  1. Sounds like 45-60fps with RT on the 7700S and a solid 60fps on the 7800S is likely from what research I've been doing. Very reasonable.
  2. I want a 14 inch Zephyrus though. Not interested in a desktop.
  3. Been waiting for the 2023 version of the Asus Zephyrus G14. I'm expecting it to come with a 7700S/7800S. Do you think these cards will be serviceable in ray-tracing? The 6800S is on sale right now and seems to hit around 30 fps with RT turned on in most games. Seems like RDNA3 is more competitive in Ray tracing abilities. Best guesses appreciated.
  4. The eGPU I'm considering is about $250 and comes with a 550 W Power Supply as well as a Thunderbolt cable. I don't think I could realisticly get an equal CPU, 16gb of RAM, a case, a power supply, a motherboard, and 1.5TB worth of NVMe. I do still think going with the eGPU is a good call. It also means I can sell my 3000 series card when next gen cards come and still have a decent 1660 Ti to play off of inside my laptop while I'm waiting. Nobody has really answered my question yet . One person told me it was a good idea and one person told me it wasn't, but nobody has told me if I should go for the 3070 or 3080.
  5. Hi all, I own an Aero 15 with a Thunderbolt 3 port on it. I'm looking at getting a 3000 series card sometime later down the line in an external GPU enclosure, and wondering how much sense it really makes. There's been a lot of discussion regarding the gen 3 vs gen 4 PCIe and the amount of performance you actually get. From what I understand, gen 3 graphics cards saw about a 10% drop in performance over thunderbolt because of the interface being 4x instead of 16x. I would like to do 1440p (4k in some games) 60fps with ray tracing turned on. In a desktop I believe the 3070 would do it, but I'm wondering if the reduced performance over PCIe means I need a 3080. Obviously 3090 is overkill but I figured I'd throw it into the title if anyone else is curious for themselves. Thanks all!
  6. My setup is the exact same as the 5.1 you have pictured, except my sub is almost directly below the right front sattelite. Otherwise the spacing is pretty much the same.
  7. Arrived in the mail earlier this week and got to set it up today. I won't be moving into my new place until the end of next month, so the setup isn't perfect but still leagues better than my TV. The sound is incredible across the board. Really impressed that it can do lots of different music genres but also do solid with video games. Waiting on a digital optical cable that's arriving tomorrow to test it with my TV. Hoping that will sound good as I watch Alien Covenant in the evening. Didn't realize this. According to the labels on the sub and the instructions, the two additional sattelites are labeled as rear. Is there some sort of setup I'll need to do with my TV to get that sound from behind? I'm especially excited to see how it will work on PS5 and PC games, potentially being able to hear enemies from behind. Edit: one other thing I'd like to try adding is a Bluetooth receiver to stream my phone music to the subs. Normally I'm not a fan of Bluetooth Earbuds because of the reduced quality. Do you think the sound would still be good as long as all the sattelites and sub are connected, just the source is Bluetooth? Or should I stick with an aux cord exclusively?
  8. Price dropped to $250 over the weekend on Amazon. That's a steal I didn't want to pass up, so I pulled the trigger. Hope it works out well!
  9. Will I have everything I need in the box, or will I need to buy any cables or anything?
  10. Any other options, or is the Z906 kinda the only one that comes close to my range? I'm up for it.
  11. I was looking at the 906 but steered away because a lot of the recent reviews said it was DOA or broke shortly after. Doesn't sound the most durable. Thoughts? What about the Polk TL1600? I found that one on Newegg and Amazon for $260, down from $400. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0043M666S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_YUVnFbYBPF4SA
  12. There's a lot of info here to sort through. Yes, I agree Bluetooth isn't a great choice. Quality is pretty bad from what I've read. Which of these options that you recommended would keep me below my $250 budget?
  13. There are clearly options though on Amazon and Walmart. There must be one that will work with my setup. I don't need the works. Just something that's gonna give me something better than my TV (which shouldn't be hard), and two rear nodes so I can hear stuff from behind. Is it really that expensive to do that?
