The adapter is not the problem
    It's the connector.

what you have on the PSU side has no bearing on it.

OP, just plug it in till it latches, don't torque it, you are gucci.

I have replugged the riser cable and the pcie 8pin expension cables. My card is running stable under normal power load now. However it is still reporting 7000MHz (instead of 7001 MHz lol) Performance is back to normal, is the weird frequenzy report something i should worry about or just ignore it as long as it works? I didnt DDU the driver yet, maybe that would fix the display but if its not necessary i can safe the work as i am currently not interested in the actual memory clock freq.

edit: interestingly it only shows 7000MHz under load, without load it shows more reasonable numbers... (??)

Blai5e reacted to New_Poster_Old_Viewer in Gamers Nexus alleges LMG has insufficient ethics and integrity
I am a long time viewer of LTT, GN, JayzTwoCents, etc.. Been building / using PCs for 20+ years. This whole situation is very embarrassing and shows how sites and the community have changed over time - in my post I'm going to ignore the error reports / corrections and ignore the auction issue of the block and concentrate on just one thing and that's the review of the block....

The billet lab block is a new product, and its a prototype, from watching the video it seems to be designed for advanced users and those that can plan / read - it was clearly meant for specific motherboards and was for a 3090Ti. And yet in the video LTT decides to test the product using a watercooling Noob (they mention this in the first 30 seconds of the video).

Anyone with experience would know that water cooling requires the correct components and planning, I've built many water cooled PCs and there is always a massive planning stage - nothing for example ever lines up (even with a distro plate there is always some component thats in slightly the wrong place and requires bends / adapters). The waterblock for the GPU normally requires many many thermal pads to be cut to the correct size and installed in the right place to ensure correct contact with the components on the GPU - for example EKWB waterblocks normally have a combination of 0.5mm, 1.0mm and 2.0mm thermal pads that all have to go in the right place if you want it to work. Anyone with any experience knows this and prepares / does things properly, a block for a different manufacturer of a card or different version of a card (3090 vs 4090 for example) just isn't going to work.

    So we have:
    - a niche, complex production
    - being installed on the wrong motherboard and the wrong graphics card
    - by someone that has never done water cooling before
    - led by someone (linus) who appears to make jokes about the whole process
    - they cant even get the correct RAM for the board
    - they decide to cut the board heatsinks to make things fit rather than plan the testing properly

    So the questions on this:
    - were they really so under prepared for the review that they couldn't get the right hardware in place to test properly with an experienced builder?
    - or did they set this whole thing up to fail from the start for the entertainment and the views?

My view on the answer... #2 this was a setup from the start for the entertainment value / monetization, LTT / LMG is not a tech review site (focus on the T) it is primarily an entertainment group that focusses on the M (media). To confirm this just watch the WAN show where Linus says he cant justify $500 to review a product properly, how can you trust a company to do a tech review of a product when they don't want to spend the $ to do it properly?

Blai5e reacted to theRealCoalBoi in Gamers Nexus alleges LMG has insufficient ethics and integrity
Let me preface my comment with the fact that I have been an avid viewer of LTT content (including the WAN show) and buyer of LTT merch for the past 8+ years. I have grown up with a love for tech and I owe much of my knowledge and continued love for tech to Linus and his team. And after all this time, this conversation seems important enough that I ought to at least say something.

With all that said, it seems as though too many people are concerned about the mistake regarding the auction of the waterblock. It was a mistake. These things unfortunately happen and it's not helpful to anyone to die on that hill.

I think this situation is so worrying because it seems like Linus is missing the point of Steve's video and his response seems intensely emotional and he has framed it as a personal attack. From an outsider's perspective, and as someone who has never really cared about GN in the past, I think this should be a huge wake-up call for Linus and the management team at LMG.

These are serious issues and Steve has done his duty to report things as they appear. He's not wrong in not taking Linus at his word, because he's been presented with conflicting evidence. An ethical journalist only accepts assertions that are backed up by the facts.

With all that said, I really don't want to alienate anyone in this dialogue. I love this community and all the good that LMG has brought to the table. We're all on the same team, one that values knowledge and truth, and we like to have some laughs along the way.

To @LinusTech: I truly hope that if you see this, that you can understand that I am making this point in an effort to help. I can't even begin to understand the weight of everything between being a public figure, paying the salary for 120+ talented staff, and running a business that embodies so much of your own raw passion, on top of everything else that life throws at you. But in spite of all this, I think it is more than a little bit careless to pin the blame for this heat you're getting on Steve.

The truth is, lately it does seem to be the case that your ethical expectations of LMG have been slowly fading over the past year or so. While the growth of the company may be an explanation, you cannot use it as an excuse without damaging the trust we all have in you. "Trust me, bro" only works when you can show that you learn from your experiences. I really want you to succeed and be the best damn tech bro you can be. So please, take a step back for as long as you need, try to see where your community is coming from, and get the support you need from those around you to get moving in your best direction.

