Epimetheus reacted to GoldenLag in Will this RAM support my Ryzen CPU and Motherboard?
i can perhaps remember a couple of bugged launch bioses, but that was solved very quickly. it was XMP rarely worked.
i could try getting 3600mhz to work on my b350 board, but my IMC really doesnt like going above 3000mhz cl16. and ive got early batch 1st gen IMC, which is rather impressive.

Epimetheus got a reaction from Anon7mous in Need Advice On a New 1500€ Gaming PC
What country are you from? And don't get the 3800x, get the 3700x. They're nearly identical and the 3700x costs less. A much more balanced buy. The RTX 2070 Super is like 5-9% faster than the 5700 xt on average and has raytracing, so you're the one who should see if it's worth it. For the board get an Asus tuf or an Aorus elite

Epimetheus reacted to Origami Cactus in 650 Euros build for a friend
When i am buying something from amazon i go through:
amazon.de
amazon.co.uk (not much longer if brexit actually happens)
amazon.fr
amazon.it
amazon.es
and there are probably more amazons.

I suggest also looking at amazon.de, all the european amazons ship from the same warehouses, but the prices are very different on each countries pages.

Epimetheus reacted to 5x5 in 650 Euros build for a friend
Damn, then yeah, try for a 580 or 1660 but if not possible, grab a 570

Epimetheus got a reaction from 5x5 in 650 Euros build for a friend
Strangely enough, it was one of the cheapest b350s on amazon.it. I'll look into the case. And yeah not only with the 1660 ti he would exceed the budget by 50 euros, but lack a case, wifi and bluetooth card and mouse+keyboard

Epimetheus reacted to GoldenLag in Suggestions needed for a stupid decision I once made
swap CPU/mobo/ram and then PSU and Storage. that should give you a very good experience.
something like a r7 1700 for CPU encoding, B450 Pro4 f and 16 GB of Micron E-die. then a PSU like the Tx550m

Epimetheus got a reaction from BTGbullseye in rx 5700 or rx 5700xt bottleneck?
Bottlenecks are overrated if they're not on an extreme level. At 1080p though it's more cpu intensive than gpu intensive, so the cpu is going to hold these cards back. It's still going to be a good upgrade though, there's a giant difference between a 1060 and a 5700 - or 5700 xt
-
Epimetheus got a reaction from BTGbullseye in gtx 1660ti or rx vega 56
The Vega 56 will be much faster than the 1660 ti, it's now on par or faster than the 1070 ti. The Rog Strix cards are much better quality than the Ventus cards, and thus Will probably not be hot nor noisy. I'd get the 1660 ti only in case you case about the Nvidia features or the nvenc encoder for streaming

It would be a good upgrade @Apm90x but that motherboard isn't so great, and neither is the ram as @Epimetheus said.
maybe something like this could be better, with a better quality motherboard and faster ram (plus more quantity too) for under £250

Epimetheus reacted to Delicieuxz in Old Zoey Quinn tweets contradict her allegations against deceased Alec Holowka
Don't know if many people here will have heard about this. Co-creator and developer of Night in the Woods and co-founder of the indie development studio Infinite Ammo, Alec Holowka, recently committed suicide after being ostracized in the industry days after accusations of abuse were made against him by Zoey Quinn, who is also a developer and who used to be in a relationship with Alec.
Night in the Woods studio cuts ties with designer after abuse allegations
Night in the Woods co-creator Alec Holowka has died
And after Alec's death, while Quinn's accusations still hadn't been verified, some other people who'd worked with Alec also heaped on accusations against him - not the right thing to do at that time, IMO.
However, after all of this, some information started appearing calling into question Zoey Quinn's credibility as well as motivations and intention.
And now, despite Zoey Quinn having disabled her Twitter account, someone with access to her old Twitter posts (maybe someone who works at Twitter?) has provided her tweets from periods when she claims abuse was happening that outright contradicts various of her claims. For just two examples, Zoey claimed that Alec locked her in his home and kept her isolated during a period when her twitter activity shows she was proliferously posting in gleeful spirit while going out to do things, and Zoey claimed she had to suddenly flee from Alec with help someone else to get her a plane ticket when her old tweets reveal that she was planning and discussing her flight in relaxed manner in tweets that she tagged Alec in, in friendly manner, since around 10 days in advance.
Alec Holowka’s private messages reveal Zoe Quinn’s abuse
Zoe Quinn’s allegations are falling apart
I think that a piece written by 19th century philosopher and poet, Friedrich Nietzsche, which Sid Alpha reads in his video, is very on-point in expressing what took place: Thus Spake Zarathustra, by Friedrich Nietzsche - 29. The Tarantulas.
It's a heavy topic and very unfortunate situation. And without a doubt, even if the accusations against Alec were all true (and it really seems that not all of them are), the mob condemnation and demonization of him and ostracization of him from his job and the industry, and further the nasty attacks on him after his death, were all not the right thing to do, and were toxic and sadistic. His death does not represent justice for the things he was accused of even if they were true. And the people who have doubled-down after his death on the hate and celebrated his death are without doubt even more morally depraved and vile than someone who does the things Alec has been accused of doing (some of which now appears to be false).
Sharing so people can be aware of, and hopefully not participate in, and maybe stop this toxic behaviour in the games industry or wherever else people are doing it.

Epimetheus got a reaction from kdawwgg1221 in Ryzen 5 2600 vs. Ryzen 1700x
Are you going to do productivity work other than gaming? I personally like the idea of an 8 core processor, but the 2600 Is faster in gaming. It's Ryzen 1 vs Ryzen 2 though, so the difference isn't huge. You wouldn't go wrong either way

It's a tinkerer's card, same as the other Vegas. They're decent cards, till you tinker with them, then they become excellent.

Epimetheus got a reaction from SkilledRebuilds in Best Low Profile GTX 1650 for HP Elite 8300 SFF i7-3770?
I found the video. What i was using as a reference was the Hardware Unboxed review of the 1650, at around 10:40. It didn't say It didn't boost correctly but that they were clocked much lower, and the reviews weren't already so great with the parts with the Power connector (still better than the 1050 ti though). So i don't think it's so unresonable ti expect the 1650 ti to run with a Power connector needed

Epimetheus got a reaction from Thready in Build for various types of tasks
If you're afraid of thermals but still want a very powerful cpu, get the 3700x. It's not much slower than the other two and consumes a lot less power (heck it has a tdp of 65w, the 3900x alone consumes less than an 8700k which consumes a lot less than the 9900k). The 9900k is a notorious for its incredibly hot temperatures.
At this point i'd choose between the 3900x and the 3700x, the 3900x gets a bit more toasty than the 3700x but the extra cores and threads might come in handy. It depends on what your budget is and if you actually need the cores

Epimetheus reacted to Radium_Angel in Problems with resolution virtualbox
According to the link I posted above, you need to restart the VB program before the guest additions will take affect.
If you've done that, then I don't know any other options.
I am not at home right now, but if the problem persists tonight, I'll fire up my VBox and see what I can do to further help.

Epimetheus reacted to Radium_Angel in Problems with resolution virtualbox
Yup, and typically requires an additional video card be dedicated to the VM.

Epimetheus got a reaction from MrWalt in Best Low Profile GTX 1650 for HP Elite 8300 SFF i7-3770?
I mean, for how much garbage they can be - they're the only option for these types of systems, since the much better rx 570 requires a pcie power connector. The 1650 isn't bad by itself, it's not great value though. Will still work nicely

It's not a huge margin, but could still make the difference between playable and unplayable. I'd get a 1650 only in case you can sell the 1050ti. I don't think there's any difference between the three models
