  1. ive always personaly seen it as a person by person thing, and situational, like obviously if i refused to call Emily by her chosen name and called her by her old name that is deadnaming 100% but as stated its saying goodbye to the old and pointing out the new, and as i said on another post it can help people who might not be 100% active in the forum find out what happened to "anthony" and who this Emily is (see the latest video on LTT) and as far as I know nothing has been said on the LTT channel about the change (unless it was mentioned on the mac world channel or whatever its called or in a podcast episode)
  2. as a point to your "deleting deadname" i think personally it should stay for 2 reasons. 1. its actually saying goodbye to the deadname 2. it can help people (like me) who didnt realise she changed her name and came out find out where "athony" went and who Emily is (looking at the apple games porting video i was like "wait Emily looks familiar" and thus ended up here after searching for the deadname
  3. how many normal cases has the PSU in a section behind the motherboard tray?
  4. there are two styles of main line cases, the standard single chamber case where most things are on the same side and then we have the dual chamber, which has easier cable management (you dont have to do much) but its a chonky case, so what if there was a case that had the ability to hide SSD/HDD with the PSU on one side with plenty of room for lazy cable management and yet had the benefit of not being so chonky? thats where this concept comes into play, a slim(er) dual chamber case, Like this (back of case) (orange is GPU, white is backplate, green is motherboard, red is power supply, and the glass is a gap meant for fans each block=1cm all dimensions are rounded up to the nearest CM) as a note the reason i used minecraft as a way to design it is 1. I dont know where to start with 3d software, 2. im bad at drawing 3. i had minecraft installed on my pc cause who doesnt. as a note the motherboard that i based it off is an mATX board and using the fractal design core 1100 as the base idea for the case, mainly for the measurements, also as a point the PSU is against the motherboard tray, making this design i can actually see why cases rarely deviate from anything else and even when they do at the core they are still the same, this is only revision 1 and I havent figured out how I am going to put drives in (as when i initially thought of it i was thinking for myself and my set up has a 500gb ssd and a 2tb hdd, mostly cause they were cheaper at the time of buying and as an average joe do you really need to have an NVME drive? if you want to see revision 1 of this case you can Right here (google drive link) if/when I do a revision 2 I'll edit this post or add a reply to it so feel free to keep an eye on this thread
  5. I dont know exactly cause someone put it in a new case with gaming components but that seems right, im assuming that thats with bios update
  6. My friend is looking at a new PC, he does already have a few bits and pieces of hardware and as per the norm when your on a tight budget we turned to facebook marketplace and found a pretty decent cheap system, (for what the parts are) MOBO:HP MS-7957 1.0 LGA1151 CPU: Intel Core i3-6100 Quad Core 3.7 GHZ RAM: 16 GB DDR4 GPU: EVGA NVIDIA GT740 2GB Superclocked GDDR5 STORAGE: 120GB SSD + 320 GB HDD For games and etc. POWER SUPPLY : Evo labs power supply - 750w Now I have been on AMD side since the Ryzen 5 2400G so I know very little about using/building on intels side of things, the one thing I DO know is you cant easily just get a same socket CPU for the board cause intel being intel, wanting to know if anyone knows what CPUs I could use to replace the i3 in the system?
  7. Im going to start by saying, dont bother telling me "its outdated" or "get new system" cause your just a jerk, This (builds.gg) is the system im having the problem with, BIOS version 1.3.0 OS windows 10 64 bit (although potentially that has no reason to cause the problem IDK) so the problem comes when doing a cold boot, (this is why i dont think the OS is the matter) it powers on normall does the first beep to indicate everythings working then freezes, i have tried unplugging drives, used on board graphics, unplugged anything that isnt needed, always freezes on the same spot a bit after the ram check, pressing crtl+alt+delete or getting a button on the reset switch and hitting that allows it to boot normally, but im wondering if anyone knows a way to be able to just power on then send it into windows without crtl alt deleting it
  8. Hey i didnt know the best place to contact so i thought i would try here, I have an idea for a video for my own YouTube channel that I am wanting to work on, I am just wanting to know if it would be possible to use one of the LTT videos in my video as part of the demonstration of the app that I am talking about, if not then could you direct me to some footage that is free to use that has talking on screen
  9. TIL, still that wont stop me from doing bodge
  10. the one thing that put me off doing a linux based NAS thing was cause all systems on my network are windows systems and im not sure how good the cross talk it between linux and windows, plus im a bodger so
  11. Heres a fun idea, a bodge home made NAS. Using older hardware (like talking things you can only find on facebook marketplace/ebay or have laying around from years of upgrading (except for drives maybe)) and showing different ways you can turn that into a network storage system (use different tools including Windows itself)
  12. cant you even do a bodge nas style thing with windows and have it set up a lot quicker?
