Hello. I am posting here due to the BAD experience I have with system76 so far and I wanted to share with others

I am a Linux user, and I have used PopOS for awhile and liked it. I am in the market for a new laptop, so I decided I would support them - and I speced out a Serval WS for ~2500 ($2700 after tax and etc). The estimated build time is a business week or two, so I paid an additional $60 to have expedited assembly (3 business day guarantee). You also pay for shipping, so I paid 40 for shipping, 60 for expedited assembly. I ordered on a friday, and it shipped on tuesday. Arrived on thursday (yesterday).

I purchased a 4k screen (additional like 400 from the base price) and I received a 1440p display on my 'custom built' machine. Frustrating, considering I just spent $2700 on a computer.. I expect it to be correct the first time. I submit a support ticket, and give them a call. I am told from Stetson - an employee there, that I will have to ship my machine back, and once they have it, they will "expedite" shipping me a new one. Sounds to me like its no big deal. However I just paid a lot, and this is a $240 mistake. I paid for a higher spec - I want it.

He follows up with me in email to my ticket, saying that someone from the hardware team will be in touch shortly. I respond to that email basically saying thanks, and I would like to get this process going quickly, as I need this computer and I just spent a small fortune to purchase it, and for a company that isn't huge and has a reputation of good customer service, I would hope that this gets addressed rather quickly and promptly.

I received a new email (today - one day later) from Jordi - again not sure what department - that they will setup an RMA request and that could take a business day. Today being a friday, I likely won't hear back until monday, but I understand that, although frustrating that since this is THEIR mistake, and that it's not being pushed to the top of the pile.

However Jordi's email is about a RMA RETURN. I have specifically stated in both my email and over the phone to Stetson that I want a correctly configured system to be shipped to me. I now have responded asking if that is the case or what the actual deal is.

Am I wrong for wanting to have some form of compensation either? I'm hoping they prep the system and essentially overnight it to me once I have put this one in the mail OR once they have it in their hands. Is wrong of me to expect this for such a premium product? It doesn't seem they will do that. Quite a shame really.

Overall, I'm disappointed. Angry, but more disappointed and bummed about the whole situation. I purchased this computer for work, as my other one was on its last legs, and now I'm going to have to jump through several hoops, and nobody over at system76 seems to give a shit frankly that they messed this up. No apology, just a "we understand you're not happy with your product" type of response. Seems auto-generated than from a real human, or a copy-pasta. It's a real shame because this laptop is actually pretty nice and I'm mostly happy with it - minus the fact that I didn't get what I paid for. Literally.

TLDR: system76 sent me a computer under the spec that I purchased, and they don't really seem to give a shit that they inconvenienced me, and I'm going to have to jump through hoops to get it fixed. I think that is ridiculous since this isn't a mega corp like a dell/lenovo/razer etc.

UPDATE: I managed to get on the phone with them again. They filed my claim wrong, they put it in for a return, even though I had requested a replacement with the right spec. They had to create a new ticket. They said they will work on shipping it to me ASAP but have to clear it with their team lead - and he even agreed that something needs to be done about express assembly that I paid for and was all for nothing since it was the wrong thing.

I admittedly am frustrated and a little impatient because I did the express assembly and everything for a reason, and now it's my time that's lost because I have to deal with this. I understand mistakes happen, but I don't think I'm being too ridiculous.

Also - I didn't pay $240 for RMA. That's the difference in spec from the 1440p config and 4k config.

i got my first car. A 2006 fiat panda with less than 42k miles. It had every single little bit of documentation that came with the car. Even the accessory booklet. It’s green and it came with a U2 album. It's a 1.1 litre Active model, apparently 4 cylinder 8 valve engine, thought it was 3 . It only makes 50 something HP according to the spec sheets but it hasn't been a problem, I've driven it home 15-16 miles 40-50mph and it doesn't feel particularly slow. I love the car to bits.

I haven't ever used wall-mount. But I would go with actual shelf instead of something else. Ofc there is the DIY route, but I don't see much more worth than WOW-factor. The issue with any wall-mount is how heavy your PC is.

You don't have side vents in that case, so any "issues" with option 1 would be about cleaning things or if you ever need to adjust monitor.

I would suggest option 4, floor. Only problem with this would be if you have hairy pets or clean the room very rarely. Otherwise there are no issues (I've had my case on floor or hanging under the table for over 10 years). As you are using thick carpet, you need something to prop it up. Cheap option would be couple pieces of wood or brick. Bit more expensive would be getting some mount/stand for the case. Or even make one yourself (what I did recently).

    Hey Everyone,

My studio is now part of our bedroom since we decided to make more kids so I need some help with the configuration, specifically the PC Tower.  I’ve found 3 possible locations (illustrated below).  I could easily put the tower on a small shelf behind the desk a foot or so off the floor but know that’s not ideal so guessing all 3 of these options below are better.  I would really appreciate the communities suggestions and advice!  I’m also open to anything else you may have in mind.  Mounting the PC on the wall crosses my mind too but not familiar with what mounts or shelf’s are best.

    Thanks in advance.

Option #1 (Behind Monitor):  Concern here would be heat but this keeps it on the desk and the easiest to cable manage.  Just hate the cluttered look.

Option #2 (Lower Clothes Rack Shelf): I feel like here I have to position it the way it’s shown in the picture exhausting to the right towards the desk.  Then slide clothes all the way to the left when in use so it has air to take in from the front.  Hate not seeing the PC but a clean look and optimal airflow are most important.   Would flipping the case around and exhausting towards the shirts be any worse or better?

Option #3 (Top Clothes Rack Shelf):  I loved the look of this until I got it up there and realized the PSU cable didn’t reach the power outlet so that’s why you see a power strip temporarily stuck underneath.  I moved my modem and router up there and the tower so the PSU cable would reach but then realized I had an issue with the USB-C cable to the rodecaster, keyboard, and mouse.  I’m sure I could find a different cable for the mixer and then of course go wireless for keyboard and mouse to fix that issue.  Cord managing this is going to be the hardest part I would imagine.

Yvonne donated her $5000 that was for her AMD upgrade to BC Children Hospital, according to the video. But then when there are people on the Internet critisizing them for bragging about this donation, I would understand when they dont this kind of things often in public. Besides, they are not obligated to.

RoseLuck462 reacted to Mensatisch42 in WAN Show: Who voted for well received EU-"laws"?
So after @LinusTech came up with the question who is driving the changes, I got curious who voted for these "laws":

    A small side note:
The german parliament (Bundestag) has a nice overview on their website that shows how the MPs/Parties voted.
I expected to find something similar for the EU Parliament, but I couldn't find anything. (Maybe it's somewhere on their page and I just missed it?)

But after a bit of looking around, I found howtheyvote.eu.
And the majorities for these "laws" are quite surprising:
Digital Markets Act: 91% voted for this regulation (https://howtheyvote.eu/votes/8017)
    Digital Services Act: 87% (https://howtheyvote.eu/votes/8016)
Radio Equipment Directive (the "law" that enforces USB C on phones): 97% (https://howtheyvote.eu/votes/8765)

One last note: The Parliament is not the only part of the legislative process and the Commission (more or less the government) and the Council of the European Union (representation of the member states) are responsible as well.
