattage but then I looked the 3090 up and it seems it's enough. For cases, I really like the 5000d airflow
  8. Not sure how unpopular this is going to be, as my daughter feels the same way, but I'm pretty sure most people don't: Very cloudy weather (as when it's about to rain) is much more pleasant than blinding bright sunny days. I get stressed out when the weather is too sunny, rainy weather I find relaxing.
  9. Yeah this is kind of what I thought. It shouldn't make a huge difference whether the sound is coming from the keyboard itself or from the PC. I might just get the MIDI controller. It does come with software but you can buy extra sounds if needed. If I were to get one of these, would you recommend the SE or the GX model? The GX is slightly more expensive but it says online that its keys are somewhat weighed, it's supposed to emulate how a piano feels.
  10. Thanks! Will see if I can find a regular keyboard for around the same price. That said, the Nektar MIDI one comes up to 105 USD for me, which is a pretty great deal. I think it's because of Black Friday though I am in South America, seems they're trying to do Black Friday here now LoL I'm just worried about the whole software deal because I took a look at these "DAWs" and they look SO user unfriendly, like dang My son does have a teacher though so I was hoping he could help with that. I've seen some 81 key pianos, will see if there's anything like that near me before deciding. My son currently uses 61 keys and his keyboard has no support for a pedal and his teacher asked if we could try and get him on one that has pedal support. This MIDI one being 105 USD in my country is prettty tempting but the softwares look quite complex and pricey. I was trying to figure out whether there are some free options that he could use while we learn more about these DAWs. If I do buy this one, would it be a good idea to try a free one? Like this one KONTAKT 7 PLAYER: The free app for KONTAKT instruments (native-instruments.com)
  11. So I'm looking to buy a new keyboard for my son who has been studying music for 2 years but he is still young. I was told it would be great if it has at least 5 octaves, is sensitive and accepts a pedal. I just found one that covers all of these features but it is a MIDI controller so it does require a software suit, from what I could gather (I'm not a musician). Is it a bad idea to get a MIDI keyboard instead of a full featured one? Or is it a good idea considering you can download the sounds and effects you want? This is the keyboard I'm considering (it's on sale by me): https://nektartech.com/se49-se61-midi-controller-keyboard/ What software do you recommend for this? Apparently it comes with: BITWIG 8-TRACK INCLUDED You can start producing, performing, and designing sounds like a pro from day one with the included Bitwig 8-Track DAW. It includes over 50 software instruments and effects for use on up to 8 audio or MIDI project tracks, and you can use any 3rd party VST plug-ins you might own, too. The ‘Bitwig Essentials Package’ comes as part of this package as well, featuring a highly versatile handpicked selection of loops, clips and samples, to make it even easier to get you started. With Nektar DAW Integration you can control track selection and transport controls directly from the SE MIDI Controller, making this a fantastic combination. If you are just starting out, you will find it’s the perfect way to take your first steps in the world of digital music creation. And if you’re already familiar with using computer software, you’ll be amazed at what this combination has to offer!
  12. Yeah I'll probably donate it next year as it's still good for office and school work. For gaming, it's getting a bit slow. It helps I am older so I play stuff from the mid 2000's a lot. Have not played borderlands yet but it looks good. Last game I played was Sniper Ghost warrior 3 on my son's PC tho. I just realized your specs areon your signature, your PC must be pretty fast compared to mine though. I only have 8 gigs of ram haha. But it's enough for oldies and watching movies. Yeah sims must be tough to run. When I want to play something more intensive I go on my kids' PC's. Btw if you guys/gals want to play sometime I have my steam handle on my profile
  13. Hey I concur with the other posters. I'd get the 3d if I were you. Sounds like a great combo with the 6900xt. Then again if the 5900x is on sale, it's not a bad choice for a system like yours, from the reviews I saw it isn't much slower than the 3d on gaming and it is somewhat faster on some programs, though I'm not sure you'll use them. You also get to save a bit on memory as someone said, as it uses ddr4. Look for a mobo from tier A or better. If you need to cut corners I'd get a decent but cheap case like the Fara R1 and cheap fans (I got Raijintek Iris 12 and am pretty happy with them, my daughter loves the little ARGB remote lol). You can always give the PC a makeover later on if you want a better case/fans.
  14. Hey folks! seems it got corrected by just clearing CMOS. Putting this out there in case someone else has the same issue. Next step I would have probably updated BIOS so if it starts acting up again I might go that route. It's possible this was some kind of bug. Cretsiah, are you still running AM3? My personal rug has the Athlon II x4 People were telling me to just throw it away but I'm pretty happy with its performance after giving it some more RAM and a discrete GPU (it used to run on board graphics). It was one of those eMachines prebuilts with only 4 gigs of ram and a dual core CPU. Could barely load most webpages until it got the upgrades. Now it can run most PC games from up until 2015 or so which for me is enough LoL
