  1. Good morning, LTT forums, and happy holidays! I have an intermediate level of experience with PC hardware and PC hardware diagnostics, however I am a beginner with software and servers. I recently obtained a tower containing an i7 7920X on an X299 board, as well as an HP workstation. I have installed an RX570 GPU into both machines for testing, verified both systems POST and go into windows and do all the things. My intention is to use one of the two machines to run a home server (HP workstation), and the other (i7 7920X) as a streaming computer. My intentions with the machines are as follows: - Be used to access media such as movies, photos on any machine in the house (Chromecasts, other computers, cell phones) - Run a home based ARK Survival Ascended and Minecraft server I barely have my foot in the door when it comes to running home servers or raid configurations. I would really appreciate any direction on where to start, whether the system should run windows or some other OS. I have done some reading online on what I can do, but I always love to hear from the community on what worked for you and what didn't. Help me avoid mistakes that others may have learned from. I apologize in advance if there is already a thread regarding this. Thank you all! Hope you are all having a great holiday season.
  2. Hello! I went from a Note 9 to an S21 Ultra 5G in 2021, and I never really realized how much I would miss having the S-Pen. I've paid off the phone now, and I really don't want to continue upgrading every couple of years. The S21 has done me no wrong, so I want to buy an S-Pen or equivalent. Based on what I have been reading, there is a compatibility for an aftermarket/off-brand stylus. Can anyone share any experiences with off brand stylus' and their devices and if so, recommend anything to me? Thank you!
  3. I usually get my chipset drivers right from AMD, but I'm sure either which way is fine.
  4. This, as well as make sure youve installed all your drivers, specifically your chipset drivers.
  5. Hey everyone! I have a bunch of movies on a hard drive, and recently came across a used tower that I could put to work. Just has to be able to do two things: - Store media like music, movies and photos that can be accessed from any device in the house (more specifically, our chromecast) - Run our minecraft server at all times Im not new to building PC's by any stretch, but am very new to making a server or any of the programs that come with it. Any help would be much appreciated.
  6. If you have everything tight and installed properly, then the type of thermal compound is highly unlikely to be your root cause of failure here. Potentially a blockage somewhere in the AIO perhaps? Assuming of course that the pump is actually moving coolant around.
  7. Not sure if trolling, 650w is plenty for this rig.
  8. I would double, triple check to make sure that you have everything for the AIO plugged in properly at the right headers. Definitely replace the pre-applied thermal compound on the cooler if you can with some Arctis 5 Silver compound, as it is by far the best bang for your buck and out performs pre-applied thermal paste by a long shot. More importantly, make sure the block is installed properly on the CPU. Is it aligned properly? If your cooler uses the hook style bracket mounts, is it hooked in properly? If it uses 4 screws to secure the cooler to the mobo, are all screws nice and tight? was there any film covering the block that should have been removed? I find it incredibly hard to believe given I am running a corsair H110i cooler on a R7 3800X in an NZXT H500i case, most notorious for its horrible air flow qualities, that you would be running this hot without there being some kind of user error here. I mean that in no disrespect, we all make mistakes.
  9. Building a new system for a family member for Christmas. Specs: Ryzen 5 5600G (Purchased OTC from Memory Express) Asus Dual RX6600 (Received today from Newegg via Purolator) ASrock B550M Pro 4 (Ryzen 5000 ready stamped on the box, Received on Friday 12/03 from Newegg via Purolator) 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3600mhz CMK16GX4M2D3600C18 (Purchased via Amazon) SN750 500GB boot drive (Purchased via Amazon) Cooler Master 650w PSU Gold+ Bronze Performed pre-build test to ensure system posts before putting into a case, NO POST. All PSU plugs are seated Initial tests were with CPU, both sticks of memory in A2 and B2 and dedicated GPU all plugged in, LED boot debug indicates BOOT and VGA on. No POST, black screen. Fans spin on CPU cooler and on GPU. 1. Swapped DRAM to only one stick in furthest left slot - NO CHANGE 2. Removed GPU and installed Display-port cable directly to motherboard for use of iGPU, NO CHANGE 2. Googled, found someone saying no SSD or NVME was causing no POST, installed NVME, NO CHANGE 3. Referred to manual to clear CMOS, NO CHANGE 4. Moved GPU to secondary PCI slot, NO CHANGE 4. Swapped my personal R7 3800X into the CPU socket, NO CHANGE 5. Swapped my personal RX5700XT into the 1st PCI slot, NO CHANGE 5. Swapped my personal G.SKILL F4-3200C16D-16GTZRX (Trident Z 3200mhz 8GBx2) into slot A1, NO CHANGE 6. Installed the RX6600 to rule out DOA into my personal system, PASS WITH SUCCESSFUL POST. 7. Installed the R5 5600G onto my personal system to rule out DOA, PASS WITH SUCCESSFUL POST. 8. Installed the Corsair Vengeance LPX memory (1 stick at a time) into slot A1 on my personal system to rule out DOA, PASS WITH SUCCESSFUL POST. 9. Reinstalled and rebuilt all personal hardware back into my personal system, personal system POSTs with no problem. (I am using it now to create this thread.) 10. Installed all new hardware back onto new motherboard, NO POST. VGA and BOOT debug LED's illuminated. Only thing I can rule out potentially is a bad Mobo. I am opening a ticket with Asrock, and posting here for provisional advise or tips. Thank you.
  10. Well thank you guys very much anyways for your help. I do appreciate it!!!
  11. That's really odd though because absolutely nothing hardwarw wise had changed aside from the OS. That same port and SSD had the OG windows 10 on it.
