  1. Thanks all. I will be honest I ended up completely shelving all my plans when I found a listing that I am not positive is not fake on amazon for a 7950x at about the same price as 13700k. Due to that I am holding out to see if that gets delivered and then will go from there.
  2. Budget (including currency): The build is currently listed at $6000 AUD, happy to go up a little but would prefer not to go up much. Country: Australia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Honestly overkill for what I need but I am good with that. Other details: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/GrvqyK Powersupply https://www.pccasegear.com/products/48181/seasonic-prime-px-1300-platinum-1300w-power-supply The power supply is marked as speculative for A tier on the cultists PSU tier list. My main worries are the following: -Will the motherboard, gpu and power supply fit in the selected case? Part picker says it will, I also tried to look at the websites myself, but being honest I have trouble with understanding stated dimensions for what is length or width or whatever to know what values are the ones I need. Or is a different case better? I will be honest I chose this case as it's up the top on Gamer's Nexus cooling list. -Is that ram a good choice? I know it will be overkill, I tried to look at what timings are important and what die type, but they all seemed to talk about 32gig rather than 64gig. My existing system has 32gig of ddr4 and have it close to maxed all the time, I am assuming that means it is a good idea to go to 64gig. I am heading to bed for around 7 or 8 hours, before I work overnight again. Thanks for any help.
  3. I will also admit for things like case I am waiting a few days as it is about to be black friday/cyber monday sales
  4. Thanks for the replies, sorry for slow reply I was asleep. As I typed the original post I was starting to think about AMD being more futureproof, so thanks for feeling that point too. I would definitely go an AIO due to the apparent increased heat output from the new gen of CPU's. Also thanks @GeorgeMKanefor making a part picker list I really appreciate it. Big jump up in power supply, is that just for how highly rated it is? I am also right in saying that with AMD's memory controller you only go 5600mhz ram as it doesn't handle faster? Thanks again
  5. Budget (including currency): $7,500 AUD Country: Australia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: - Honestly I am building an overkill PC for my needs by like 3000%. Games: - Mainly play WoW, League of legends and similar games to that. - I also multitask like crazy running 2x Nox android emulators, Idle champions (Epic games), youtube/netflix/disney plus, discord, plus general websites (I am a tab monster). - I also work from home so having all this plus VMware horizons running. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Part picker list: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/g3jz9r What I need/want: - Wifi either on motherboard or by add in card (Mostly will be plugged via ethernet) - I have 3 screens - main screen for gaming 160hz 1440p, then 2 60hz 1080p screens (Likely to swap to a super wide curved screen to replace all 3 later on) - A motherboard with some overclocking headroom - I tend to build computers that are more that what I need and overclock them as they get older to make them last longer. Upgrading from: - Intel i7 6700k, 2070 super (was a 1080ti that blew up and only had money for a 2070 super when that happened), 32 gig ddr4-3200 - all with a moderate stable overclock. Current peripherals: - Corsair K68 keyboard (Dust and hair resistant keycaps due to 2 long hair German Shepherds and a long hair cat) - Corsair Scimitar Pro mouse (Use side buttons for WoW) - Creative T40 Gigaworks series ii 2.0 Speakers - don't have room to do anything special at the moment. My skill level: - I have built 4 computers (all intel), however last was like 5 years ago, so will be using YouTube to make sure I don't make any oppsies. I have watched plenty of build videos before and have also replaced the GPU and Ram in my current PC. - Never done custom water cooling. - Have done medium skill level overclocking and benchmarking - Have no issues with software, running stripped down win 10 pro via msmg toolkit, and dual boot of windows. Build on PC part picker AUS - CPU: Intel 13900k - Cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420 - Motherboard: Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite ATX - Ram: G.Skill Trident Z5 2x32GB DDR5-6000 CL30 - Storage: Samsung 980 pro 2tb (Already have), 2x 2tb Samsung 870 evo in raid - GPU: Gigabyte Gaming OC GeForce RTX 4090 - Case: Fractal Meshify 2 XL (Would also go the smaller size if the GPU fits - apparently width is the real issue with the stupid cable sticking out) - Power supply: Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 TT Premium 1200W 80+ Gold - ATX 3.0 - Extra fans: Will depend on the case I go with (none listed on part picker) My main concerns: - If any parts aren't great could you suggest better ones that are on PC part picker as available please. - Any better suggestions for motherboard, power supply and graphics card? - I was told it is better to run 2 ram sticks rather that 4 for XMP, is that still the case? - Would also be open to Zen 4 7950x if there is a good argument why that is a better choice. - Again yes I know it is way overkill a setup for what I need. Thanks for reading my 1,000 word essay, and thanks for any assistance.
  6. Hi All, I am about to get a work laptop and want to be able to use my 3 computer screens that I currently use on my PC with it. So I was wondering if there is a hdmi switch or something similar that would allow me to switch my monitors to be either through my pc or through the laptop and also allow me to use the 3 monitors with the laptop (it only has one HDMI port). 2 monitors are 60hz 1080p (matching monitors) and the 3rd is 1440p 165hz, the matching monitors are turned sideways, with the 1440p monitor in the center. I am from Australia so as usual I will need to find something sold here, but some ideas on if anything does exist would be great thanks. Thanks for any help as usual.
  7. Thanks for the reply. I don't think unfortunately that they would let me use a website for it as they are very privacy focused. I get that this project is not great as a starter thing, but also at the same time I don't expect to make it in 2 seconds either. I expect at least months of fiddling around to even get something basic.