  13. the fact you went from 1 gen to the next gen the moment it dropped shows off a case of i need the newest thing, which that attitude comes hand in hand with the cry baby bitches who flip when they lose up to 10 fps when there in the 200, if it was almost half there frames going then they can complain but seriously, 10 frames?
  14. what really gets my goat up is when you see the enthusiasts with the highest end specs complain about getting fps drops of up to 10 which at the frame rates there at it seems as though the only way you could tell is if you had an FPS counter up
  15. no offence but i find people like you so annoying when it comes to computer parts, needing the newest things, thats actually one reason why im doing what i am doing with an old dell vostro tower. (check my profile plus ill put a builds.gg link there too later)
  16. Over the past few months I have been working on getting some old computer parts together (around $120 worth of old computer parts together) for the purpose of proving a point, and within the next month the journey is going to be coming to an end, if you wanna see what im on about then feel free to head over to my tech youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoYB_tOUBnVf4eobhPuI_BQ

  17. in my defence i was already typing before i saw your comment
  18. Lets start with CPU: Anything quad core or higher is good for gaming, personally for you I would suggest a 2400g or a 3400g from AMD (this also takes care of graphics but ill still address that later For the motherboard this is technically the hardest component to choose cause you have Intel and AMD then you have to worry about if the CPU you bought will work out the box, and thats before thinking about the technologies it has on it (pcie gen 4, m.2, overclockability) I would say (including the suggestion I gave about the CPU) go for a B450 board this is what I recently got as an upgrade, its a good board has an m.2 slot 4 ram slots and is ready for ryzen 3rd gen, as a note when ryzen 4th gen comes out (if its on AM4) you will need to do a "bios update" if you want to stick with the board which the way AMD are going they look to be supporting the socket until DDR5 comes out. Next up is RAM I honestly wouldn't suggest less than 8gb of ram, on ryzen you want good speed (3000mhz is a bit on the low side but -should- be good) if you go with an APU (which is the style of cpu i suggested at the first point) I would suggest going with 16gb as the OS and GPU will be sharing the ram (and personally i dont like mix and matching capacities) Speaking of GPU if you didnt go with an APU then this does matter (especially if you go AMD as they don't do graphics on the chip) any GPU works with any CPU its finding the best match up for your CPU, a lot of people will probibally say rtx2060 super or that new AMD card, personally I would say 1660super (or whatever its called) or a rx580/590 the case is MOSTLY cosmetic however a case with good airflow is ideal, there are some cheap ass cases that are good for this but others that are not so be careful. Power supply is the "spine" of the system so to speak, a lot of people will say go double the capacity of your system (this also adds upgradeability) but honestly if your system looks to need 300w you can go 450w, any form of modular is nice but not needed (seriously it does make it all look good in the end and makes cable management easier but if you lose a cable you might have to go to cable mod or the manufacturer to get a replacement) Storage again this is partially personal preference here, 250gb 2.5 SATA ssd for boot (technically you can go as low as windows needs but you would need to install everything on a seperate drive) and at least 1tb hdd, if you can afford it go 2tb cause you can fit games and other files on there to make things a lot easier, although i had 300 games installed at once on 2tb and just about filled it up (1.8tb) one big thing that i will suggest is use pc part picker to help you out, this is one thing that i will say the verge did suggest right cause they can tell you compatability problems, they can also point out if you might need a bios update and can help you save money if you are willing to go to several venders instead of just one. the last thing im gonna say is cooling, if you go intel YOU WILL NEED A CPU COOLER as the stock one intel ships is hot garbage (litterally) if you dont plan on overclocking on AMD then you can use stock, (you can get a slight overclock on AMD but for a newbie i wouldnt recommend it)
  19. couldnt you have gone to the manufacturers website or used cable mod? or was that not an option at the time
  20. i looked at the MSI version of the card on ebay and found $100 being the cheapest
  21. I personally make it a rule to never buy adapters full stop, cause thats another point of failier
  22. This can be anything from an RGB ssd to a case and all the silly little peripherals inbetween (controllers, adapters, docks all count)