  14. With the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on the horizon (no pun intended), and me getting a new apartment, I'm looking to get a 5.1 surround sound speaker setup. I have a Q6FN Samsung TV. During the PS5 announcement by Mark Cerny, it sounds like the PS5 will support this, but I've never had one before and am trying to find my best option. My initial thought was the Logitech Z606, but it looks like the only way to attach to the TV is via RCA. I don't think my TV has this as an output option. I don't have a multi thousand dollar budget, but can probably spend between $100 and $250. Wondering what my best option would be and how challenging the setup process could be. Any advice on how to actually go about setting up is appreciated as well; I've never done this before! Edit: TV has four HDMI and one Digital Optical Audio Out.
  15. I recently purchased a laptop with a Thunderbolt 3 port, and have heard it's possible to charge through this port. I have an extra fast charge wall wart from my old Galaxy S8, and was wondering if it'd be safe to plug a USB-c cable into it, and charge the laptop through this. I understand it definitely won't charge as quickly as with the included charger, but will it harm my computer in any way?
  16. I recently purchased a Samsung Q6FN. From my understanding the TV has Bluetooth included in it. I'm the kind of guy who likes to have privacy when I watch shows and the like; besides the fact that the audio on most TV's suck and I don't want the noise to bother others; I'm wondering if there's a workaround. I have a Dualshock 4 leftover from selling my PS4. I like to use it for PC gaming, but I'm wondering if it's possible to Bluetooth it to the TV, and then plug my wired headphones into it, using it almost like a remote audio dock. A bit of a janky solution, but I'm wondering if it's possible. I don't really want to shell out the cash for any additional pieces of tech right now as I just dumped a bunch into the TV.
  17. I already have a nice PC and do plan on connecting it to whatever TV I get. You make a fair point. I guess my biggest concern is that something leagues better will come out later this year at a much better price, and I'll be left feeling like I have old hardware. Think there's a good chance of that, or not likely?
  18. Hi all, I currently have a budget of $600 to put towards a TV. I plan on using it for gaming with a Playstation 5 later this year, and would like to make the best of my money. The Samsung Q6FN 55 inch comes with 120hz refresh, and 4K. (though I believe you can't do both at the same time). The refurbished version of this TV is currently available at Walmart for $500, with $50 in tax and another $50 if you want a 3 year warranty (which, at that price, seems like a pretty good deal to me). With the PS5 still not out, but on the horizon of release later this year alongside the Xbox Series X, I'm wondering if it makes sense for me to snag this TV now, or if Samsung will put out another better option that is still within my price range later this year to sell to people buying the new consoles. Some may suggest I merely wait until the PS5 comes out, but my concern is that the Q6FN will go up in price. In October it was $600, then went up to $700 in December, then back down to $500 this month. I'm slightly worried that I will miss my chance to buy it at this low of a price again, especially if other people are purchasing for their own PS5's.
  19. I have an i7-8750H, and an RTX 2060. I just got it so I haven't actually run any stress tests on it yet.
  20. Is there a way I can check and compare my CPU's performance to other CPUs, just to gauge if the thermal paste is doing it's job? That way if it's fine I don't even have to bother opening it up if it's already doing well.
  21. Hey all, I'm the new owner of an MSI GS65 Stealth-006. Going into this purchase I was aware that this laptop is particularly difficult to modify due to the flipped motherboard. I've had a fair bit of experience working with laptops in the past, and am willing to take the risks that come with disassembling it and making modifications myself. I know it's challenging, but I think as long as I'm willing to take the time and be gentle, nothing should get damaged. I intend to repaste my CPU and GPU. I've done this before with a friend of mine who had already purchased thermal paste, so I'm not super familiar with which one would be good to buy. I'd like to get a recommendation on a thermal paste I can purchase from Amazon or Newegg that will give me better performance. I don't necessarily need the top-of-the-line paste (ICE diamond), unless it's only a couple dollars more. I want something that's good quality but don't want to overpay just to see a percentage or a fraction of a percent of performance, you know? In addition to this, I've been reading that adding a thermal pad below an NVMe drive can help improve it's performance. I hadn't heard this before and I'm curious if it's worth doing, and if so, where I can find a couple at a decent price. Most of the ones I've seen on amazon are packs of a dozen or more, and I just don't see myself needing that many. Also, are there any other places I can add padding to help disperse heat? I want to help add or replace padding to help ensure the most efficient cooling on the laptop, so it can last longer and perform better. If anyone has had experience with this exact laptop, that would be even better!
