it is light so it does tend to run faster but the issue is game compatibility if you want to play modern and new games like apex legends don't expect to or any other new games
its fine if the games you play are native to linux but trying to game on linux raises the difficulty a lot unless you just use steam proton

    2 productivity tasks
if by editing you mean video editing you'll have to learn kaiden live and you can use adobe on it since there's no linux adobe

    3. linux shines in daily use as long as by daily use you mean web browsing it works on most websites perfectly fine though you can have some drm or flash issues but for stuff like youtube and general surfing its great and light

its safer than windows as long as you don't do anything that makes it less secure like having a ssh with a password that has no firewall between you and the internet

it is better for privacy depending on the distro its different levels of better but most of them you can disable telemetry and auto updates.

id recomend not making your own linux distro if your interested take a look at http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/ but id recommend you get used to linux first on something like mint ubuntu or elementary os. then if you want you can make a vm and test out arch and then once your comfortable with then you can try gentoo. gentoo your essentially building the kernel and the os configuring al all the partitions manually and picking system components the issue is its a really deep learning curve i've lost literal months of time just working on my gentoo install. but yeah distros are better since they handle the repos and the updates and security patches

either way good luck with linux

Gaming has improved a ton. Stuff like manerjo exists. Also depending on the flavor you don't ever have to use the terminal

Don Vielenio got a reaction from 7850OC in best minimum size for a Linux partition ?
I'm using 10GB for a virtual machine without X-server, for my desktop system I'm using 20-30GB for root-partition, texlive is using much to much space, additional 5GB for /tmp and 40-60 for home directory on a separated partition. I'd recommending at least 100GB in total, but if you're not having much data, 60GB or even 40GB could be enough for you.

I'd also suggest NFS and openssh, ssh for remote administration of the NAS and for SFTP

So many possibilities to loose faith in humanity...

    - User wrote an email, having problems with windows, nothing more, literally. First, it can't be a problem with Windows, users system is Linux based. What it could be:
      - Printer has no paper
      - Monitor is switched off
      - Does not remember password
      - Caps Lock is active
      - User does not remember how to do their job and needs someone to stand next to them to nod constantly
    - Just taking network cable out of office computer and wondering why their notebook does not get network... bad MAC filtering
    - Users not reading mails and write all their stuff onto system volume instead of dedicated much larger volume for long term storage
    - During maintenance of IMAP server user wrote mail it's unaccessable
    - EVERY NEW USER tries to install steam
    - User asking for packages already installed but where to lazy to check it themselves
    - User bought software A for doing stuff with videos, after buying realizing A needed videos in different codex than their camera recorded, so they demanded us to convert all their videos in a week... Do not know the word please and thanks...
    - User is unable to use a windows notebook, demands a macBook

Just a few, I'm not remembering everything, would make me to depressed.

of course you don't, as long as you've got Win 10 Pro so it allows file sharing etc then you're good to go. Setup the machine, share the drive and map it on any other computers you want to access it from.

FreeNAS etc use far less system resources etc and will run on a potato but if the computer is capable of running Win 10 as normal then it's fine as a NAS

    Hi there Linus,
I'm a sub, a linux gamer and I'm from /r/linux_gaming. I really enjoyed your linux videos with Wendell and your first Proton video. I also noticed that there are always heated discussions in the comment section because of things that people said they could have been researched better. I'm talking about, for example, the fact that you picked an older nVidia driver version, or that the video didn't show some workaround for some proton games, or the fact that you suggested to download some stuff from the web instead of using the repo, etc...
I understand that Linux is a very alien world when you first approach it and that passionate Linux users are quick to criticize things that are not correct. So here's my point: I think I can speak for everyone when I say that for your next Proton video "We are happy to help".

Are you unsure about some aspects of Proton? Feel free to ask!
Proton workarounds are a pain in the ass? Ask away!
You don't know what's better between developer drivers and regular drivers? Ask us!
Do you want to know our general experience with Proton? Oh boy, we have a lot to talk about.
WTF even is vulkan_icd_loader? Seriously, we are here.

I'm not saying that we should review the script, because I think that it would go too far, but we can certainly have a discussion, and certainly we are happy to help.

Non techie slangs I heard in the last little while:

    "The Computer is dumb"
"Can I borrow your USB (USB C) Cable to plug in my iPhone ?"
"Your OP5t is a shit phone" says an iPhone user.
"The Internet is based on weather clouds", they say that because they don't know the difference between actual weather clouds and data clouds.
"Shall I get Pen and Paper for you to write down some notes ?", I'm literally holding my phone in my hand so I open my notes App and hold the phone up into his face.
"When people aspecially my parents tell me what time it is", I wear a Garmin fenix 5x Smartwatch with an Always on Display...

    Ooo... let's see now...

    - The user who reported that the cyan toner leaked but upon inspection the printer was covered in yellow... (less technical and more basic color recognition).
    - Having to explain to a user, "no ma'am, we can't take a bad review off of Facebook. Because we don't own Facebook."
    - The older computer users that will not accept that they made a mistake but that "the computers are out to get them" and "they never had this trouble before."
    - "You will not leave my office until you make Outlook look and behave like Groupwise."
    - "The students are playing violent first-person shooters in the lab. Please block the entire .io domain."
    - "16:9 is the same as 4:3. The projector is clearly broken." (we have this one posted on the wall at work)
    - "I put 32 GB of RAM in my machine but it's still slow!" "Sir, you're still using Win 7 32-bit..." "Does that matter?"
    - ANYTHING REGARDING GOOGLE CLOUD PRINT
    - "This batch file I wrote to automate this task isn't working." "Sorry to hear that, we don't support users' random batch files" <looks at files in the ticket> "How the heck do you write object-oriented batch files???"

agreed, it's ok to use as a central store for media but anything more you can get better. I think if you already have a Pi and USB drive it's fun to do but if you are starting from scratch there are better options.

I had with a pi, but the performance was unexceptable.
A raspberry Pi does not have gigabit ethernet and only USB 2.0, if you have a Pi 3, use WIFI, cause WIFI is in opposite to the wired interface not using USB to communicate with CPU, so you get slightly higher speed. But advanced stuff as RAID, do not do with a raspi, you'll regret it!
