  1. Did you find a solution to this because I am having the same issue with a ryzen 2600 with a aorus M board. I found that if I pull the NVMe (SN500 WD Blue), which should be compatible with this board according to the manufacturer, when I do that, it will post. I've updated the bios and still nothing. Would be interested if any of you found a fix.
  2. Sorry to jump your thread here but was hoping someone had found a solution to this. I have dram light (alternative with CPU briefly) on Aorus M board. Pulled all of the components one at a time, turned out that it wasn't a ram issue, it was the SN500 WD blue NVMe drive causing the issue. That being said, the drive should be working in the board because I have checked and it is compatible. Any ideas?
  3. Sorry, probably should have mentioned. I checked the drive against their QVL.
  4. Afternoon folks. I am putting together a media pc with the following specs and am having a problem. Aorus M B450 V1 MB 16GB (2 x 8GB) Vengence LPX DDR 4 Mem (3000mhz) SN 500 WD Blue NvME drive 4 x 8TB Barracuda drives (sata) The problem: According to the manufacturer, the board is M.2 NVMe compatible, M. The drive I have, the WD Blue SN500 is both B+M. When I boot with the nvme attached, the machine wont post and shows red "DRAM" light. When I take it out, it does post. I have already updated the bios (just incase). Have gone through the process of checking every connection on the board, reseated the processor, ram etc just to make sure. But it just wont boot. Any ideas folks? Is there some arsy option I have to enable in the bios? Cheers in advance Martin
  5. Having to build the rack case myself because I just cannot find one I like which has enough space for what I need, but vertically rather than front to back (I have a short depth rack). The choices are quite pathetic. So I am aiming to build a 6u short depth case which should allow me to go full ATX mounted vertically. Also gives a hell of a lot of space for placing drive caddies in rows down the front for hot plug and play (or just easy access).
  6. Will definately be AMD - I'm "one of them" who stuck with AMD. LOL
  7. Well from my understanding, plex has the ability to hardware encode, so might shove something video card wise in and pass it through to the VM, offload the transcoding to that. Although to be honest with you. I prefer to use Tdarr to transcode my video files rather than plex. That way all of the files on my drive are the same format. Which will actually be what one of the VMs are for.
  8. I had a look at the LSI 9201-16i's - seems to be exactly what I am looking for. Thinking about making the underlying processor something like a Ryzen 5 2600x, just not sure whether it will be able to handle running 2 windows VM's at the same time as plex in a docker and general dutiies of being a NAS. What you think?
  9. It's less of a NAS and more of a storage server, even though storage will be its primary function. Was thinking unraid which would allow me to setup certain things in containers but also to setup and run a few VMs if required.
  10. I am currently building a new case for a nas that I am looking to build. Overall system will have four ssd's in raid 10 for the OS drives and 18 mechanical drives. Looking for recommendations on cards etc that will support 18 mechanical + 4 ssd drives. mj
  11. Unlikely to be corrosion in such a short period more likely to be a short due to liquid across contacts. I suggest getting something like a fan and blowing air passively into one of the vents for a few hours and try booting up in the morning. I would NOT suggest dismantling it if it is still under warranty because the second you do that warranty will become void.
  12. Orrrrrrrrr, if there is enough space on his harddrive, you could just create a seperate partition and back stuff up to there. Save waiting for the transfer time.
  13. Dare I say it..........Onedrive? PMSL
  14. Gotcha. Well to be totally honest with you here if you are getting error 0x800f0805 then that's going to pose issues for windows updates in the future. I remember that evil code from a corruption my wives PC suffered as a result of a hinky windows update circa Jan 2018. 7 days later, still no solution. My honest advice is backup files and wipe and re-install particularly if you're doing hardware changes.
  15. Stupid question but did you install the OS or did he? Are we sure that it is the right version of Win 10 for the key?
  16. I had a very similar problem to this, it was the GPU not being seated right in the motherboard slot by just a fraction. After 10-20 mins of operation the contacts would obviously expand very slightly and rebooting sorted it. Try re-seating the graphics card and see if that helps.
  17. That sounds like he's changed the hosts file to block online verification. Try navigating to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and replace the hosts file with the original windows one I have attached below. Then try changing the windows key again. hosts
  18. As Andrew Says, fresh install is the easiest way. You could also use slmgr.vbs to enter the new key through command prompt. See guide here: https://www.howtogeek.com/245445/how-to-use-slmgr-to-change-remove-or-extend-your-windows-license/
  19. Looking for a wireless USB (keyboard/mouse) and HDMI KVM solution, distance approx 20m.
  20. I've posted this under the server subgroup because I wasn't 100% sure where to put it. It's about my plex server, ergo the thinking behind putting it under server. LOL Anyway. I have a bit of a daft issue but its one of those things where you just want to bang your head off of the nearest wall. It may very well be an interesting topic for LTT for doing a video on, I just don't know. Buuuut I am hoping that the tech savy LTT forum members will be able to solve this. I have plex setup on a pretty basic system in the hall. At the moment movies are stored on one drive, my TV programmes on another inside sub directories for the series name and broken down into seasons. However, a lot of the video files are huuuuuuuuge because they are ultra HD etc. Plex allows you to optimise the files into a format more condusive for specific devices and for better streaming while watching over the network. It stores these optimisations in a sub-directory under the folder for the particular season where the original file is stored. So if the directory of the original is say Expanse/Season 1, then the optimised version would be Expanse/Season 1/Plex Versions/Optimised or some such. However, now you have both the original source file in the main directory AND the optimised version. Plex have had numerous requests since 2015 for this addition for plex service but as of yet.......nadda! There is very little on the subject anywhere on how to do this. What I want to do in simple terms is have all the movie files and all the TV series files converted to 1080p and the new file put in the same directory as the existing one, then the orginal deleted but for this to happen automagically. So every time I add a new file, it transcodes it to the new format (thereby making the filesize smaller), puts it in the same directory then deletes the original. Simple as that.........or so you would think. Any ideas folks? I bring this up because likely something similar but a different format might be useful to video editors as well. Any help would be appreciated because it is irritating me and I just have waaaay too big a collection to sit and do this manually.
  21. Starting with that, but I am looking to obviously get more heavily involved in editing etc, so want something that will be able to do a fair bit more as I learn more.
