Jarvis Fully. It costs extra, but that isn't an easy payload. A wide config that doesn't wobble (and dual motor) is why it costs extra.
My desk is 70" of hardwood and I've been using that frame for about 3 years now doing WFH, still goes up and down every day like a champ.

I do not think you can finesse graphical programs in that way. You aren't going to see it because it is going to spawn in Administrator's session instead of yours. Put INTERACTIVE USER as the selected user and leave 'highest privileges' checked, that will probably do it.

I'm sure someone will rip me a new one for this but the multi account method is only needed if you are addicted to clicking the yes button for everything. Elevating via UAC in your normal session is acceptable.
As for this group policy thing, IMO just save yourself the effort and use policyplus. The gpo searcher it has is nice if you don't already know the layout of all the trees you want to access.

Personally I am a fan of the Dell approach. I will be the first to admit that their support isn't really great (unless you buy prosupport), but hear me out.  Certified shops might be able to service my laptop inside of the warranty, but I am free to use an uncertified shop or attempt my own repair if I wish. If I want a genuine replacement part, I can scavenge or I can log into their support chat and ask them to ship me a given part number for a fee. Aside from the motherboard, parts are not serialized and the machine won't be degraded even if you decide to replace that flakey killer wifi card with something better.

Hell, I used to work for a company that ran a fleet of their laptops and was part of the warranty self service program. As the technician, I could log into a web portal and order free warranty parts without talking to Dell about it. This is a big part as to why I use a Dell laptop even though the new M1 computers are cool and intriguing.

Also, as an aside, this was the first time I contributed to a gofundme and I was kinda surprised at how quick it was. Make sure you are sure about your amount because there is no oopsie screen.

On windows 10, there is a Network Discovery feature turned on by default that can automatically install printers, assuming you will be satisfied with the universal drivers.

If the network type is domain, guest, or public, you may need to manually toggle it on in the network & sharing center. From there, just hook one of the printers up to ethernet and see if it magically shows up.

jake9000 got a reaction from kirashi in Access Linux Homeserver from everywhere with external server and no port-forwarding
What you are looking for is a reverse proxy. Your phone accesses the VPS which in turn accesses your home network.
There are lots of options but nginx and caddyserver are popular with the latter being a lot easier to implement

You will want to consider authentication, too. Your vps (and therefore the tunnel to your home network) will be accessible on the public internet. Make sure you set up some kind of authentication be it keys, passwords, 2fa or whatever. These are features of the proxy software.

Just wanna throw this out there, both unraid and proxmox are fronts for a hypervisor called KVM that actually runs your virtual machines. You will find both to be competent for your use.
Also, Unraid has a nice docker component that can run applications. I run my plex and related software all in unraid's docker and do not have any VMs configured at all.

I use the MX Master at work as well. If you want the honeycomb, Glorious Model D and G-Wolves Skoll are probably what you want. I would avoid the Viper (ambi formfactor is not comfortable to palm if you like to palm your Master) but Razer's Basilisk is about as close as you can get to a gaming MX Master.

There's also the G502 which competes with the Basilisk. Keep in mind both of those mice are over 100g so if you are interested in lightweight mice, stick with the glorious or g-wolves.

jake9000 got a reaction from kirashi in Comcast Xfinity Network Security
The gateway itself should have a firewall with a high/medium/low selector. Comcast puts it to Low by default. The firewall drops all incoming connections that weren't initiated from inside the network.
The only thing to really worry about are UPNP devices which can cause the firewall to create a port forward to itself. This is how those fun IP cameras end up being publicly accessible.

Clustering is really application level rather than OS or even hardware layer. You need to find an application that will do the tasks you want in a distributed manner. For hashing you can look at projects like Hashtopolis but it seems like most people are just splitting their wordlist into pieces and running separately. For file storage, Ceph is where it's at. For databases, Redis.

Keep in mind that a lot of people don't start threads just to say that everything is fine. I've had my OP5 since July 2017 and I've never had an issue with it, and I don't really anticipate replacing it this year either. I heard about the support thing but figured I would be savvy enough to make simple fixes on my own if I had to.

I have def specced out vmware installs that cost that much. Real easy to get there when you start getting into cluster or VDI territory.
There is a free ESXI license but it's pretty limited. In the homelab scene there's a lot of proxmox and Hyper-V because you get all the advanced features for free.

The LTT videos always use Unraid, which provides a frontend to a hypervisor called KVM which is what Google uses to manage their fleet of datacenters.
Proxmox also frontends KVM if you just want a hypervisor and not the other stuff that unraid can do.

jake9000 got a reaction from Jarsky in How to check when a PC last connected to a Domain
@TheToxicgamer97 Every computer has a 'machine password' which is generated automatically on domain join, and stored locally in the registry and in activedirectory on the computer object. The client keeps the current and most recent previous password.  The machine password is automatically rotated every 30 days by changing it locally and then telling the domain controller what the new one is. If the client is offline for 60 days (two rotations), both of the registry items will mismatch what the domain controller knows and the computer will throw a trust relationship error upon attempting to authenticate to the DC. The fix for this scenario is to either do a domain rejoin or a test-computersecurechannel with a domain user account that is authorized to add 'new' computers to the domain.

The machine will not magically get locked at 30 days, you'll still be able to log on with a cached credential to any computer you have logged on to previously. Since you apparently have no plans to ever use the old DC and are going to stand up a new domain, you basically dont have to worry about it at all.
I once came across a colony of such computers that had been operating like this for years in an isolated lab. During a hardware refresh they just never turned in their old equipment but put them on a segregated network for running simulations.

You wont find any alternatives outside of paid products like Papercut or PrinterLogic. Set up a windows print server I guess.
CUPS is the de facto standard for *nix and has been for decades. For 2 printers you may as well just map your printers directly.

edit: Samba has a print server front-end that might work. It does use CUPS on the back-end tho.

Most of your money is going to come from servicing existing computers, not building custom ones unless you're willing to be tech support for those people.

There's almost no money for a mom & pop style computer shop to sell custom built. You can't get the prices for hardware that system builder companies get to make a decent enough profit.
