Aaralli reacted to Eviljuche in Russian M39 lens mount adapter help?
Hi! This is an old thread, but I hope you'll get notified about my response.

Soviet M39 is not compatible with a regular Leica's M39 because of the 2 key factors - slightly different mount grooves and a completely different rangefinder control lever. Some adapters might do the trick, but the results might be kinda off as well, usually with infinity focus being impossible.

Honestly, I can't ever buy Intel chips or boards. I've had this grudge against Intel for over a decade now and I'm only 21 years old (very long story best saved for another day). I'll likely be stuck with AMD processors forever, although I do build Intel systems for other people or use old Intel chips when I get them for free.

On another PC I use regularly I have a Ryzen 9 3950X with 4x8gb of Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3600 MT/s CL18, and that's the fastest I've ever owned. If not the absolute top speed, what speed should I realistically be looking for?

I'm not interested in "desyncing" the infinity fabric. I'd never heard of it running at 1900mhz on 5000 series CPUs though. I guess I just assumed that they ran at the same speed as 3000 series.

I did this for a project at a British college (not uni), and the way I did this was with a binary code editor called HxD, and I just edited the code to get different images; however, this can affect the image entirely so you may not be able to open the image up again so always make another copy and work on that instead.
The blue overlay is from changing the bit that contains the RBG infomration, which results in this, but you can get around this by getting lucky and experimenting

I looked it up and there was a single article about mixing these things. It specified that you need to put them in this order: camera body, two 2x teleconverters, extension tube, then they did their normal lens.

See, I completely understand that feeling. I had a 2600X and RX 580 that I gifted to a friend of mine in need who had no computer at all, and I actually started to use my 3950 and 2070S for photo and video editing. Those programs run blazing fast and without them I would feel like my workflow is less efficient. The duality of man, indeed.

I was given a Ryzen 9 3950X and RTX 2070 Super by a friend who upgraded to a Ryzen 9 5950X and RTX 3090... When it comes time to upgrade my own PC, which could be years from now, I'll never be able to justify spending that much on parts that are just as powerful with the generational improvements. I like having 16 CPU cores, but in five years I may have to buy a 6 core or 8 core... Anyone else ever experience this "spoiled" feeling?

Thank you! I am usually very careful about reading manuals and documentation regarding my devices and tech, but I guess I totally missed this one! I held the reset hole for about a minute and turned it on and it booted right into windows! What a wonderful world we live in where random people on the internet can help each other.

Had a Windows 95 machine way back in the before-times that suffered some kind of problem whereby the motherboard overheated to the point of melting.

Also had a printer that was possessed. You know how inkjets make all that noise before they actually print something? This thing was doing that for hours before I finally pulled the plug from the wall... and it kept going for another 5 minutes.

On my first build, I used the wrong screws for the mobo (I think they ended up being the SATA screws). Anyways, not knowing any better, I tightened them real good. When I realized my mistake I took them out, but one of them took the standoff with it. There I am as a brand new builder trying to balance the mobo on its edge with pliers in one hand and screwdriver in the other, trying to pry the standoff away from the screw, sweating bullets the whole time.

I learned quickly, though, stop and figure out exactly what you're doing, what screws you need, etc. first, before you install anything.

But, just to show experience matters for nothing, I was doing a late night build, and the case I was working in was a considerable kind of pain the arse, so the build was much more prolonged and tiring than normal. I finally get everything done and turn it on and nothing. No lights, no nothing. I check the RAM is seated. I check the GPU is seated. I remove the cooler and make sure the CPU is installed correctly. I try other things for longer than I care to admit, until suddenly a horrifying realization creeps through the fog of my mind: I forgot to flip the PSU switch...

Aaralli reacted to tkitch in How do you know what power cable to buy?
    Closer to an ELI5 answer:
Power bricks are rated for how many Volts they output, and how many Amps they *can* produce, at max.

So, a 12V Power brick always produces 12 Volts.

But if that brick is rated for 5 Amps?  It will only produce 5 Amps if the device is asking for that much power.  If it's asking for 2 Amps, it only outputs 2 amps.

Your device that is 'rated for 2A' is probably only using ~1 Amp most of the time, because 2A is the max it'll use.

It's kinda like a Faucet in your sink.  It has a maximum flow rate, but most of the time you don't turn it up all the way.  Your device using the power is controlling how much juice it wants coming from the brick.

    Hey there,
    I have the Netgear Nighthawk AX6 6-Stream AX4300 WiFi 6 Router.
Is it possible to connect a Nighthawk Mesh Satellite to it in order to extend my network in the same way a mesh network behaves?
Or is the AX4300 not designed to function as a mesh base station in the first place?  I don't want to simply use a range extender since it doesn't offer the same benefits of a mesh node.

    Thanks!

Aaralli reacted to toiletfyshy in Can I use fan splitters on the Commander Pro?
I run 6 SP120 RGB Fans (.3A each) in my PC and a Corsair Hydro X XD5 pump/res (2.5A). My pump is connected to port 6 on my commander pro leaving me 5 ports left for my 6 fans. So I connected 2 fans to a 4 pin Y splitter and plugged it to port 5 and the rest of the fans on 1-4. Port 5 is just died today. None of my fans will work on port 5 but all fans will work on ports 1-4. There are many cases where people's fan ports die from using a splitter while under the 1A rating. Seems like the best thing to do is to have multiple Commander Pros if you need more fan ports since 1 port will die if you use a 2 way fan splitter.

Note with the pump and all 6 fans, my total is 4.3A. So I'm within range of max rating.

Don't worry I totally agree, if you want those parts and have the $$$ go for it. Just saying there may be better 'budget' options. But I love my Crosshair VII Hero and my Corsair products lol. Unnecessary, yes slightly, worth it in my opinion, 100%.

I've had good luck with my 3200MHz Corsair RGB Pro kit, I've manually OC'd it to 3466Mhz, 1.3500V, and tightened up the timings.

EDIT: I also agree with the fact that iCUE is the best/most comprehensive piece of software for RGB, that said I have had issue with it. But overall when it is functioning correct, it is the best piece of RGB software I have used by a large margin.

I mean a little overkill on the motherboard and might want to check the price of of Gskills 2x16GB 3600MHz CL16 RAM but if you have the money all those parts are good. The 860 evos are really good in terms of $/GB right now so a good buy there.

RAM, storage (usually an SSD these days), and the Wifi card are commonly upgradable... More expensive laptops sometimes have everything interchangable, but that's quite rare.
