A feature of the Lynx that I've never seen anyone else replicate that doesn't get enough love IMO is the fact that it could be configured for left-handed input. It literally allowed you to flip the screen if you were a lefty.

This is absolutely a dead horse but let the guy have his redemption arc. At least he's putting himself in a position where he's making it clear he's atoning for the things that were actually his mistake, and trying to set the record straight.

If you want to talk about dead horses, how about the people who've been trolling this Twitter feed to this day?

All from Japan? (0:39) OMG, you're not suggesting we've forgotten about the Lynx already are you? 😉 Seriously, the Lynx deserves a bit of recognition these days. It pioneered the form factor—a wide, narrow box with a landscape display and controls on each side—which even Nintendo has come around to by now. And while it was mocked for its considerable size I can't help noticing that it's actually significantly smaller than the Steam Deck. (Admittedly the Deck is much more of an all-round device.)

EldritchMoose got a reaction from tkitch in Home Depot is now selling power tools that require activation at checkout for them to work
Oh definitely - chances are the front desk staff won't even be told that a tool went missing in the first place. They'll either just activate directly after seeing the receipt or call their manager to ask permission to activate based on the receipt.

Even if the manager knows of the missing tool (which would necessitate them tallying their stock on a daily basis, which is highly unlikely) there's still the fact that the thief could argue their case based on the receipt. "Something must have gone wrong, because I did buy this and it ain't active."

Unless Home Depot is very different from every place I've worked at, retail jobs are full of people who will happily do anything to get the unhappy customer out of the store asap and the fastest way to do that is to just give them what they want.

    Good for her.
I still think NFT is dumb, but if some people can get rich without much efforts because other people think a certificate saying "you own this", with a link to a third party service hosting whatever it is they bought to be worth that amount of money... More power to them.

If we hadn't already reached a tipping point for this sort of stuff @Laina, AKA The Overly Attached Girlfriend minted her original meme and sold it as an NFT. She has posted on Twitter about it's progress and seemed shocked when NFT Collector @f3music recaptured the high bid by soundly beating the previous bid of 145 ETH with their 200 ETH winning bid (aprox. value $400,000 at time of sale).

Laina later tweeted about how this was "going to change my life"
As a personal note, I can't imagine a nicer meme person for it to happen to. She's been so good about the whole meme experience for as long as she could be, and then stepped back from the limelight a couple of years ago to become more private again.

    Congratulations, Laina.

    Man you're really over-analyzing this ain't ya?

Was it a dick move putting her on the spot like that? Yeah. But at the end of the day, Linus could just back out. People would mock him on social media, but it would certainly not harm him or his reputation. They also didn't discuss family financing per se. They did talk about the investing, and putting their own money in. But they didn't really talk it through either. More or less just "hey are we able to if we wanted to?" kinda thing. She said they'd talk later, and I'm sure they did. That talk they had was way more in depth than what we heard on the WAN show. That talk would have included all kinds of personal info and what-not, Linus isn't stupid, he would not talk about that stuff on camera in that magnitude. Also, even if she said "no frigg off" no one in the community (except for some real assholes who's opinions don't matter anyway) would be mad at her. They'd be disappointed, sure, but they wouldn't fucking disown her either. What is it with you people?

EldritchMoose got a reaction from Nex6 in Is this considered general knowledge?
I've heard of three of them, and in all cases it's only because they have been in the news for some reason or another. Dr. Disrespect got some heat at a con for streaming from the toilets, Ninja doesn't understand the concept of non-competitive gaming and Riot had a walkout over harassment accusations. Also, they announced a bunch of League of Legends tie-in games that read suspiciously like they had been copying Blizzard's homework.

All that said, I'm not surprised by that fact as I don't use Twitch and my only interaction with Twitch streams is through Youtube.

As a result of my situation, however, I've been keeping myself entertained with the following:
    - Dungeons and Dragons (the other half of our play group liver 3 houses down the street and it's easy to do this while socially distanced)
    - Board games with the wife
    - So. Many. DIY. Projects.

EldritchMoose reacted to bradwiggo in Twitch streamers threatened with channel bans over copyrighted music
Am I the only one who thinks music companies copyright claiming stuff like this and youtube videos is just scummy business practise? As if someone genuinely wants to "pirate" music by downloading it off youtube, surely they would just download the song (which are all available on youtube anyway), instead of downloading and clipping it out of a video with game audio or someone talking in it? I don't think the people who make the music are losing anything by youtubers or streamers having it in the background if it's in a game or something. If their problem is that people don't pay license fees for it, well none of these streamers would pay license fees as they wouldn't be able to afford it, they would just not use the music, so they aren't really losing anything that way either.

EldritchMoose got a reaction from Ayush007 in Delay in PS5 Digital Event
Not to veer into the politics behind the stated reason for the delay, this wouldn't be the first time that Sony would change their marketing strategy after(expected) social backlash. In fact, thay appear to have pulled both these ads:

    (spoilered for image size reasons)

In addition, it doesn't take a marketing genius to determine that going ahead as planned would have seen the PS5 hype drowned out by bigger news stories even before the inevitable "oh look, Sony's being tone-deaf in its marketing again!" stories would pop up. If Sony went ahead and held the event anyway, it could have easily backfired on them. Call it virtue signaling if you must, but this looks more like Sony finally learning to read the room to me.

Much better to wait for a slow news period and dominate the news cycle then.

EldritchMoose got a reaction from dalekphalm in Warcraft 3 reforged is a complete disaster
Mostly - it depicted the war that served as the setting for the first game along with a lot of elements that were later retroactively added to the lore. The first game had a very rudimentary plot that IIRC didn't have a canonical ending with one side winning until the second game was released. I could be wrong here, it's been a few decades since I played it.
I can recommend Diablo 2 - it stands as one of the games that kept my attention for the longest time. It's also the one game for which I own all the tie-in novels because I love the story and setting as much as I do.

Unfortunately my experience with Diablo 3 was decidedly less positive - I played through the campaign once and never returned. It hinges on retconning a pretty major plot element from the first game.

Honestly, I'm kinda surprised they didn't do this as a tie-in for the Warcraft movie a few years ago.

As for why they chose this: I'm fully in agreement with Jack_of_all_Trades - Warcraft 3 still had tens of thousands of players at the time of this decision, and they needed something punchy to get players hyped in case their other big Blizzcon announcement (Diablo "Do you guys not have phones" Immortal) fell through. 2018's Blizzcon didn't really have anything out of the ordinary beyond those two: a new Overwatch hero, a new Hearthstone expansion and an ETA for WOW Classic. Battle For Azeroth was still going on, so it would be too early to announce the next expansion and Heroes of the Storm would get its esports plug pulled before the end of the year, so there's not much to get hyped for there.

Frankly, they needed something with guaranteed success, and the most popular Warcraft RTS game fit that bill perfectly.

If you experienced bugs but didn’t personally report them, you’re exasperating the problem.

A dev seeing a YouTube video complaining of the bug is one thing. Them seeing the same video plus 3000 bug reports is much more effective.

If you’ve informed the devs, then there’s nothing to worry about here.

Disagree. What great games have they made anytime recently? Overwatch and if you want to consider this revamp of WoW.

In that time EA has given us Apex, Titanfall, Plants v Zombie, Jedi Fallen Order, etc.

Ubisoft has given us Siege, Assasins Creed origins/odyssey, South Park, Farcry, The Division series, etc.

You could say they have released fewer bad games....but thats not hard when you release one game every 4 years.