  8. Hi All! I have so much trust in the people on this forum that this is honestly my first port of call for asking/investigating this. I want to start learning how to make programs (for fun more than anything) and I have something I want to make for myself but that I can give to workmates to use as well. It to me sounds like it would be a basic first thing to make. I want to describe what it is if anyone could then give me suggestions on what they think the best coding language would be to build it in please. I intend to then go and try and learn how to make it and see where the rabbit hole goes lol. So basically, in one of my roles I help to support telephone crisis supporters when they are on imminent risk calls, as well as offering debriefs and wellbeing checks. On really busy nights sometimes we are juggling more than one call. So as a way of making this easier there are certain sentences we keep in a word document that we just copy and paste into the chat box. For example a "Hello" kind of message, then a "I am listening now" kind of message (obviously they are more complex than just a couple of words). Our chat system uses a color coding triage with 4 different colors to let us know what the importance of each chat is. So my idea is to make a simple program that basically replaces the use of the word document. The top would have the 4 color code options, you select one and it stays selected until you choose another. Then underneath that would be boxes with simple things on it like "Greeting", "Listening", "Risk" and so on. So having a color selected then pressing one of these buttons would determine the version of that message you are copying. So say for "Greeting" if you have someone reaching out as they are starting their shift your greeting would be different to if you are "Greeting" someone who needs support on an imminent call. Settings wise: I would like it that the word displayed on the box on the main page is something that can be customized in settings. I would also like it that each person can set their own desired messages to be copied when the button is pressed. Maybe a stretch goal would be to have multiple sentences per button so that we are not always just using the same "Greeting" each time. I hope this makes sense. I was going to go all microsoft paint to do a sketch but apparently I don't have paint installed lol. But yeah, I am not looking for someone to make this for me, just for a point in the right direction on where to start please - i.e., what coding language to use, any suggestions on what it is best to compile it in, as well as any resources that would be good for a noob like me. I will say my only coding experience is from high school (I was 17y.o.) where I used some beginners coding thing to make a turtle create a blackjack game for me lol. Thanks for any help sorry for being slack and starting here, but as I said I trust the LTT forums to send me in the right direction.
  9. Thanks, not sure if it is available here but will have a look.
  10. Thank you so much for that. I knew there would be something I was missing looking at it all.
  11. Hi All, I am looking to buy a powerline network adapter as I cannot currently run an Ethernet cable from my router to my computer. The question I have is how powerful an adapter should I actually look at getting? I currently have 50Mbps download internet (hopefully going up to 100Mbps when the lines are upgraded for my area). I have been looking at adapters and have seen they go all the way up to 2000Mbps units, but it seems like there is not point in that seeing as my connection reaches no where near that speed. For instance there is this unit at officeworks which is 500Mbps https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/tp-link-av600-nano-powerline-adaptor-starter-kit-tl-pa411kit-tptlpa411#specifications Or this one that is 2000Mbps https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/tp-link-av2000-gigabit-passthrough-powerline-kit-tptlpa9020 (Yes I am from Australia) Could someone correct me if this is wrong please? The reason I am looking at a powerline ethernet adapter is because I am currently working from home using a virtual machine and it lags anytime I need to save anything or move any browser windows around. I also game. So any improvement would be good and now is a good time to claim it on tax haha. Thanks.
  12. Hi All, I have an outlook email address that I have setup a lot of things on, many that can't be transferred to a new email address. However, I get a lot of spam on the email address, much that doesn't get filtered. I saw an option on the desktop app to import a block list, but googling I have not found any block lists that I can download to import. So I am wondering if anyone knows a place to get a block list from so I can try and reduce the "Make your pen15 bigger style messages that I keep getting despite all the block rules and sweep rules I currently have in place. Thanks.
  13. For Android (yes these are my personal preferences): *Otter (Playstore) - transcription app that I use for transcribing my university lectures. Best free time period I have found and pretty good accuracy. Apparently has a chrome extension that does the same on your PC but I haven't tried that. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aisense.otter&hl=en_US&gl=US Adobe Scan (playstore) - best app I have found so far for scanning documents with your camera (I have tried a heap). *F-Droid (Website)/Aurora Droid (F-Droid) - An app store for open source applications, a lot of privacy focus. https://f-droid.org/ *Bromite (F-Droid/github)- good privacy based internet browser https://github.com/bromite/bromite *FairEmail (Github/playstore)- Open source email application that is privacy focused. https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail/releases *YouTube Vanced (Website) - YouTube and YouTube music app with better features such as picture in picture, ad block, has SponsorBlock built in. https://vancedapp.com/ *Infinity (F-Droid) - alternative Reddit viewer, apparently much better for privacy. *FreeOTP+ (F-Droid) - open source 2 factor authentication/one time password (whatever you want to call it). *Aurora store (F-Droid) - Basically the google play store but with better privacy. Can login anonymously instead or with google account. *Insular (F-Droid)- enables the work profile on android. Apps in the work profile cannot access your private data and apps in your normal profile. (I use this as I worry that the COVID QR app is doing dodgy things). *SafeDot (F-Droid)- puts a dot in the top corner (can also vibrate if set) telling you when your camera. microphone, or location services are being accessed and keeps a log of what is accessing them. It is scary how often the phone accesses these without you expecting it. *Scrambled Exif (F-Droid) - removes meta data from images before uploading them or sharing them. The internet is a scary place without you openly putting photos on the internet with meta data showing your location. Additionally, I always use a VPN (personally I use Nord, but may change after my current 3 year sub is up) and a password manager. I use Dashlane for password management but will look to move to an open source one when I finally get effort.
  14. Nvidia Broadcast/RTX voice - https://www.nvidia.com/en-au/geforce/broadcasting/broadcast-app/ Noise + echo cancelling software plus camera background blur. This has been essential with working from home. It is summer here in Australia and I am working from home. Having this program lets me keep my portable air conditioner turned on and stops people hearing my cat meowing at me. It's been a lifesaver.
