Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a very nice game but it's a 2-3h complete walkthrough.
Long Dark was free on Epic a while ago, so maybe you or someone from your close friends already owns it. Am currently playing through this one myself (story mode) and I'd say it's a good game, but not really the 'journey' type.
Everybody's Gone to the Rapture is apparently reeeally short as well.
As for the other ones I have no idea.

What do you think about adding Return of the Obra Dinn to the list of potential candidates?

Saints Row 3 Remaster is still free today on Epic. Grab it and check it out.
Apart from that maybe MORDHAU or Chivalry to switch up that FPS a little bit?
    Forza, Fallen Order?

As for the ones already mentioned:
Minecraft - seems like a good idea and there's tons of mods but isn't cheap and might be addictive
Celeste - was given out on Epic so if the kid has an online access he might already have it
Ori - IMO very good proposition although he might lose interest as he'll most likely die a lot. On the other hand you can save very often and dying a lot might teach him patience
Cave Story - don't know that one
Thomas was Alone - same as above

    My propositions:
Portal - is cheap, mechanically a puzzle/problem solving game, has decent story and has a co-op
This War of Mine - a lesson of harsh reality, involves micromanagement/planning, very simple mechanically, teaches how devastating war really is without any graphical elements (no gore, blood splashing, etc.)
Valiant Hearts: The Great War - aesthetically pleasing, history served well (just let him know there are 'pickups' to look for), a story he WILL remember (so you will give him a nice childhood memory)
World of Goo - cheap, mechanically simple, problem solving with GREAT physics
Subnautica - calming gameplay (except for leviathans), survival-type (but easily managable), very interesting world, kid would be super interested (I'm playing it right now and both my kids - 9 and 4 - are super into it and I let them watch without a care in the world
Trailmakers - a LEGO-like idea of building vehicles in order to complete challenges with them, brings out creativity
Deep Rock Galactic - be a dwarf, dig for resources solo or in a co-op manner (teams up to 4 players), online, heard the community is great and wholesome
Bard: A tale of Two Sons - haven't played it, heard a lot and from the latter I think it might be a good position but please review on your own before making a purchase
Descenders - hop on a bike and go downhill, as simple as that in randomly generated environments 🙂
Kerbal Space Program - a game about building space ships and sending them into space - should be self explanatory

As a bonus I'd mention Rocket League as it would be the only true multiplayer one from my suggestions but only a mention given it's free and to me it sounds weird to gift something that is free already...

Ultimate Chicken Horse is a great ad hoc game that runs for ~7USD on sales.
Apart from that there's Warframe, CS:GO and planty other free games. Depends what she would like..
Also, Spelunky Classic is free and with Spelunky SD mod you can play online with a friend :).

Soag got a reaction from Goneoff in What "older" game would you like to see remade/remastered?
I've been thinking about it, came up with few titles I enjoyed which are graphically really dated (Heart of Darkness, ONI, NOLF 2, MoH:AA) but then I thought how they done some of the old games I enjoyed with remakes and remasters and I'm not so sure I'd really like to see that... There was always something that didn't seem right to me. And those old games were what I cherished anyways and modern graphics or not they still have a special place in my memory.

On the other hand, a next entry in the franchise done with new technology and especially in the spirit of its predecessors sounds really tempting. HoD 2, ONI 2, NOLF 3 - I'd definitely play those.

Although, now that I think about it there are 3/4 titles I'd like to see updated graphically, but graphically only I believe:
Dark Forces 1 & 2 as one game KOTOR 1 KOTOR 2 And maybe 2 online games I enjoyed A LOT given they would look nicer and had a decent playerbase:
    Wolfenstein: ET S4 League

Plus I support Maury on Trine, was planning to suggest it as well ;).
Drawful 2 is also fun but would require at least one more person.
Castle Crashers is a pretty fun couch co-op.
Human Fall Flat is worth a try. I had a blast in it with friends but she might dislike the controls as they are pretty unique.
Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris is a typical co-op people suggest. Personally haven't fired it up, yet, but am planning to do so in whatever future.
You could also try good old Borderlands 2.
To end the list I have something I haven't played, haven't even bought but seen the game and heard VERY good opinions on it. Simple, low point of entry, fun, nice aesthetics:  Deep Rock Galactic.

    Nope, nothing like that.

If you ask me, your best bet when it comes to new games like this is to wait a bit after release for the usual day 1 bugfixes. Sometimes games go on a sale right on release day too so might save a buck if it does.

That just sums it up, there's no need for me to quote anything more, as you mostly just repeat the same argument (apart from one aspect I will quote additionally).
You're not acting on the basis of facts, but emotions. Not a wise course of action, would you agree?
I doubt it as well, that is not the point I was making. I wanted to give some examples which were completely on the other end of spectrum, yet still somehow possible. Somehow.

