Reading Into that article you linked, the ux430un has the 25w version, but it trottles down to be right between both versions in performance. I'm ok with that. I'm not buying it as a gaming machine, but rather a productivity device that I can play a few casual games while on the go.

Awesome I'm glad to hear from someone with first hand experience. Watching a Matthew moniz review from this generation of the ux430, he didn't mention any outrageous sounds with the laptop, and in my experience watching him he would have noticed it if there was. I know I'm going to take a little bit of a build quality hit compared to an xps 13 or MacBook, but I think it will be above average enough for me to be ok with it.

So I've been looking at laptops and Ultrabooks the last few weeks, and really looking at some lightweight laptops to carry around for university to take notes and write papers and stuff on. Mostly productivity tasks. So I was looking for something with an 8th gen i5, 8gm of Ram minimum, and some kind of SSD. In looking I was very interested in the xps 13(was just the best Ultrabook in my mind) , and Asus ux330(was the best price to performance) and a few other devices. Then I saw a sale on the Asus ux430un and it seems to be too good to pass up https://m.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/asus-zenbook-14-laptop-grey-intel-core-i5-8250u-512-gb-ssd-16gb-ram-windows-10-open-box/12302816 It's by far the best specs I've seen in an Ultrabook in this price range, and having a dedicated gpu(even if it is slow) will be really nice to have. My question is is does anyone have any gripes with this laptops, reasons not to get it? I'm disappointed it doesn't have thunderbolt or USBC charging (but since it has a dgpu I think I can live without thunderbolt) but other than that I can't find many problems with it. Is there any other alternative in that $1000-$1200 cad budget?

hello everyone, i am not dead. Its been awhile.
E: Ive been looking at new ultrabooks for school, as i likely have another 4 or 5 years of that coming up, and ive been looking at high end devices like the xps 13. however ive been struggling on weather its worth it to make sure i have an 8th gen cpu. I dont just want this device for now, but hopefully another 5 years, so would a quad core 8th gen i5 be more "future proof" than a dual core 7th gen i7

apple watch doesnt give you the same running metrics of a recent garmin. The gps quality will be about the same, the heart rate monitors are still wrist based so they will be evenly inaccurate, but the garmin gives you other features like vo2 max, cadence, stride length, ground contact time, vertical oscillation , race predictor, and other running specific metrics that a runner would find useful. thats what ive gathered from other runners. yes its a good smart watch, yes it can track runs, but as a running watch is much more basic.

i would argue that the garmin with its garmin connect and strava integration is a better runner dedicated watch, but the apple watch series 2 is also $250 more for the baseline option

im looking for more of a running watch, with run tracking being the most important part. the only real smart watch features i use on my pebble is the notifications and the garmin is good enough at that.

I like to run. im a high school track athlete and i run on my own and with the team. Currently i track my runs on my phone (one plus x) via run keeper. Recently i started borrowing my dads garmin forerunner 210 to track my runs and i can say i like it much better. While i do like having my phone on me for music, its much better to have a wrist based solution for tracking things like track sessions and my ball hockey. Ive poked around and currently the best deal and option im leaning towards most is the garmin forerunner 235 for $300 cad. while it isnt perfect it is by far the best deal i have found and it would be a suitable replacement for my pebble time. Is there any better deals out there on gps running watches? any extra features would be appreciated but i mainly need to track my runs, and would like to use it as a daily watch so smart notifications and features is nice

Well I think this might be a bit of an unpopular opinion here, but I'm thinking of selling my laptop and my desk top and getting a good laptop(Ultrabook) that I can use for everything. Somethibg like am XPS 13 with a dgpu would be great, but also expensive as balls.

Well I got a job so I'll either be going to France in 2017 or building a PC. The latter is seemingly being the most likely as the 2017 trip to France requires an $800/mo payment for the 6 or so months until April 2017 when the final payment is due. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get them to work with whatever we can afford each month and pay what ever is left in April... If so, then I won't be building a PC in early 2017. If not, then I'll be building a PC likely in January or February.
Soon enough, I'll be getting closer to my goal of $1,600 saved up for my PC build. (Right PCPartpicker says it's $1,516 but I'm trying to have a little money on the side to maybe get a desk and chair from Ikea or Walmart.)Anyways, besides all that talk about money. Things have been going pretty good.
