  1. Okay seems like I'm on the right track then! Really appreciate your help!
  2. I didn't know that you could convert HDMI signal to ethernet so can I ask you a couple of questions to help me visualize this? Do you think you could provide a link to some products? I seem to be finding extenders but none of them support 48gbps/4k120hz What would the actual setup look like? Would it be something like: Computer > HDMI wired to converter > converter ethernet run to wall plate > wall plate connected to converter > converter connected to room's monitor?
  3. My wife and I are planning on putting our PC's in the basement and running cables to 4 different rooms on the main floor similar to how Linus did in his video below (video is already timestamped). Here is what I am wishfully thinking: Each room will have a wall plate with 2 HDMI 2.1 ports and 2 USB-C ports for pass-through connection ( I hope I'm using that term right). Our 2 computers will run HDMI and USB-C cables to the ports in each room. As needed, each room will have a USB-C Hub and HDMI splitter to connect peripherals. Here are some challenges that I am trying to solve for: Fiber optic is pretty expensive, so having 4 cables running to each room doesn't seem like I am optimizing this very well. USB-C Fiber Optic doesn't seem to be very popular so please school me on how this should properly be done if you can! Software issues with the sheer amount of HDMI cables that we could have. Switching from the family room TV to the bedroom TV seems simple enough because the displays could just be duplicated. However, shifting from the family room TV to the office with 3 monitors seems harder since the displays need to be extended, but only when I'm using that room to avoid losing my mouse on displays located in a completely different room. Maintainance. If USB/HDMI protocols drastically change in the future, I don't want to have to hire an electrician to replace a cable (example: HDMI 2.1 > HDMI 3.1 eventually). A way around this would maybe to use a conduit & a recessed box instead of a plate but gravity might make that difficult and make fishing harder? Turning the computer on and off without having to travel to the basement. I imagine there's some sort of tech + app combination for this. I would like to hear from the community on how they have accomplished a similar use case themselves. Please let me know if you have any questions! As you can probably tell, I haven't done this before!
  4. Thanks guys, I just wanted to make sure that my system can run a 2080TI. From what I've researched and fasauceome's feedback, it seems like I'm good to go!
  5. So glad to hear! Do you think I'm going to face any bottle necking issues at all? I'm also currently seeing if I can vertical mount it into my case, but it doesn't seem likely lol
  6. Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out whether my computer can support a 2080TI. I was going to build a new rig, but it comes out close to 3000 CAD for what I want. So instead, I'm thinking about just buying a Gigabyte Aorus Extreme 2080TI to run in my current pc. I would like to get some opinions on if I need a bigger power supply, a better processor, etc. to run on a 4k TV at 60hz, and also at 1440 at 120hz. Here are the specs of my current build, all I would change is the graphics card. 7. Yeah you're not wrong, but I'm used to it by now and I'd rather a better computer than a monitor + office chair. I can't afford everything in one go, and the new PC is the priority right now. Also, I'm going to look into the 3rd gen ryzen. I wanted to have this build finished by may, so I was going to start buying parts pretty soon (next week or so). I didn't make that clear, sorry!
  8. I really can't tell you how much I appreciate your help. Yes, my tv is 1080p and it says "50/60Hz". I should be more than fine with the RTX 2060 right? I've also looked into SLI, and I don't think I'll be doing that any time soon. If I could get a different board with RGB instead, that would be awesome. I: haven't found much luck in finding that with a similar price point, but maybe you know what to look for better than I. I picked up the PSU and the motherboard today, but I might return the MOBO if I find something better (sale ends tomorrow and I can always return in the next two weeks).
  9. Thanks so much for getting back to me! I didn't know about the difference of the SSD's. I'll look into that, as well as SLI and the PSU stuff (my least knowledgable area). I apologize that I didn't mention it, but I would love RGB, especially on the case. This is why I chose the h500. When it comes to gaming, I don't expect to have next gen graphics on ultra, but I would like to play them at 60 fps with medium-high settings. I'm hoping this build will accomplish that.
  10. Hi Guys, New Linus fan over here, and I'm just learning so much about computers! I'm going to build a PC in a couple of months, and I just want to make sure that I'm doing the right thing with my money and I'm not causing any problems. I would really appreciate your help in this! My budget is around $1200, but it can go up and down depending on if it's worth it. I live in Canada, so everything is in CAD. I want to use the system for gaming. The games range from League of Legends to games like cyberpunk 2077 (AAA, high graphics, super excited for this one). I don't need peripherals, and I'm planning on using my TV as a monitor. I am upgrading because I want a PC that can handle the latest games as well as infrequent and light video editing. I don't know anything about overclocking so I am leaving that out as a concern (but as I learn more I would like to explore it). I know my current build isn't great for temperature with the stock CPU cooler (so I've heard, anyway.) I looked at the Build Guide Recommendations Thread and chose the $1100 CAD guide as a starting point. I didn't like the case, so I upgraded it. I also changed the MOBO to include WIFI and Bluetooth. Here's the list from PC Partpicker: CPU AMD - Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor $224.00 $224.00 Canada Computers Buy Motherboard MSI - B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC ATX AM4 Motherboard $184.99 $184.99 Memory Express Buy Memory G.Skill - Aegis 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory $58.99 $58.99 Newegg Canada Buy G.Skill - Aegis 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory $58.99 $58.99 Newegg Canada Buy Storage Crucial - MX500 500 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive $87.99 $87.99 Mike's Computer Shop Buy Video Card Zotac - GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB GAMING AMP Video Card $469.99 $469.99 Mike's Computer Shop Buy Case Cooler Master - MasterCase H500 ATX Mid Tower Case $120.10 $120.10 Vuugo Buy Power Supply Cooler Master - MasterWatt 550 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply $69.99 $69.99 Memory Express Buy Total: $1275.04 Thanks so much for all your help. I'm taking a giant leap of faith on the PCpartpicker BB Markup, so I hope everything looks alright! If not, I will go through and make it not disgusting to look at. Edit: it looked disgusting. Any help on how to format it would be so appreciated! Apologize for my first time posting errors. Cheers, erthwormsam
