Hi everyone, this is my first time posting, and this is a question I've always had (I know this is probably very basic to most people on the forum, and I'm sorry in advance). Why would it be better to purchase a new router over the ones given by the ISP? In my case, I have a plain old 50 Megabit-per-second internet connection which the current ISP router handles just fine. It has basic router features like the ability to set up a guest network, change your default DNS server, and can broadcast 2.4 and 5ghz wifi at the same time. I currently have around ten different devices connected all at once; however, they are not all used at the same time. What additional features could a third party router from companies like D-link or Netgear provide?
Also, most 3rd party routers would most likely have an ethernet cable that connects them to the back of the router/modem the ISP provides right? If the ISP's router was very low-end is it possible that it could cause a bottleneck on the 3rd party router since all the device traffic would be going through that single ethernet port on the back of the ISP's router?