  12. Booted into the media tool, went into powershell: DISKPART LIST DISK SELECT DISK 0 DETAIL DISK (to confirm I am working on the right drive) CLEAN CONVERT GPT *SUCCESSFUL* Still not showing in Win 11. Only shows my M.2 and my 2TB mass storage drive but still no SATA SSD. All volumes are deleted so it shows as unallocated space if i go through the hoops to select the drive to install windows on. Im not sure if this is pertinent or not, but my BIOS sees the drive in sata configuration, I have also used secure erase to format it. *UPDATE* I found my SATA/IDE to USB adapter. Hooked the drive up to it via USB, it is now initialized and assigned a drive letter. Removed and reinstalled back into the tower, its gone. Swapped from SATA port 1 to SATA port 3.... and its working.
  13. So i downloaded Samsung Magician, and the drive does not even show up there. It sees my WD nvme drive but no samsung SATA drive. I can still see the drive if I boot into the media creation stick, but not in win11 my any means. I am going to try running cmd in powershell to convert the drive to a gpt drive and see if that helps.
  14. Hello hello! I made a mistake a few years back and installed my Win10 OS on my 860EVO SATA SSD instead of my NVME. I decided to upgrade to Win11 and I was going to fix the mistake and do a clean install onto the NVME. In the process of Win11 install I was successful formatting all my hard drives and getting windows 11 on the nvme however I've run into a pickle: Whenever I boot up, the computer asks me if I want to boot into Win11 or Win10 as the Samsung SSD for some reason still has the old OS on it even after i formatted the drives during the install. If i launch the create and format partitions function in win11, that drive is not showing up. If I boot into windows 10, it shows up as it is the C: drive. So I'm just wanting to format that hard drive and reinitialize it as mass storage on windows 11. I've tried a few things but to no avail, I can't seem to have much success. If I run DISKPART in powershell on win11, the drive is not shown. I made some progress by disabling all boot drives in my BIOS except for my media creation USB tool for Win11. I booted onto the USB stick, went through the windows until I could see the list of drives to install windows on. Found the SSD there. Formatted it. But..... After the format I'm still able to boot into windows 10. Did the same thing over again by booting onto the USB stick and instead used powershell to run DISKPART. drive shows up, ran a clean and format, but after, it still has OS on it. Alas, I come to the internet for help. Anything you can suggest that would allow me to wipe that drive would be awesome. Thank you in advance!
  15. So Samsung released the Watch5 series on August 26th, and I have placed my order for one as there appears to be some delays getting them. If you already purchased one and have or have not received your watch, I'd just like to know your thoughts! What version did you go with? Were there delays in your area? If you received it, how are you liking it? Thanks!
  16. A colleague of mine at work sent his younger cousin his old PS4, preloaded with some games like Spiderman, Fortnite etc. For perspective, he is in Canada, his cousin is in the Ukraine. His cousin got his PS4 safely delivered, powered it on and what do ya know, couldnt access the predownloaded titles due to some kind of region lock. Im asking on his behalf for some help, his cousin was kind of shattered when he got his console and couldnt do anything with it. I am sure there is a workaround for digital copies of games being purchased in one region and being able to play them in another. I have a PIA VPN and I havent hit my registered device limit, so I am happy to lend that to them if needed. Thanks in advance!
  17. Would there be any disadvantage of putting a 5800X on an X470 chipset? I'm more or less concerned of my boards power delivery/stability versus just getting a B550 or X570 board.
  18. So given that I'm using a PCI gen 4 card on a gen 3 board, there would be no beneficial gain to performance to switch out the mobo to a gen 4 board? Because if that's the case, I have a friend selling his 3800XT CPU that I could also go with.
  19. So I ended up with some extra cash at the start of the year, and I'm considering throwing some upgrades to the system I currently have, thought I'd check in with yall and see what you think. The specs in my signature are currently accurate. I'm thinking about doing a CPU, mobo and ram swap. I'd be doing a 5800X on either a B550 or X570 board with some 3600mhz memory. I would keep the 5700XT GPU. Either that, or I keep my board and chip and throw money at a new GPU. Something like a 3070Ti. Either way, I'm into it for close to the same price Either way. Which route do you guys think would be the best way to go with a gaming dominant with passive workstation task type of system? Thanks!
  20. Hey everyone. So I bought this TM HOTAS One Brand new in box, but I bought it off a local classifieds as there was no stock anywhere at any store local to me. Primary use is for Elite: Dangerous. Right out of the box, it has joystick drift on yaw left, and when you pitch the nose up (joystick downward movement), its very sporadic. Sometimes it does not recognize the input and when it does, I can see using the graph on the software that the recognized input is just all over the place. Every other axis and button works fine. TM won't do anything to help me because I did not purchase it from an authorized retailer, so I am left with fixing it. I just dont really know where to start with this. Seen some YouTube videos on the yaw drift but nothing for the pitch failure. Does anyone here have some experience with this and is willing to help me out? TIA!
  21. I have had an ad on facebook marketplace to get rid of some VERY old hardware. I posted for sale an Intel Core i7 860 quad core chip on an OEM H57 chipset board with 8GB of DDR3 memory. Posted it for like 50 bucks as it meant nothing to me, it was sitting in a box for so long taking up space. It never really had many hits until tonight where my phone has been going off the hook with people messaging me desperately wanting this board and chip. Am I missing something here? Did the market value for decade old hardware just boom and I didn't even know about it?
  22. I had ended up getting a different webcam and tested out a friends C920 and his works fine on every computer where mine had issues. I suspect its just an internal fault in the camera. I have a C270, works. Avermedia 1080p camera, works. I now use my Rebel T5i with a fixed lens and EOS webcam utility drivers, works fantastic.
