Yes, macOS is a memory hog and xcode with the emulator use their fair share of ram. Plus you can't upgrade it in the future because Apple, so it may be best to go for the safe option.

That makes me sad, because the Ryzen 3 2400G is great oportunity for an awesome Mac Mini, being reasonably priced and powerful

To answer your original question, if you absolutely cannot affort anything else, you could run run the 500bq, but its still semi sketchy especially with vega drawing as much power as it does.

Def get the quad core. So much more performance. I just bought one this weekend and I love it so far.

This is the 1440p monitor I use. Has surprisingly decent colors for a TN panel, 300 nit brightness which you can definitely tell, 144hz and Freesync.. the perfect combination for what you want with your Vega 64. Match made in heaven!!

Use a hair dryer from some distance ... basically just enough to have warm air blow on the back.

Dunno what kind of cooker you have ... if it's induction plate than the induction part could damage chips inside the phone if the phone is too close to it ... it heats metal bits inside while the other bits stay cool, things heat unevenly, chips can pop because of this and so on...

May be possible to boil some water and then use the heat rising from the water ... but then you'd probably trip the humidity sensors inside the phone.

A heat gun is fairly cheap, you don't need anything fancy. Not sure if an electric cooker would work at all tbh

You'll burn your fingers long before the adheisive is hot enough to lift off.

Ask your mom or find a friend who has a gf and ask to borrow her hairdryer, when asked why just say "You know nothing of the tech community", you'd be surprised how often I use my girlfriends hairdryer to get adhesive loosened (about once a week lol)

As far as I know, there is a minor performance hit of around ~10% using an eGPU over Thunderbolt 3

For what it's worth I'm a .NET developer (not .net core yet) and am looking for the same thing in non-mac form. I had considered a Macbook Pro, but then when I thought about it from both the cost and reality standpoint I wouldn't be using it as a Mac probably 95% of the time if not 99% of the time so why pay the apple tax?

Your situation is different in that you are developing iOS and Mac apps and only have the one choice unless you want to go "Hackintosh" and that's not necessarily reliable. The Dilemma I face with non-mac laptops are quite frankly every laptop manufacturer pretty much sucks. I worked for several companies over the years and quite frankly feel none of them can be trusted (Apple Included).

(Not going to sit here and type out the list of every company but here are some of the top)
Apple - see Louis Rossman's youtube channel
Dell - One of the companies I am close with had to RMA most of the laptops they received within 3 months
Razer - Ask Linus about the ones he bought for his staff
Asus - Not the worst, But QA seems to need improvement. ex:\\ A gaming laptop that was purchased didn't get the HDMI out tested. It was found after the warranty period expired because it's not often used. Granted this would be found quicker for a work laptop as HDMI out is a common use case.
Lenovo - Not worth Trusting Since Superfish, Not the sturdiest Build Quality either

So to all the anti-apple pushers I ask realistically, with Build Quality and Battery Life being the key tenets what else is there but the Macbook Pro?

I was just letting you know the Aoc monitor I got was pretty cheap and works great. I wouldn’t overlook that brand, maybe order the 1440p one from amazon and if you don’t like it send it back.

I bought the aoc g2590fx monitor that’s on the supported list and it runs great with my 2060. No issues at all and it was only $180

The thing is, there are monitors with terrible FreeSync implementation that may malfunction causing stuttering and alike, but these monitors will be crappy even with AMD hardware.

Just don't buy the cheapest monitor out there you'll be fine.
The problem of overclocking a G-Sync / FreeSync monitor is that while you may get more refresh rate off it you will lose the G-Sync / FreeSync functionality so it's really worth bothering with it.
The thing is, the RTX 2060 is significantly cheaper than the RTX 2070 and you saw the graphics, there's barely no difference in performance between the two, so this extra money spending is rather 'pointless'.

If you want more than the RTX 2060 the correct purchase is the cheapest RTX 2080 or (if second hand) GTX 1080 Ti.

They support ALL FreeSync monitors, those 'few and expensive' ones are just "nVidia Certified" and certifications are needless for the greatest part.

I have tried myself with a non-certified FreeSync monitor using my 1080 Ti and it worked flawlessly.

Also the RTX 2060 is by far the best pick, it's cheaper than both the RTX 2070 and Vega64 while being extremely more "cold" so quieter operation and draws a lot less electricity meaning it's cheaper and depends less on a high end power supply unit, all that while providing on pair performance.

Then again it's your money, your call.

    Cheers.

It also depends on what the CL timings (also called CAS Latency) are, too. Lower timings are better.

If you have, for example, 3200mhz CL17 RAM and 3000mhz CL15 RAM, and the 3000 is cheaper because of it's lower frequency, stick with the 3000 since the CL17 would be bringing the 3200 down to around the same performance of the 3000mhz CL15. There's some math involved (and I think a site that calculates it) but you want low timings with Ryzen, too. Not just frequency.

I'm sorry if I made it too complicated, I just wanted to clarify because it does matter with Ryzen.
