  1. I would try out https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ , you can add up components, tells you their prices, and if there is also any compatibility issues, and it also tells you the amount of watts needed at the top right for the full system build, with just the I5 9400F added it says it needs 65W, overall when choosing power supplies, go a little higher on the wattage, for example if your system needs 650w, get a 750w PSU or maybe even a 850w. but I dont think your system would need that amount of power.
  2. Hello, recently I have been having major problems with my motherboard and it eventually failed on me, Its a ASUS Maximus XI hero motherboard, I originally had it for 1 month, the Cpu socket died, I then waited 5 weeks for a replacement, and after 4 months the 2nd board has died, both died of different things, The 2nd appears to be a memory related issue so its been sent back to the retailer, The whole process takes a stupidly long time, so I need to buy a short term motherboard that is compatible with my parts, The current motherboard I have/had is a Z390 LGA1511 motherboard, I use a Intel i7 9700k, 3000mhz 16Gb RAM, and an RTX 2070, I have been looking at other motherboards priced at around £100 to £150 but they don't support a 9th generation processor and others don't support 3000mhz of RAM, So I need some help with selecting a motherboard as I need my computer on a delay basis, Below is a list of motherboards that I think may be good replacements for the mean time and if anyone has any other suggestions please feel free to do so, https://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-GAMING-CARBON-Socket-S-ATA/dp/B07HS4S62P/ref=sr_1_2?crid=3LY6BAXLE4P7O&keywords=z390+motherboard&qid=1566835037&s=gateway&sprefix=Z390+%2Caps%2C176&sr=8-2 This is an MSI motherboard I seen thats currently on sale on amazon, looks good but if anyone can over any insight into MSI motherboards it would be great, I previously had a Prebuilt MSI computer and to summarise that experience in one word, its wack. but the motherboards may be different. https://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-Z390-Socket-1151-S-ATA/dp/B07HSCY9R3/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3LY6BAXLE4P7O&keywords=z390+motherboard&qid=1566835648&s=gateway&sprefix=Z390+%2Caps%2C176&sr=8-1 This is also an MSI motherboard, around 50 pounds cheaper than the first option, but I don't know if there is a considerable difference in performance and compatibility for my parts. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-Z390-GAMING-Socket-Express/dp/B07HS4XS93/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3LY6BAXLE4P7O&keywords=z390+motherboard&qid=1566835648&s=gateway&sprefix=Z390+%2Caps%2C176&sr=8-3 Here is a GIGabyte motherboard, I have heard good things about gigabyte and it also has a good price, in the middle of the previous 2. once again if anyone has any suggestions please feel free to offer help, im now slightly cautious of ASUS but I have talked to a few people and their motherboards have lasted years, and ive had 2 pretty pricy ASUS motherboards die in 6 months. so feel free to recommend ASUS motherboards also, once again thanks for the help.
  3. I was going to install the cpu cooler onto the motherboard and then install the motherboard, but if I did that I would not have been able to connect the CPU power cable into the 8 pin connector, the case wouldn't allow me to pull the cpu connector through the top of the case, so I had to compromise, the computer is fully built and works fine, its just the error screen is more of a inconvenience than an annoyance.
  4. Hello, I recently built my first pc, I am using a i7 9700k and I heard it runs quite hot and I didn't feel comfortable using a hydro cooler so I used a Be Quiet dark rock 4 pro cooler which has 2 fans, one just above the DIMM slots and another in the centre of the cooler just above the processor. I used the ASUS Maximus hero XI motherboard and the cpu fan power pins where above a heat sink, this caused me to install the cooler near the end of the build which meant I wasn't able to get the second fan in the centre of the cooler. The cooler works fine even with 1 fan with the CPU sitting at around 28 degrees Celsius idle. But, the issue I have is that I installed the splitter that would be used to install both fans but only one of the fans is plugged into the splitter, this causes a error screen when the computer boots, it displays CPU fan error, at which point I have to go to the bios and then boot to windows. I can't take out the spitter unless I take out the CPU cooler which is all a hassle. Is there a way to avoid the error screen so that it just boots to windows and if not, I had an idea but I don't know if its suitable or not. I have a spare case fan, and I was thinking, would I be able to install the case fan at the top of the case in front of the cpu cooler and just plug it in to the splitter. if anyone could offer any insight into this issue it would be greatly appreciated.
