  1. Good day guys, I've been wondering if there is any way to det an upper limit on the CPU clock speed on Chrome OS. I have a Lenovo Miix 720 on which I've disabled the fan and on Windows I can just limit the maximum CPU state in the power menu improving battery life and thermals since I don't need that much performance. I'd like to install Chrome OS but the last time I did it, the CPU would constantly boost generating heat that can't be handled by my modded passive cooling system. Thank you
  2. I replied above but forgot to quote, sorry.
  3. The only setting I've modified in the BIOS was turning on XMP because otherwise my RAM runs at a far lower clock. everything else is set to default. I've run benchmarks on all and none have had any issue so far. I remember back in the day I had a similar issue with a laptop that had a faulty HDD so the first thing I did was check my drives with crystaldisk. I disabled sleep mode and set the PC to go into hibernation instead of sleep after like 30 minutes, I have not had any lock ups since that. I also removed sleep from the power menu since it seems like something is up with it. I'll report back and see if I get any lock ups, but so far everything points to an issue with sleep mode. I have no idea what could be causing it.
  4. I'd say that you wont have any issues at 1080p with modest settings, it is a fantastic deal for $210
  5. This has been happening for a few days now and I'm at a bit of a loss about what the problem is exactly. It seems to have started as soon as I built this PC a couple of months back, but I'm not sure exactly what specific element has screwed things up for me and due to the nature of it, I have left it alone because I don't want any down time on my PC. If I leave Windows 10 alone for more than a few minutes, it freezes. This happens on a nearly consistent basis, either right before it goes back to sleep or as soon as I wake it up. It's frozen hard and requires a hard reset. Ctrl alt del doesn't work, alt tab doesn't work, nothing but the power button or the reset button on the case has any affect. There is no error message, there is no spinning wheel mouse icon, the mouse pointer doesn't move. It's just frozen and no input does anything. The screen just has a still image of whatever was displaying when it happened and audio is also dead, no system sounds or anything. It also doesn't matter if something is running. If I'm running any program, it still happens. As long as I'm not actively inputting something with an input device such as the keyboard, mouse, or a gamepad it locks up. If I'm watching a video and get up to go get a shower it's locked up when I get back, it doesn't matter if I pause whatever it is or leave it running. If I'm doing something, typing, playing a game, or whatever, it will run for hours uninterrupted. No problems whatsoever. It's like the PC is trying to go to sleep or go into an idle or power saving mode from a lack of input and is crashing hard as a result. I turned off the disk power saving settings in the power management, extended the time to sleep and it still happens. I'm running Windows 10 x64 on a Ryzen 5 2600, 20gb of DDR4 @3000Mhz (Could it be that XMP or my unusual RAM config is causing this issue?) and a GTX1060, my boot drive is a corsair MP510 NVMe M.2 and I have another storage HDD which is just an old 2.5 5400rpm drive, everything is running at stock speeds and I've never OC'ed any of the parts, the temperatures are all very reasonable. I have yes to completely disable the sleep settings because I'd like to find a solution first. I've double checked and everything is still set the way it should be. I've turned off Link State Power Management in all power settings. Another thing I just did was raising the minimum processor sate from 5 to 10%. I will report back and see if these fix the issue but I'd like to have those back to normal eventually. I've run the windows memory diagnostic without any issues. sfc /scannow reports no integrity violations. I've already disabled all screensavers, I have just re enabled them to see if they stop the issue, there are no scheduled tasks or updates screwing with anything. All my drivers and BIOS are up to date, caches have been cleared, and everything runs fine as long as I'm there and active. The usual suite of common updating software such as adobe and virus definitions are also up to date, so that isn't it either. I've scanned for viruses, malware, and adware. My system is clean. There are no error messages popping up at all. No BSOD or indication of any problems outside of the freezing itself. It just locks up suddenly and once it does no input does anything but a reset using the tower's power buttons. I've got no clue how to make it stop at this point. Any ideas about a proper way to diagnose this issue? Thank you very much. EDIT: Manually sending the PC to sleep and it would not wake up. this new symptom It can be randomly triggered by sending the computer to sleep, the monitor will go off and the fans and the lights on my case will remain on, the computer will not resume sleep from this state, hybrid sleep is disabled and this is happening regardless. I have now disabled sleep and I'll see if the issue keeps happening
  6. Update: Changing the cable made a difference with the tearing, it is far less frequent now. I was using the cable that came with my OG Ps4 and using the cable that came with my Switch seems to provide a better result, I'll receive a HDMI to displayport adapter soon and I'll report back on how does that input fare. Thank you everyone, there's a noticeable improvement when moving up from 1440p to 1710p
  7. Oh, using CVT Reduced Blank made a huge difference, I was able to get both 3040x1710 and 2960x1665 working There are a few glitches quite similar to tearing every now and then when running at 1710p so I settled for 1665p and they occur on a far less frequent basis, thank you very much for the calculator, I'll try with a different cable to see whether that makes any difference, thank you very much for the advice, this should be widely known so that everyone can get the most out of the old 1.4 ports. This should not be harmful to my display by any means, right?
  8. Hmm I just ran into some more issues, I was going to just randomly try to get the best out of it I tried to set a custom resolution of 3200x1800 but it failed the test stating that the resolution was not supported by my display, even though I checked the box which says enable resolutions not exposed by the display. Then I tried with 3040x1710 and I got the same results. The plot thickens. Yeah, as you say it doesn't sound optimal
  9. Yes, I'd like to know what is the highest resolution I can maintain while staying at 60Hz. It would have to be something that stays within the 8.16 Gbit/s bandwith of HDMI 1.4, I'm not sure of how to do the calculation but I'm looking into it
  10. So, I was on the market for a 1440p 60hz monitor since my Laptop's HDMI is v1.4 and that was the most it could handle, it's a Lenovo Ideapad Y510p with two 750Ms on a SLI configuration, of course this isn't a configuration I'd use for gaming at this resolution. However, I came across a 4K 60Hz LG 27UD58 on the cheap and I thought I could just get my PC to output at 1440p@60Hz and call it a day. But after seeing just how sharp is 4K I'd like to be able to get as close as possible to that level of detail while maintaining the same framerate, if possible at 8-10 bit color depth I'm not able to select 10 bit color depth in the NVIDIA control panel though, even though this monitor is supposed to have an 8bit Panel + FRC Thank you!
