  1. Update guys: I managed to make it work, no problems.

I used the first partition as SWAP, it turns out that the partition was there because it was holding a bootloader for Windows 7, as the drive used to boot 7 before I moved it to the SSD.

The Windows 10 installation is actually legacy, so I went to the BIOS and changed settings to force all boots to be in legacy, to prevent any ugly mishaps.

Thank you all for your help!

  2. Hi guys,

I'm trying to dual boot a rather unorthodox but simple setup:

I am currently running Windows 10 on Disk 1 (a 120GB mSATA SSD) and wish to install Ubuntu on a 28GB partition which I have already allotted on Disk 0 (the original 280GB mechanical drive which came with the machine). Will installing Ubuntu into the 28G partition affect my E: drive at all? For context, I am not new to Linux dual-booting, as I have done it before on previous machines, but this is my first time doing it with two separate drives.

    Thank you!

  3. Consoles are only good if you want to save yourself the work of building/installing/downloading/configuring all the necessary soft/hardware for a gaming PC. but honestly, thats where the fun is in it.

Personally I think the entire console/PC war is stupid. To each their own, no matter how stupid their decision may be.

  4. So I started working at the library recently (two months ago) as patron tech support, meaning that I help people with random issues they have with our public-use computers and book check-in/out systems.

    I have witnessed:

    • A lady sending ~15 copies of an 8-page email about cats to our print server
    • A number of people who literally took the book's barcode and rubbed it against the touchscreen check-out station, when there's a laser right below it?!?
    • Someone on the computer literally screaming "BUS DIRECTIONS" at the computer expecting it to load the city's transit website...
    • A person tried to fix a paper jam on our printer. By taking out all the paper and expecting it to print again.

They will read out the same. The barcode itself is duplicated in reverse halfway down the middle.

So if you swipe forward, or if you swipe reverse, the same code will be recognized.

    Sounds great, thanks!

  6. Quick question for you guys, are swipe barcode readers bidirectional? For example, if the barcode sequence is 01234567 and I swipe the card in reverse so that the numbers appear as 76543210, will they both be interpreted as the same?

    Thanks!

9/10 Love it. Slight change to composition and that would have been the perfect product placement photo.

Here's my new wallpaper for my 10" tablet.

8/10, the bright spot at the top kind of kills the mood for the photo.

Because not all busses have that feature, the ones I ride I have to manually push it open so when I go to a different city muscle memory takes over.  Plus not every bus on every line is the latest model they have a lifespan of 12 years so some lines don't have that feature and again people aren't use to it.

    Ah, that makes more sense.

Here in NYC, our older buses require you to actually push on the marking (which hides an electromagnetic tape), while the newer buses have a motion sensor that simulates the electromagnetic tape. I try to manually force the door open if I'm the only one getting off at the stop, so that the door slams behind me, instead of the driver waiting for the door to electronically close.

  10. Some kid went Super Saiyan on the power button when his computer wouldn't turn on in school...poor thing.

Also, again going slightly off topic, but our buses (anyone who lives in a major city knows) have a passenger-operated exit door where you place your hand on a marked area on the door pane and a motion sensor will detect it and open the door, I see people punching, pushing, kicking the living shit out of the door and I'm just sitting there like....

    WHY?

9.5/10 really nice picture. It would be a 10 for me if it wasn't for the partial desaturation.

Here's one I took yesterday, I just liked the randomness of it, and the colors really don't bring anything to it, so B/W it is. :P

9/10, I like the colors and the sharp contrast between the dried grass and the horse.
