Ether people have blowen this out of proportion or like we're all very confused. if you just want to host for a few friends don't even worry about it. Honestly just start working with Spigot (new bukkit) and learn from there. Don't over think this too much. Host for a few friends. Learn and understand Spigot and plugins and Minecraft Server Community then start hosting.

Sorry to burst your bubble but this industry is VERY socially driven. If you are a networking expert I'd love to see a packet tracer setup of your network layout. That would be cool

As a student in college for network engineering at the moment, specifically with Cisco and a minor in Microsoft Server Administration, and being in the course for two years, with two additional years of real-world experience, let me be the first to tell you that you are not as wise as you think. Your infrastructure is not as secure as you think. If you truly want to excel in a career of network engineering, you must treat every single scenario as completely insecure. Even if you are using the most secure technology there is in existence.

I highly recommend taking a class in Healthcare IT when you get to your college days. HIT has some of the most secure networks that exist, due to the extreme confidentiality of patient information. If you think you're good now, those courses ought to put you in your place. And just as @DanTheMuffinMan said, learn to be more humble. While I want to wish you the best, the fact that you're coming off as cocky is preventing me from doing so. I know how tough the course is, I know how difficult the entire field can be. People take security very seriously, and those same people take the level of cockiness you have as ignorance (which it is), and will distrust you enough to look to other alternatives, even if you are more than capable. There is such a thing as being over confident. I've lost one internship and several freelance jobs for being too confident.

As someone who have been hosting a private server before. It's not worth a measly $5 a month to maintain just a single server.

Hi, I've done Minecraft hosting (for myself and friends not on large scale or anything crazy) for 4 years now, and honestly your internet is shit. Your specs look okay but you might want to do some research on how other major hosts do it. You'll also be competing with all of those hosts so unless your price is like $3/mo with better internet among many other things I wish you luck dude. Do what the post above me by DanTheMuffinMan said. Experience is key with this stuff. Host your own MC server for a while and then try and get stuff moving.

P.S. Your ISP won't like you running a business from your home connection. My guess is that you have Comcast/Xfinity. You would need to upgrade to Business Class (Lost more money) and get multiple IPs (more money). But, I still wish you luck with this adventure. It's not bad for a 15 year old honestly. I wish I had this stuff like 4 years ago when I started my Minecraft hosting endeavor.

Don't do it guy, it's great that you're learning and everything. Definitely way ahead of where I was at 23, let alone 15. If you want to run a MC server for your and your friends, go for it, but people shouldn't be paying you for your experiments and learning experiences.

It's also a lot of work for $5 / month, the extra electrical juice alone might cost that much. Anyway, you'll spend a few hours configuring it initially and a few hours of work a month on it (servers are always more work then you think, nothing is ever set and forget anymore ) so that means you think your time is less worth then $5 / hour? Anyway, my advice would be to go ahead and set it all up, get a friend's MC server loaded up on it, and then find all the problems and learn from them.

Also you'll want to learn to be humble about your skills, NOBODY want's to work with, or do business with "that guy"

    Hi,
I know I'd probably have to end up making my own modded case but I was wondering if there was any cases that could support like 8 mother boards and all that jazz so that it would be easy to host a really big LAN party and just have everything on one cooling system that is not as extreme as the whole house thing Linus loves to brag about

Ok, you want to buy a domain name. The most you can do is 5-10 years (~$100 for a .com, 10yr no matter where it's from). I recommend name.com because they are cheep and super good.

If you want to self host your website (I'm assuming you understand HTML/CSS/JS/PhP, or at least some parts), you're going to need something like XAMPP, LAMP or WAMP setup.

XAMPP: For local testing, install on computer(s) you would like to edit your code on so localhost will run your website.

WAMP: Also for local testing on Win computers.

LAMP: More so if you know what you're doing. This is the package/setup you use on a linux computer to make your website 24/7 home-hosted.

Turns out the answer was a "Linking table". According to my course work, there are 2 types of tables, primary and linking. In the exam I guessed primary as the answer to the question. So I was on the right lines, just the wrong table. Apparently a primary table is one where data is not going to be changed very often, and almost always unique. A linking table is an intermediary table, linking various primary tables. Well, now I know, I guess

Background Information:  Macbooks are one of the many types of popular notebooks.  People spend lots of money for Apple hardware, and in this guide/tutorial I will show you the steps of setting up fancontrol on a Macbook Pro.  By setting up the fanspeed to something reasonable, it will greatly increase the notebook's lifecycle.  In this guide/tutorial, the Macbook I am using is the Macbook Pro 13"(9,2).  The steps that I am demonstrating should apply to most of the Intel based Apple portable notebooks.  The software that I am using is free, and it is called smcFanControl.

    Requirements:
An Apple branded notebook.(Hackintoshes, you are on your own) Internet connection Administrative permission Computer running 1.4.x or higher. Step 1: Aquiring the software
Go to http://www.eidac.de/ and download the most upto date version of smcFanControl.

A valid reason for hating on Vista was it's resource usage. It was noticeably more of a memory hog. The general population couldn't care less, but the difference was still there. The switch to Windows 7 fixed that.

As for Windows 8, I attribute the slow adoption to lack of touchscreen monitors for desktop systems (or lack of inexpensive 23" touchscreens http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007721%20600012169&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&Order=PRICE&PageSize=20 $261 for the cheapest in the 19-24" range). The UI works really well on tablets and ultrabooks (and phones). It's wonderfully elegant, but not ready for mainstream desktop usage.

My personal aversion to Windows in general is its closed nature. But that's going way off topic.

He's not ranting. It's the truth. People always "hate" something just because other people dislike it. It's a trend with any product on the market.

And the general public really loathes change. They want to stay within their comfort zone. But that's one thing people have to realize: as technology progresses, you will undoubtedly have to step out of that said "zone" and see for yourself what the fuss is all about.

If you give a product, such as Windows 8, the good 'ol college try and truly keep an open mind about it and you still don't like it, alright. That's personal preference and opinion. Perfectly acceptable. But if one doesn't like something just because that's the overwhelming opinion, I say that's a little unfair. But that's just me.

(I realize now that I'm probably the one whose ranting...pardon)  :P