It all just boils to one thing: you, as a customer, should evaluate the product and make your conscious decision on the basis of facts you got to know about it. If it's not worth it, you don't get it, end of story. No need to be bitter about it as you act in accordance with principles you set yourself. No need to go 'but I really, really wanted it...'. Accept the fact you didn't want is as much as you thought you did. Cause that's what it is if you're not willing to push your boundaries to the actual point.
    Less hype, more cool-headed calculations.
In case of BG3 right now: act as if it's not released, yet, that's all. Cause that's actually the case.
And remember this: the one selling the product sets the price, not you. In most cases you have no influence on it, so deal with it and move on.

Yeah that was rude. The PS5 gamepad is "shitty". My information is "mystic". There was no need to use those adjectives.
Keep these adjectives and statements like "You will know if I am rude" for use among friends that know you, not in conversations with strangers via text.
It is my call if I take it personally or not.

EDIT: the gamepad may be shitty to you, no need to declare it to a person posting to the community for the first time who is going to buy as PS5 anyway.

Soag got a reaction from Sahl in An advice for fellow PC gamers (display resolution related)
I have a strange feeling you (OP) incorrectly associate boredom of games with resolution.
IMO you're just tired of games at some point, then feel like you would want to get back to them and buy a better monitor hoping it will reignite that drive to gaming. It sure changes something, gives it a new feeling, because you're now in a new, fresh environment and thus you're reinforcing that belief in resolution being the factor while it's only an excuse to start over. Excuse which works but only for some time.
I believe the reason you get bored is different, you just haven't given it a proper analysis.

Soag got a reaction from paddy-stone in Proving to my Mom that online gaming won’t get me hacked
Context is important. Actually how much does she know about computers? How much does she know about hacking? How much do you know about her reasons? How have the two of you been talking about the subject you brought up here? Think about answers for all of those. When you do, proceed with my message.

So, first off, if you want to achieve anything in that matter you need to be calm and collected. I suggest you ask her when she has some time to talk because you would like to discuss one thing. When she does just go and sit somewhere where you can calmly talk. A couch in the living room, a kitchen table, whatever place you can discuss in without any distractions and simply bring the subject. Start off with something like "Mom, remember like you banned me from playing online? It's been really bugging me. I've done some research (and actually do that research! We don't know what's your knowledge on the matter and there's probably lots of stuff you don't know anyways) and I don't think that's probable. Why do you think it's an issue? I would really like to understand". And then proceed with the discussion, I won't be giving you any script for various reasons. It needs to be natural and you need to convey all of the points you might have. Answer her questions and provide arguments. You need to show her that you are reasonable, calm, know more about the subject than she does (show, not brag! She needs to understand that on her own). And most of all:
    1) reiterated - be calm; Don't get excited. When she raises voice you don't raise yours. Use arguments, not emotions.
    2) listen and try to understand her point of view; she might really be concerned (most likely due to limited knowledge on the matter) or that "online aspect" might be just an excuse cause you either get too excited playing it or spend way too much time on it
    3) don't rush her; Even if she doesn't change her opinion during the discussion end with something like "OK, my opinion is different but I understand you point of view, just please think about it some more and get back to me if you change your mind"

As for the actual arguments: explain her how the game is launched, what type of data is stored on either side and which parts of it are being transferred (Psyonix and Steam) - I don't play RL so have no idea if you need to create a Psyonix account or what is stored on their end, explain how every player connects to their server, so there's no direct connection between the players, make sure she knows you never share your both account and vital personal information (like name is fine, but an address or credit card details definitely not), if it's about your game-related behaviour negotiate the terms and promise to make a progress in that area (and actually do, if you easing her approach and hence continue playing). She needs to understand both the technicalities (even if just a little bit - enough for her to be cool with it) and where you're coming from.

If you will need some more detailed help feel free to PM me. But most of all try to learn as much as you can about methods of effective communication. Especially as it's a very useful skill you will find yourself using throughout entirety of your life.

Here’s my problem, I play rocket league on my pc and my mom recently realized that I play with random people online. She then decided to ban me from gaming online because she said that I will get hacked from interacting with others I don’t know. Can you guys please help me with reasons why I won’t get hacked so that I can convince my mom to let me play online again? I’ve given her a few reasons already but she is very stubborn. I’ve told her that Rocket league is a very big game and my information won’t be leaked in any way, and how I never put personal information online. She then said that big companies are getting hacked all of the time to which I said that rocket league hasn’t been hacked before. She said that there’s always a first for everything. Please help me guys, rocket league solo against bots is very boring.
