  1. Hey everyone I just wanted to check back in. Performance is still looking good. I even got my hands on a copy of The Witcher 3 and I can run that at low/medium 1080p locked to 30 FPS. That game is awesome by the way. I did have one question though. My overclock. I had to drop it from 4.3GHz to 4.1 because it just wasn't as stable as I thought. Right now I have it at 4.1GHz at 1.425v. Temps don't go above 62 according to CoreTemp. I've gotten 24 hours stable on Prime95. So my question: Are those temps ok for this APU? Is that voltage ok? Is 24 hours enough to claim stability now?
  2. Well, yeah, no one's arguing that. The OP set the rules that he wants new only though. I'm just following those rules I'm not gonna be that guy that tries to convince him otherwise.
  3. Depends. The GPU in the A6/A8 is definitely faster (see the Witcher 3 in the video below). The CPU is better though. So for CPU bound games the 200GE wins and for GPU bound the A6/A8 wins
  4. If you have to buy new, I just made a build myself very similar to this! See my videos here: Here's another video that shows performance in many more games (this one is not mine): I would get the B450 motherboard over the A320 because on the A320 you can not overclock.
  5. probably correct yeah. I went with the MSI B450M Pro-M2 because it was cheaper by a few dollars. This was the final build I used. The changes include the power supply, motherboard, and SSD. Total came to $205 exact, no tax. Luckily my Dad let me get the parts that needed a mail in rebate, he floated me the money. The price of the processor has since gone up by a dollar and 6 cents: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant Type Item Price CPU AMD - A6-9500 3.5 GHz Dual-Core Processor $46.11 @ Amazon Motherboard MSI - B450M PRO-M2 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard $59.99 @ Newegg Memory Crucial - Ballistix Tactical 4 GB (1 x 4 GB) DDR4-2666 Memory $24.99 @ Amazon Memory Crucial - Ballistix Tactical 4 GB (1 x 4 GB) DDR4-2666 Memory $24.99 @ Amazon Storage Patriot - Burst 240 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive $29.99 @ Newegg Business Power Supply Corsair - CX (2017) 450 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply $19.99 @ Newegg Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total (before mail-in rebates) $236.06 Mail-in rebates -$30.00 Total $206.06 Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-03-01 04:04 EST-0500
  6. Also, those are the only games I care about running, which was also in my OP.
  7. I didn't not listen to anyone. No one gave me any alternatives with my requirements. I gave my requirements which was a strict $205 budget and no used parts. I wound up not being allowed to use any used parts despite the excellent arguments made here. And I have no way to save up unless I wait until next birthday (or maybe Hanukkah) because I have no income or allowance. So what other choice did I have?
  8. Also @lee32uk @Eastman51 we are on Linus forums. That makes Linus this forums god. The forum god himself called this piracy as well. See his video Read the video description as well. Linus references that it is pirating and asks if Microsoft could sue them.
  9. @lee32uk @Eastman51 You guys realize @jerubedo is right, right? We actually just studied this very case in the criminal justice section of our social studies class: the use of Windows 10 without activation. We defined it as piracy and it was our goal to debate the ethicality of it. It wasn't even a question weather it was piracy or not. The teacher just said that it was. Plus he referenced an actual law firm and standardised dictionaries/books, and sections of legal code. Based on those oficial definitions and the sections and the EULA I'd say its without a doubt piracy.
  10. Here are the videos as promised. The FPS counter is in the top right for both. Captured with FRAPS. Running Windows 7 Ultimate. Here's Fortnite: Here's LoL: @fasauceome @suchamoneypit @DesolationGod @CharminUltraStrong @jerubedo @Herman Mcpootis @Turtle Rig I think these are pretty decent results no?
  11. Just to update everyone, I did go for my original build (minus the tower) and I got everything in the mail today. I assembled everything on a test bench and hooked it up to a monitor we had laying around downstairs along with a basic mouse and keyboard (although I really do want a new mouse, this one has a ball in it). Everything is working well so far. I'm pretty happy with the gaming performance in LoL and Fortnite is okay, playable. I'll post a performance video shortly as a followup to the followup.