While you don't owe anyone a public WAN Show segment, I am sure you can get a lot of good guidance from Luke and the others around you. You and your team will have to make some tough calls, but you don't want to be the bad guy in this story. It will be 100% worth the tough work and I hope I can be there to see you come out of this to kick some serious tech ass going forward.

@Bouncewasp - had a look on EK's webshop and 90° EK-Quantum Torque fittings in Black Nickel is shown as "out of stock". They were recently on a 20% discount so that might be the reason. It's the same for the 45° fitting albeit they still show they are currently in stock. Note: the EK-Quantum Torque Micro Rotary 90° - Black Nickel (which is a fairly recent product) is classified End-of-Life but the other Black Nickel Torque fittings aren't.

Blai5e reacted to Sir Beregond in Doing my first Hardline build! What are some common pitfalls?
    Few things.

LTT and JayzTwoCents often do a good job showing builds, but very rarely talk about actual loop preparation/part cleaning etc. It often looks like they just take rads and blocks out of the box and install it. Don't do that. Be sure you are properly cleaning new radiators, blocks, etc. Radiators especially are quite dirty out of the box and you don't want all that crap in your loop.

Secondly, just because EK sponsors all their videos, doesn't mean they are "the best" like so many think. They perform decent enough, but often are much more expensive than equally or better performing parts from competitors. I would also say they just generally have a lot of quality control issues too in my experience over the past 11 years watercooling myself.

Coolant...stick with a clear premix. Opaques are never worth it, especially if this is your first time. Sure they look cool at first, but easily turn into a maintenance nightmare.

With that out of the way...

Also make sure you properly figure out airflow as well. So many people end up hotboxing their rigs, especially O11-D builders, because they don't properly figure out airflow to optimize performance, often sacrificing quite a bit for "it looks cool".

And now a question for you, you asked about hard tubing, but I didn't see you mention what kind. Are you using Acrylic, PMMA, or PETG? Depending on what you go with will determine what the best tools are for you to use. Regardless you will always need a heat gun, and a silicon insert.

Any Corsair PSU that uses a TYPE 4 PCIE cable is compatible. And before you ask, Corsair has specified that this cable is capable of delivering 600W via the dual PSU-side connections so the Founders RTX 4080 maximum of 450W (directly from the PSU) is well within specification.

As for the capacitors... I have a water-cooled EVGA 3090 FTW3 Ultra (bought within 1 week of launch) with the 500W VBIOS using 3 x CableMod Corsair TYPE 4 PCIE 8-pin Pro-series cables which don't have inline capacitors connected to a HX1200i that has presented zero issues. Additionally, my main machine has a water-cooled ASUS TUF 4090 OC (again, bought near launch) that has a 600W VBIOS using the CableMod 12VHPWR to 4 x PCIE Corsair TYPE 4 Pro-series cable (again, no inline capacitors) connected to an AX1200i without any issues.

I have yet to use a riser cable so I think that may be the issue. The riser cable that is supposedly 4.0 came from Thorzone as part of their Mjolnir case. I tried another 3.0 riser that came with a Meshilicious case but that did not seem to work either. I have one more riser cable that is 3.0 but I do not know the manufacturer. I may try a LINKUP if the gpu does end up working in the PCIE slot on the mobo. I attached pictures of the 4.0 riser cable and of the EVGA response.

Really? I've had a number of EVGA cards (including an EK-blocked 3090 FTW3 Ultra) and never had an issue with riser cables, be-they GEN 3 or Gen 4. I'm a bit of an advocate of "you get what you paid for" and only use LINKUP riser cables and frankly; there are some GEN 4 cables out in the wild that don't cut the mustard. Flakey cables would be more to blame rather than the AIB of the GPU being EVGA (I've been a member of the EVGA forums since 2005 and have never seen an official stance by EVGA that their cards don't play nicely with riser cables).

@Banjoko - regarding the "no signal" on your monitor. You have the monitor cable plugged into your motherboard, not the GPU. The 5800X3D doesn't have integrated graphics, you need to be using your dedicated graphics card.

@JT0051 - just make sure you fully seat the 12HPWR to 4 x PCIE adapter into your graphics card. As you are using the adapter, plug it in before installing the GPU into your case so you can check it is seated correctly. I use a CableMod 12HPWR to 4x PCIE (Corsair Type 4) native cable and I had it plugged in at the GPU end before I installed the GPU into my case (vertically mounted). The adapter that came with my ASUS TUF 4090 OC is still sealed in the retail box.

A higher wattage psu will be less efficient at very low loads ex 2-5% ... for example let's say your computer idles at 30w or so, and you leave it like that over night.
The 1000w psu may only be 60% efficient, while a 550-650w psu may be 75-80% efficient.
Of course that translates in very little extra power wasted, like maybe a few dollars if you leave the pc running idle each night all year, so it's not really a big deal.
