No it will not explode, it will be fine. The phones/laptops/tablets and the charger do a simple handshake every time and they ask the charger for however many volts/amps they need. Just if you plan to charge your laptop through USB C make sure you buy a cable that actually supports 100W charging, many of them do not.

Yep gotta love capitalism. Screw other people over in the name of profit because who cares about other people. It's why tickets to live events have been basically impossible to sell at a reasonable price. I'm sorry but scalpers provide little value to society other than inflated prices on scarce products. Sure the only person that really benefits from scalpers is the rich who can afford the price hike as it ensures they is stock left that they cN buy even if it is an inflated one. Me I prefer when it was first come first serve and you just had to be lucky to get a product rather than people cheating the system with bots.

The only thing I think you should keep in mind, @wisex, is that the water in a WC loop might not get that hot, unless you were gaming or had a lot of load on various components.

This is a realistic view of this. Do something useful with the waste heat, but don't expect much.

    Hi,

Great, or crazy minds think alike..... This is a project I have been wanting to do for some time, but not yet gotten round to.

I was discussing with a friend about this and he think's that you wouldn't be able to generate the power needed with the engine. At the time of discussing with him I was suggesting driving a gearbox which would drive the fans, however you might be able to power a small generator with it.

Considering some of these things can be powered with a tea light it might be possible.

There are a lot of variables to explore, such as how do you capture the heat, what do you want the engine to do, how will you mount it, cost is a big thing too.

I do intend to sit down and do some of the maths one day...

Wouldn't it be easier to wire up all hot components with thermoelectric generators (TG) (in other words peltier generators) while the thermal efficiency is abysmal (3-8%) it will probably not be worse than the total system efficiency of trying to harness the waste heat from a computer with a stirling engine* and much simpler with no moving parts.

*say the stirling engine has a thermal efficiency of 20% (I'm being generous here, but for the record cited highest thermal efficiency for a stirling engine I could find is around 38%) you also need to take in to account how much of the waste heat you actually manage to get to the actual stirling engine and generation losses I would imagen that you end up at a system efficiency (compared to all available waste heat) of around a TG but with a much more complex system.

EDIT:// BTW this is a great video suggestion @AlexTheGreatish, I remember LTT making a peltier cooled computer. Why not try and see how much power you can generate with a TG computer using waste heat.

    Hello everyone,
As energy prices have started soaring here in Florida, we've been trying to find ways to reduce our power usage. Right now the gaming PC I have really just achieves in warming up whatever room I'm in when I'm putting heavy loads on it, be it gaming or video editing... What if it was possible to harvest some of that heat to turn it into kinetic energy that can be harvested to make electricity? The Stirling engine is an old tech that uses the temperature differential between (usually) two plates to push a piston that rotates a fly wheel, the rotation of that fly wheel can be connected to a small generator that can probably be used to charge something like portable batteries and such? For the best efficiency the case would have to be entirely sealed and heat generating components would probably need passive style coolers on it so that any air current inside the case doesn't affect the operation of the stirling engine... I don't mind my PC running hot but would the power dissipation from the stirling engines be enough to have any noticeable power offset (perhaps with reduced AC useage as well)? Would it just be like having a PC with no case fans and passive heat sink coolers? How much power do you reckon would be possible to create with one sterling engine alone(or multiple?)? perhaps having the PC in a separate room to avoid the noise of the sterling engines would also be the best option? Ideally my plan would be to get a few of these engines to charge up a nice battery bank that I can probably charge my portable electronics with... I would share the engines that I'm looking at as a consideration but I wanna get everyones feedback and criticism of this project... also I don't know what the rules are regarding posting links for buying things?... So would this be a possibility?

One like this (the first video) would probably be the best one to mount on top of the case, these can be found for about $40 on amazon, but some similar models with already included generators can be found for about $20 on aliexpress...

wisex reacted to porina in Self driving cars are technologically impressive but are a poor solution.
Mass transport, as its name implies, is only really efficient if you have a large number of people making the same trip at the same time. I think the world has changed a little bit, and the old concept of "rush hour" is dying.

For big cities good public transport can be a useful factor. A lot of the world population is not in a big city, and that's where more flexibility is needed.

Self driving cars I think, in the long term, will be a thing for the rich to own. For most people, a car is not doing anything for most of the time they own it. With self driving vehicles, I can see it being cheaper to have like a taxi on demand than outright car ownership. There can also be a middle ground, if you can imagine a larger shared car that operates like a  bus without a fixed route.

There also needs more options for local transport. Public transport can have coverage gaps that still need to be filled.

Dell Ultrasharps is what you seek. They nearly all, or all, use LG panels, all are IPS panels, they look modern (in my opinion), have the best on screen menu (again, in my opinion). Decent uniform backlight. What's not the like? (beside HDR, freesync/G-SYNC, 144Hz+, etc)

They are often on special, and they can drop the drop the price just by asking over the phone or maybe chat, if it's not on special. (Although, now with the high demand from work from home... maybe not, but worth a shot).

Lenovo is good too.. well not everything, they have garbage, but they have IPS like the one you got. Probably also uses an  LG panel

    hi everyone,

First and foremost, if you get triggered by posts i recommend you should rather skip this one.

The subject matter is not really about YouTube or the creators but rather focus on myself as
the consumer of content and how it is effecting me and what my conclusions are.

For the rest of you that took the time to read this thank you for keeping an open mind.

So its 2020 and if your year was anything like mine it was probability a stressed cluster Ⅎ‾ɔʞ and not something i would like to have a repeat of.

In this post i am going to address something i have noticed over the years of consuming YouTube content.

First and foremost, i asked myself a simple question "Why am i still watching YouTube?"
To be clear many creators do a lot to bring out the best quality and content they can. But at the same time i see many of them are just tired.
Others really don't care what they upload and hardly put in any effort at all. Still this is not about mud slinging this about addressing a very
    serious question.

How much time do i spend watching content, reading content or listening to content. Well turns out i spend a lot more time on it then i care
to mention and to the point it is worrying because every hour i spend on this content is an hour lost in anything else.

So i looked in the mirror like I did in the past when i was still an alcoholic and a smoker. Is this my new addiction? As someone who has been
addicted to something and realized a scary truth. i am factually hooked on content consumption. So i decided i will work on this and rather
spend the time growing my new business rather then watching video after video. In short to put it in perspective. i spend about 8 hours just
randomly watching anything i considered to be a distraction.

That 8 hours is 8 hours no work was done, no studies was done. Fact is i didn't do a thing worth noting.

So what is the big deal?

Well since "to my knowledge" where i live internet addiction isn't officially recognized. That said i know myself and i know an addiction when
    i see it.

So i setup a website blocker and i realized it was irritating me to the extreme because i had to enter in a code to see a YouTube. It was at
this point i realized that yes i think this might be a problem for me. It is a problem for my productivity.

So i ordered some parts and will be setting up a few physical devices to start actively blocking websites and streaming services. This
means i will not have a convenient way to get to YouTube.

Right oldSock your stupid idiot why did you feel this is important, why should we care?

Well just keep a simple log on how much content you consume. Calculate the hours of the log and then put whatever you get paid per
hour and see how valuable this becomes. Then you can start calculating how many hours per month and even per year you are losing.

It becomes scary and fast. Now i personally don't use YouTube for education BUT i know many of my friends do so that might be a
problem for them to block it outright. Honestly i don't know of a good solution for them unless the device can have rule to allow ONLY
that YouTube. Again something i need to figure out.

But seriously, do look at it. It is really  scary how much can be lost.

    Anyhow be safe
    thank you for reading.
