  1. HDD are completely fine if they weren't id have issues with my 970.
  2. So I got a new vega 56, used DDU to remove old nvidia drivers from PC. plugged in vega 56 got a message about CPU temp over heating when booting had to restart a few times before the messsage went, checked speedfan temps are normal. But on first boot with the vega I noticed my start up and load into desktop was a lot slower chrome had issues games were loading slower etc.. went into apex and it was basically unplayable with constant FPS drops and jittering. I didn't mess with any settings as I expect a card that is meant to be better then my GTX 970 (never touched settings on that either) to just work better out of the box. I thought maybe PSU issues as my PSU is about 3-6 years old but its 700w. So i then used DDU removed AMD stuff plugged back in my 970 and at first had similar issues as to what was mentioned above but I pulled everything out again this morning put it back and it was all back to normal apex running smooth no issues at all with slowness on boot.
  3. Bump to see if anyone has a clue? otherwise i'll send the vega back
  4. so i've just used ddu uninstall AMD drivers and put my 970 back in. PC back to normal speeds and Apex running fine. Don't know if my CPU / Mobo or something else is causing a bottle neck or if i've been unlucky and got a faulty unit.
  5. so bit of an odd one nvidias overlay in test game of heroes of the storm had my FPS at 252, loaded test game with new vega and got 140 FPS. however apex had me at 92 with nvidia and vega got to 130 lol. I ran DDU to remove all nvidia stuff before installing vega, i've also not done anything but install the drivers aint messed with any settings. Apart from I turned on my monitors freesync mode not sure what that changes or helps but thought i'd try it. I also seem to now be getting a CPU over temp limit when booting up and my PC seems a lot slower.
  6. planning on upgrading everything at a later date. Is there some optimal guide for undervolting it? I just don't want to break anything.
  7. Won't be held back by any of my other specs? I have an i5 from 2011 lol
  8. So I've not had anything other then a nvidia card for a long long time but recently this deal came up: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-radeon-rx-vega-56-air-boost-oc-8gb-hbm2-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-343-ms.html i thought it was to good to pass on. I'm not sure how much of an improvement the card will be over my GTX970 or if it will be better at all. If not I may consider selling the card to my brother. anyway I digress, as i said its been a while since i used anything other then nvidia i done a quick search yesterday and found people saying that you need to "undervolt" the card to get the best performance? this is all knew to me. typically i get a GPU out of the box put it in my machine and install the latest drivers. Do i need to undervolt it or optimize the card?
  9. ah yeah i get what you're saying. So i guess right now as i'm not experiencing actual issues i should probably just leave it a while maybe till my pc actually starts causing me issues.
  10. thanks for your replies guys. so it is mostly for gaming I mean id like to stream my gameplay if i could, it would allow my brother who moved away abroad to watch me and my other brother game in terms of games I play: Apex / Heroes of the storm / wow rarely / rocket league / dead by daylight / spellbreak / overwatch are my main games right now I don't upgrade my build much, the reason I haven't really upgraded this current build other then putting in the 970 a year or 2 ago is that it runs all the games fine on atleast med settings. I was just hoping to push everything to high or atleast get decent enough FPS on medium that my 144hz monitor actually gets its worth unless i'm completely misunderstanding 144hz monitors lol (you need atleast 144fps in game right?) but like i said mostly mostly gaming and watching a streamer / tv show on my secondary screen right now. I'm just trying to gauge how much of an improvement id see with possibly going down the amd root and upgrading for a new GPU later in the year.
  11. Yeah i'm trying to force myself to wait as in reality I play all the games i have now with no issue, only thing i was thinking was if i upgraded now I could always grab a new CPU come summer and give my old one to my brother. outside of benchmarks do you feel a big improvement in your current set up vs the i5?
  12. Yeah in the UK its £50 more so not sure if worth it. oh so you had a better I5 then me and you upgraded and everything was a lot smoother?
  13. this is actually very true lol. Just want to make sure the £400 upgrade I'm looking at is a substantial upgrade rather then meh lol.
  14. so grabbing say MSI tomahawk b450 would be a good investment if i wanted to upgrade the CPU to the new 3000 later? would it still be good if i went for the new AMD GPU's released later this year?
