The board does have a name, it will be printed below the GPU. You need to remove the GPU and it will be right there. It's an ASUS board, and that's where they printed it on boards of that era (~2014).

    That's a memory error.

This doesn't help, and you should clean the system as the first thing you do, but I doubt it's the source of the error. You should also be reseating memory and checking each stick for functionality.

Looks like it's a variation/batch version of Asus H87/Z87 motherboard, and I notice, dust Aside, your friend only plug 20 Pin Motherboard ATX power connector instead of full 24 pin, that may caused the issue.

I think Fan Xpert 2+ is an Asus technology, so that is some clue

Try single sticks in each slot, then see if it turns on. If you can only get it to work in certain slots, that means those non-working slots are dead. If you can only get it work with a certain stick, that means the other slot is dead. If neither works, then it could be anything from the motherboard dying, CPU memory controller dying, both RAM sticks dying at once (unlikely but possible), or some combination, and without other known good hardware to test it with there isn't a way to say for certain one way or another.

Doing a Google search for that model number returns the following page on ASUS website:
    https://www.asus.com/us/supportonly/z97-p/helpdesk_knowledge/

Memory (RAM) troubleshooting basics involves removing all but a single stick of memory, then trying to boot the PC. Continue moving that same single stick to each of the motherboard's available RAM slots until either a) you find a slot that lets the PC boot, or b) you run out of slots. If b) occurs, try the same steps with another stick of memory, assuming the computer had multiple sticks.

You're trying to eliminate variables (RAM sticks OR RAM slots) one by one until you find a common denominator. If none of the RAM sticks work in ANY of the RAM slots, either the RAM sticks or the motherboard's RAM slots are defective. Next steps would involve testing the RAM sticks from this computer in another known-good working computer OR acquiring compatible known-good working RAM sticks to test this computer's motherboard.

The operating system has nothing to do with whether or not a system will POST (boot into BIOS), so you could certainly try resetting the CMOS to see if that does anything. Instructions to do this are located in the motherboard user manual on the manufacturer's website. 🙂 Let us know how it goes.

We tried resetting CMOS just now, according to the manual of this motherboard, and still same thing. Tomorrow we are going to try some stuff like taking ram from another pc, switching psu with another one, and some other stuff, just gonna try everything that comes to mind even if it's far fetched. I feel like my friend must have broken something without realizing it when changing ssd, because it's feels pretty weird that it would just stop posting even after changing back to the old ssd. Thank you so much for the help, and tips so far, it means a lot.
