  1. Greetings! I'm in the market for an upgrade and was looking for some possible suggestions. I'm currently rocking a 2017 LG Gram with an i7 - 8550U / 16gb ram. Unfortunately Its not cutting it anymore with light simulation games, and it struggles when editing photos in Photoshop and Lightroom - but its fine for everything else. I used to have a rig with a 3rd gen Ryzen / 1070 Ti rig but had to sell it when I moved. Due to space restraints I would like to stick with a laptop. I have been looking at the ASUS Zephyrus Series as Linus gave it a decent review and I enjoy its features / clean aesthetic. I've been considering the G14 (Ryzen 9 + 6700s) - $1,500, the G15 (Ryzen 9 + 3060) $1,650, or (i9 + 3070 Ti) $2,000. I really don't want to spend $2,000 but will if its worth it and will last a good bit of time then I'm not opposed. The most demanding game I play would probably be Anno 1800 (back on my rig), and Witcher 3. Does the 6700s cut it, or should I step up for something more? Ideally, I would be looking for something that's going to hold up for a good amount of time. I will be using it for personal / school use. Any help or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I'm not opposed to other brands - just looking for something solid without burning a hole in my wallet. - Thanks
  2. Greetings Humans. I have a bit of an odd question. I'm going to be moving 2k miles across the US in a few months. Its going to be a... pack my car with what I can and sell the rest kind of situation. I have been trying to decide whether or not to ship my PC, or just bite the bullet and sell. I know that I'm not going to have room in my car for it as well as 2 x "27 monitors & Peripherals given all of the other stuff I need to make room for. I've watched the handy LTT how not to wreck your system when shipping it, but my faith in USPS / FedEx / UPS is not the greatest. Also, as life goes - I push 60-70+/hr working weeks, so my rig just collects dust most of the time. Its nice to have a machine that can do some heavier lifting and gaming once in a while, but that is becoming far and few between. IF... I would decide to sell, how much do you think she would be worth? CPU : AMD Ryzen 5 - 3600 MoBo: MSI Pro - X570 RAM: Trident Z RGB - 16Gb 3200MHz GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 Ti SC 8GB PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower Grand RGB 650w Storage : Boot: 512Gb Nvme M.2 SSD Main: Basic 1Tb SSD Case: Thermaltake View 31 Limed Edition (w/ 3x Riing Fan Pack) Fans: 2x Thermaltake Pure Plus 12 RGB Fan Kits (3 Fans Each) It has 9 RGB fans ... I went a little crazy.. CPU Cooler: Corsair H115i RGB Monitor 1: Acer KG271U - 27" 1440p / 60Hz Monitor 2: LG 27GN600 - 27" 1080p / 144Hz - G-Sync I was thinking around at least $800 - $1k for the box, but i'm not sure if that's asking too much? Thank You! -Mvard
  3. Greetings All, I own a 2017 LG Gram (13Z980) and it has been my daily driver for the past 2 years. I use it for work and personal so it has seen a TON of use. A few weeks ago I noticed a spot form on my trackpad and thought it may have been a piece of dirt or whatever. I ran my fingernail lightly over top and ended up taking a good bit of the top coating off . Its now wearing away at a pretty good rate probably due to finger oils decaying it and whatnot. (Attached Photo) I've been searching for replacement trackpads but the closest thing I've been able to find is the whole deck assembly including the keyboard for like $200+, or purchasing a "for parts only" situation for even more. Does anyone know of a good place to get replacement trackpads that might have one for my machine? Given LG isn't huge in the laptop / computer manufacturing game, I'm realizing now that its difficult to find replacement parts. Its an 8th Gen i7 with PLENTY of life left and it fits my needs perfectly, however (when I cant use my wireless), the uneven trackpad surface and now spotty tracking is driving me nuts. Thanks! - Mvard
  4. So I've recently been having issues with my network over the past few months. The internet access will randomly cut-out at various times for all devices which can usually be remedied by a reset of the router / modem. We were not seeing our advertised speeds for what we paid for either. I suspected that this was on the ISP side of things so I had a tech come out and turns out it was a 15 year old cable spliter. This 100% fixed my speed issues. They ran diagnostics on the modem to confirm and I was getting upwards of 520 down and 120 up after the fix and the modem is stable. Fast forward 2 weeks and the same issues are happening again. I know it isn't the modem this time so I think my router is about to kick the can. Its an ASUS RT-AC86U (https://www.asus.com/us/Networking/RT-AC86U/) which seems to be a decent mid-range situation and its fairly new (Had it for just over 2 years now). I've tried firmware updates and multiple network re-sets, factory resets, all the things that I can think of. Should I start looking for something new, or does anyone have the same issues and know a fix? (We have 23 devices connected which is a bit much, but it consists of various Amazon Echo's and Phillips Hue devices along with PC's, Tv's and Consoles, etc.) If so, what would you guys recommend for a replacement? I spent $199 for this thing last time. I really don't want to go past that price point but if its necessary then so be it I guess.
