because to say that that thing is their best prototype is a joke. Those fins won't do shiet with that design. Do you guys know what fluid dynamics and heat transfer is? No, you don't. That's why you need somebody else to tell you what to think

Finally someone that uses his brain. What the hell is happening, why is everybody so avid to discredit Linus for such an at most average performing product? I would add that Linus was composed and didn't shit on this cooler like he could've done, and he could rightfully do so. If this shitstorm would've been about accuracy, maybe I could understand, cuz the community would've wanted LTT to grow... But this is not even about Linus anymore, it's about justice. WHAT JUSTICE?! Billet made a post about refusing Linus's offer to get back their "best prototype" =)))). On what grounds? On the grounds of the integrity of the cooler (That maybe it doesn't work anymore =))))). Sure Billet, take the moneyz (sum which they refused to disclose) and play the victim card

P.S: I made an account just because people are unsubscribing and I also subscribed to floatplane.

Just to clarify, I want to emphasize that I am not the individual who received the prototype, and I have no intention of sharing these drawings with anyone, regardless of the purpose. I undertook this project purely for entertainment, as I haven't utilized Fusion 360 in quite a few months and wanted to refresh my skills.

The measurements I've taken are remarkably close (within approximately 0.1mm) when compared to the drawings supplied by Billet Labs on their website, as well as in relation to the LGA 1700/3090 Ti specifications.

If there's any genuine concern about the possibility of a competitor of Billet Labs obtaining the prototype and creating imitation kits, rest assured that such concerns are unnecessary. Replicating this product is feasible for any bored electrical engineer in just three hours, all while listening to a podcast and taking two pizza breaks. It's highly unlikely that any large-scale manufacturer would pursue replicating this product, not due to its lack of quality, but rather because it's not aligned with their market strategy. Just as Toyota refrains from creating drag racing cars, this cooler falls into a similar category. The manufacturing process for this cooler would demand numerous machine hours and a significant amount of materials. It's plausible that producing this cooler is more cost-effective for Billet Labs compared to a larger manufacturer. The unique "handcrafted" nature of this cooler, coupled with the extensive machine hours required, renders a traditional production line largely ineffective.

Thing with LMG is, they are trying to put too many hats on each product. Is there a market for videos aimed at the casual user? Yes. Is there a market for videos that gives the most complete level of testing? Also yes.

They are trying to sprinkle tech know how on their videos when is clearly lacking technical knowledge/don't have the time to deep dive into it. Like their recent video on the mic; they really don't know about mic to even to understand what the underlying tech is in it, just look at the comments (in amongst the comments on Linus' ethics). But one should ask, did they even need to do it? Most streamers do not need to Shure-grade gear, but will actually care about general usability. The video is perfectly viable without needing to go technical stuff the writers don't have knowledge of.

LMG is a privately held company. They can slow down as much as their expenditure allows.

Let’s just hope that this year alone was just super stressful (and we just had LTX) as he was going to be stepping down as CEO.

Hopefully going forward the new CEO will make the right changes such as allowing more time for better videos.

Is the business model. That's why they are hiring like crazy. 30 videos a week means at least 50 sponsor spots. That's what pay the bills.

But... more content... more possible errors. That's basically inevitable, and they need more quality control for that. Linus already addressed this many times, and is one of the reasons they are hiring so much people.

I don't work for LMG so all I can do is try to understand from an outsider's perspective. I imagine the cadence they've chosen is likely tied to advertising contracts. So while they have, as GN stated, created this problem themselves... they may be bound to a certain frequency in order to meet certain advertising agreements with sponsors. I understand this is also a problem they created for themselves but once an agreement has been made, it is no longer a matter of just saying "okay, we're going to slow down." They would need to first rework agreements.

Again, I don't work for LMG so this may be all hogwash. I'm just thinking out loud. I agree with those who are suggesting the frequency is too high, though. When you have LMG staff (including Linus himself) on camera all echoing the same thing, I think it's fair to say the cadence is definitely an issue. The fact that they all admit this and yet Linus made it clear no changes were planned in his response yesterday tells me there must be a reason for that.

During the employee video all of them complained about the shear amount of videos being made if this doesn’t change maybe a union is the only way to go. And Linus stepping down is clearly a good thing as it appears he is overburdened with filming and managing the company if auctioning the bilet water block was able to happen.

Just a totally subjective opinion.  They sit somewhere between a smartphone and watch, and to me, they feel eclipsed by both.  A phone has far more utility.  A traditional watch is more convenience.

With a smart watch, the time it takes to navigate through the OS on a tiny screen, you could've already done the same via your smartphone.  And traditional watches don't need to be charged every few days.

build an intel setup. if you want something dualsocket there's TONS of Xeon systems with supermicro mobo's for next to nothing on ebay.

keep in mind to check the power connectors on those motherboards, since many are made for servers. you might also need some extra fans on things like the chipset heatsink, since again those boards are designed for servers where they get tons of airflow.

Got some Sony XM3 for drowning out PC/air-con noise when gaming. Decided to get the DT 1990 Pro to use when just listening to music and don't need noise-cancelling. Love them.
