Posting a link from The Verge because I feel it is more appropriate 😄

Anyways, do you think since Youtube canceled Rewind, should Linus do a rewind of LTT? Something like greatest bits, outtakes no one has seen, maybe a sneak peek at a big project for next year at the end?

After 2 years of suffering with a Core 2 Duo E7500, Intel GMA 4500, 4gb DDR3 RAM, 240 watt PSU, 320 GB HDD, I'm finally able to build my mid-spec PC for sim-racing and some video editing. I'm so happy right now even though it's a mid-range graphics card, I'm finally able to play games I only dreamed of back then. Here are the specs!

    CPU: Intel Core i5-4460
    GPU: Palit Jetstream GTX 970
    RAM: 16GB DDR3
    MOBO: Asrock Z97 Extreme 4
    PSU: 600 watts

I do wonder if this will have a lasting impact on the subs and donations people give streamers. Probably not but still wondering about that.

Also curious as to what people are going to steal for their own sites from this now that a bunch of code on how Twitch does it got leaked.

Did change my password. Wasn't worried about it since I don't use twitch except for sea of thieves free skins and I used a random password any way :p.

RoseLuck462 reacted to mariushm in Why cannot a CPU be used as a GPU?
A gpu chip has a lot of very simple cores , hundreds or thousands of them, with just a few specialized functions, and all these "cores" can work in parallel on parts of each frame drawn on the screen to make lots of frames per second.
A cpu has much more complex cores which can do a lot of complex operations.

The vram on video card is needed to store as close as possible to the gpu cores the information about what's in the frame and the textures that get applied over all the items in the frame ... ex a tree, a door, wall of a building, etc ... everything is made out o thousands of polygons and triangles, and textures are applied over those triangles to make the picture you see.

You can't custom build a video card because it's just harder... you're dealing with memory chips that must be much closer to the gpu chip, can't have them on sticks because the extra distance and wire resistance of the slots would cause issues. those memory chips run at higher frequencies.
It's also pointless to have a gpu chip on a socket, because for example you could have a gtx 1050 ti chip that consumes under 60w or you could have a rtx3070 chip which consumes 250 watts ... it would be silly to make the  buyer spend 100$ or so on the base video card circuit board with a VRM (dc-dc converter) capable of supplying 300w to a gpu chip, if that gpu chip only consumes 60w.

From my experience, don’t give any refunds until you have the product back in your hands and hopefully you have pics so you can have proof if it’s been swapped or not.

If the penguins melted the icebergs that wouldn't work out so great for them would it?
But you've got a point - I refurbish and sell the PCs my school throws out (usually core 2 Duo, 4gb of ram) - I put a 240gb SSD and cheap discrete GPU in them and give them Ubuntu 20.04 or Debian. They're still perfectly usable.

Felt like sharing this video(not mine!) on the topic of tech and green activism as whole.
I feel like this is very important discussion among us enthusiasts and others who have desktop or even laptop for that matter.
Precisely when it comes to reducing the e-waste and repurposing old desktops or old laptops.

Very curious to know your opinions on this, because I personally think we should this kind of discussions on things like this that have massive amounts of impact on things we care about.

P.S. I do also hope if Linus picks up on this and makes a discussion video about this topic.

@s_k I think you haven't seen my stupid stero setup.

BTW the Phillps DVD player is dead 😞
The inputs are RCA thought a 3 port switch inputted into the tascam 112b which has a 3way splitter to output for the recording of the technics M85 mk2, altec lansing speakers and the sony boom box which those speakers remounted to a tool pegboard.
