ask half of the forum mod team including Linus and Luke.
The original LTT Conglomerate thread went on for 200+ pages and there were other threads as well which got burried while this subforum didn't exist, so we got this.

Just scroll down and check the previous topics, this gets asked once a week
I suggest you do some actual research into game development
We were the 2 biggest organisation in the game until mass invites was created now we are the 6 (we refused to go asking for invites) a large portion of the community got behind it and this was needed, Discord has kinda taken over simply because people want to chat.

But it's still the only game that LTT has organised weekly meet ups, we are currently 5 in the org leaderboards for battle royal (largely due to @Corwin111 and his training) when 3.0 comes out i should think it'll get busy again as it does, it's always quiet during small patch iterations.

Interrogative sentences are punctuated with a question mark. Unless it is a rhetorical question, which yours isn't. Because it has a very firm answer.

No - we can not call it dead, quite the opposite. What you call " semi-working but mostly broken gameplay features that were never suppose to be in the game" are features that are very much part of the game and are getting less and less broken as the Alpha progresses.

Even though it is a crowd-funded indie endeavor, Star Citizen has grown into the largest and most ambitious gaming project in history. And I say this with no hyperbole. There has literally not been a game developed on this scale. Ever. As such, it will take time to develop. So far it is well within the regular development cycle of a normal game and has actually taken much LESS time than a number of popular and less ambitious AAA titles.

    Here are some for perspective:

Dragon Age: Origins - 5 years
    Half Life 2 - 5 years
    Morrowind - 6 years
    Fallout 3 - 6 years
    L.A. Noire - 7 years
Star Craft 2: Wings of Liberty - 7 years
    Spore - 8 years
    Team Fortress 2 - 9 Years
    Prey - 11 years
    Diablo III - 11 years

So you tell me. Can we call it dead yet?

If they abandoned the project, then took the money and ran then yes it would be a scam. Games take time to make (Though Digital Homicide begs to differ) and if you actually looked at the frequent updates as shown on their Youtube channel then you would see why it is taking so long.

It's one of the most ambitious games to date. It takes time and effort to make something great and isn't done over night. Ah, who am I kidding? You're probably just a troll.

I read on the Star Citizen forums that Gamestar was using the names Squadron 42 and Star citizen interchangeably and didn't understand that they are two separate releases. Squadron 42 is still expected between 4Q2016 and 1Q2017.

There is nothing wrong with skepticism. It is the default position of an honest mind. Hovever, a skeptic's critical approach is objective. It does not mean denying claims left and right until they meet your personal standards of evidence, but rather - careful investigation of the available data to evaluate a claim's objective truth value.

To that effect, you may want to start with what is currently available. There is currently a free fly promotional period in effect, until October 30th. Everyone gets to play the current live Alpha for free, here.

Furthermore, CIG publish a weekly update show on Youtube, called Around The Verse, which includes interviews and footage, regarding everything that is being worked on. Going through a few episodes, would also be helpful for a start. You can find the latest season three of ATV here.

As for their development cycle, it has in fact been steadier and, so far, much shorter than a great many AAA games. The only difference is that nobody ever got to see what was going on behind the scenes of titles like Star Craft 2, Diablo 3, L.A. Noire or Team Fortress 2. People only got and announcement, and maybe a couple of trailers, and then kinda forgot about the title, until it was released... up to 7-9-15 years later.

The fact that CIG are being upfront and honest with their players about every step of the development process, combined with the fact that they are allowing all backers to participate in an alpha test of unprecedented scale, does give the impression of slow development, since the general public, who have never been aware of what developing a game actually looks like, are suddently being bombarded with it, instead of being given the chance to comfortably forget about it until release as usual. In truth - it is actually progressing much quicker than a project of  such magnitude would reasonably be expected to.

CommanderFett reacted to abyss03 in How long has Star Citizen been available?
It has been 'playable' since about 2013 in various different states. Started off with just walking around your hangar looking at your ships as they became available. Then we had arena commander which was dogfighting. About Christmas last year I think star citizen alpha 2.0 dropped which was the first version of the persistent universe. Not too much to do other than repeating missions and flying around but you can make your own fun!

I really enjoy alpha 2.0 right now as every Saturday 9pm bst we have a meet up with all the ltt people who play together (join us on discord if you want! Link in my signature)

Release date unknown. Alpha 3.0 which got announced at gamescom has a estimated release of late this year but their development is prone to delays. Single player is also scheduled for some release next year I think.