  5. Very True. I've been itching to build something. I've had thoughts on a media server / streaming rig. This is probably that push, if anything -- it came with a free key for Win10 so why not lol?
  6. https://dell.to/315H0DO Thank you for pointing that out! Totally would have missed that. Probs some good ol' Dell proprietary bs. I found a spec page and I think it looks like the PSU is hot swapable - which probably points to the odd connector. Might have to dig around to look for an OEM case & replacement psu for this thing. Feels like this could get real pricey real quick. ?
  7. There is probably a flash drive or external drive plugged in that its trying to boot from. Find it, unplug it, then restart. Hopefully that helps!
  8. So I work in hotels, and long story short a guest left behind a motherboard for what appears to be a replacement part for a Dell Precision T5820 workstation (Based off of the Service tag for the pc on the invoice). Naturally he didn’t want it back and now I have it. The box came sealed in an anti static bag with a license key for Win10 home, an alcohol pad, and a syringe of thermal paste. Im thinking about possibly making a build out of this thing, but I can’t seem to find out much info about the board. Dell specs the T5820 with Xeon W chips on the 2066 socket. What’s interesting is the socket on this board says it’s a 2011-3. I’ve tried looking up the dell part number but I can’t seem to find this thing anywhere aside from some random processor benchmarks utilizing it. Its a weird dell form factor that seems to be close to an EATX in size. I’ve attached the part number sticker from dell. Anyone have any guidance on how to read / research Dell stuff? I’ve poked around on forums as well as the Dell site and 02KVM seems to be the part number, but haven’t had any luck researching. Do you think it’s worth making a build of it?
  9. Can anyone point me in the right direction of a good diagnostic software to check drive integrity? I pulled and formated an 840 Evo from my MBP that recently died and I wanted to check to see if it would be worth using in my rig. Thanks! --Mvard
  10. Not sure if you peeps have seen this before or not, but I thought this was a pretty awesome project and thought I'd share. I love little DIY things like this. I linked the original build guide, but they have an updated video with some new hardware and software tweaks. They also have an OG Gameboy project too. Enjoy
  11. Assuming the game supports the legacy drivers then yes, I’d assume it would do fairly well. I’ve never played overwatch personally, however the 6870 could handle he Witcher 3 on Medium - low settings around 30-40 FPS, and Warframe maxed out at 50 - 70 FPS, if that helps.
  12. I have a 6870, and it honestly keeps up pretty well with most games Med - High settings at 1080p. The only problem is they stopped further driver support so it’s not supported in a few newer titles.
  13. So I’m trying to repurpose an old system. When I try to boot iT, it posts and the heat sink fan ramps to 100%. I can get into the bios, but it will shutoff in like 30 seconds. When I check the hardware monitor, the temperature on the CPU climbs insanely fast and hits 235F /113C and cuts out. I’ve tried replacing the thermal paste twice to no avail. Is this a dead Mobo/Faulty Sensor? The heat sink is slightly warm to the touch, but not that warm...
  14. How cool would it be to see a modern gaming rig built inside an old CRT monitor? Like an ultimate sleeper all-in-one gaming machine. Would it be possible with the limited space? Could this work...?