  12. I really like that first build especially because of that freesync monitor. Plus 16GB RAM *thumbs up*
  13. Yeah he's like that with everything. He won't buy used hardware, electronics, cars, furniture, anything. There's always a reason. For furniture it's, "You never know whose ass sweat and semen has been on it." For cars it's, "You never know if it's been in a fender bender that went unreported or if it's been in the hands of some teen who constantly revs the engine or neglects maintenance." It's just always something.
  14. Unfortunately I'm not allowed to use used parts. But thank you!
  15. I agree with this 100%!! I do know he's not worried about getting failed components out of the box. He's worried about premature failures a few months out from "abuse." But as you poined out that doesn't really mean much and components can fail abuse or no. I'll run this post by him to see if it changes his mind but I have a feeling I'll get the usual "You need to learn the meaning of the word no. Do you not understand the N or the O?" or the "That's fine but still no because I said so!"
  16. So I did try making this argument today with him, and his response was, "The cryptocurrency mining scenario was just one example for not getting a used GPU. There's also numerous other scenarios. These used machines may have been used as a server node, which can hammer all equipment pretty hard. A used machine could have been in the hands of overclocking enthusiasts (or worse overclocking amateurs who have degraded the CPU with overkill voltages for extended periods of time). They may have been used for 24/7 Folding@Home or SETI@Home, or they may have just been running 24/7 in some business filled with dirt, grime, and dust that may or may not have been chocking the components to death." I didn't have a comeback so I guess that's taht unless you have a comeback??
  17. Unfortunately "saving up" that extra $70 basically means waiting until next birthday. I'm not yet at a legal age to work and I don't have an allowance. That's why my OP said that it was a strict budget. I'm "hell bent" on getting the best thing I can for my needs at that specific price point ($205) using only new parts, as is my requirement. So if you or anyone else has any better ideas I'm all ears!
  18. In thinking everything over, I agree with this full heartedly. How about this? PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant Type Item Price CPU AMD - A6-9500 3.5 GHz Dual-Core Processor $46.40 @ Amazon Motherboard Asus - PRIME A320M-K Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard $62.58 @ Amazon Memory Patriot - Signature Line 4 GB (1 x 4 GB) DDR4-2400 Memory $24.99 @ Amazon Memory Patriot - Signature Line 4 GB (1 x 4 GB) DDR4-2400 Memory $24.99 @ Amazon Storage Kingston - A400 120 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive $19.99 @ Amazon Power Supply Apevia - 450 W ATX Power Supply $22.99 @ Amazon Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total $201.94 Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-02-25 16:19 EST-0500 Yes, I cut out the tower for the extra RAM stick. I figure I can get a tower later on. My dad has several test benches so I can borrow one and load my components onto it for the time being.
  19. That sounds like good advie, so thank you. When I win, though, I'll at least be able to come back with "well this poor 'kid' without a GPU still beat your ass" lol
  20. THAT'S all I want for my Birthday and in my eyes it's money well spent!
  21. I could use a friend's PC yes. But the whole point is that I want to do this on something of my own. I won't be known as the "poor guy without his own PC" anymore. They also call me Kenny pretty often (South Park reference, he's a poor guy on the show) . So it's much more than just a Fortnite spat. I'm going to build what I can with my own 2 hands, download the games, run them on what I built, and show everyone that they're WRONG.
  22. Yeah, figured so. I don't wanna wait too long. I'm looking to show up this bully who said that he'd kcik my ass in any games of my choice because I'm "too poor to have had anything nice enough to game on so I have no idea what I'm doing." I do know what I'm doing and his ass will be the one kicked. I've plkayed Fortnite and LoL at friends' houses. Already 5 of my friends want to watch this match, and some other people in my class want to see it streamed as well (I wouldn't be doing the streaming though) so it's kind of high stakes.
  23. Yeah, I agree with that. I was trying to find 2x 2GB sticks, but I don't seem to find them anywhere. I guess DDR4 starts at 4GB Dimms?
