Pop and Mint are very similar under the hood, so it makes sense that you see the problem again. The problem is not really solved because the workaround is to use only the Nvidia GPU which is not the intention of Nvidia Optimus technology. Since you have a stability problem I would recommend testing the most stable systems currently available. Since you're a fan of Pop and Mint, I assume you're looking for something that's easy to install. I would recommend these systems.

    1. Mageia

    2. GhostBSD

    3. MX Linux

You can also try Nobara Project as it is easy to install but is basically not as stable as the above systems.

If you don't mind that the installation would be more difficult than Ubuntu's, you can also test the following systems.

Void Linux, Artix Linux and NixOS

Also what is a good anti malware for Linux.

Anti-malware apps are often an additional attack vector for hackers. What I mean by this is that hackers often break into a computer by exploiting one of the many vulnerabilities in anti-malware software. I'm talking about vulnerabilities that wouldn't be there if the anti-malware app wasn't installed. Anti malware apps also make securing browsers and other apps much more complicated. Many new attack methods are no longer stopped by anti-malware apps. Another common problem with anti-malware apps like Avast is that they can block security updates to your operating system. Consider the fact that Avast has been holding back Meltdown/Spectre mitigations for windows for months. Anti malware software is something that generally adds nothing to your PC's security.

So there isn't a fix for Pop or Mint? I have to change is again? That stinks. Thank you for your help!

I don't like popular malware or antivirus. I thought clam was a good free one for linux?

  2. I love Pop!_OS. I have used it for a while. My Motherboard was dying so I upgraded to a new one and reinstalled Pop. It KEPT freezing. I would be doing my programming homework and it would freeze, just browsing the internet, freeze. Each time I would have to shut it off because the kill command did nothing. I did all the trouble shooting, spoke with support staff. There were zero hardware issues and no one could figure out what was happening. I made the painful decision to uninstall my beloved Pop and install Mint. Guess what? After I installed everything I needed for school, which took a couple of hours, it froze again. I was beginning to think my PC was just cursed. Then I stumbled across this blessed post and fixed the issue https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=2278146 . Now the question is, do I reinstall Pop? Also what is a good anti malware for Linux. TIA!

UPDATE: Issue not fixed still trying to find a solution.

  3. I really enjoyed the XQC video. I think this has potential for a recurring video series. Linus loves helping others. He has done this before and I love these videos.

    Title: Creator Rescue

Linus flies to Creators houses and helps them with their tech emergencies. Intro should be dramatic, live Live Rescue music and sirens. He has aviators on and dramatically takes them off and says something the dude from CSI MIami would say.

    No lanyards this year?

  5. I am working on a project for LTX23 and I am looking for the funniest quotes from LMG staff. I searched google, but I am finding very outdated lists. I have Narcolepsy so i've never been one of those people who can quote movies or remember things. I know Linus says some crazy stuff that sends my dopamine receptors wanting more. Especially the unhinged Jay and Silent Bob WAN. OMG. Thanks in advance!

To elaborate on this. When you are tramming the machine (this goes for mills and the like as well) you aren't making the bed level to the ground or the table or anything like that.

The goal of tramming is to make the tool move perfectly parallel to the bed. This may be obvious but it is something that a lot of people new to manufacturing get mixed around.

If the bed is warped or the gantry is not square it will become exceedingly difficult to tram machine.

Something that can help at the expense of print quality is to raise the first layer height. then you tram to the best of your ability, and have a bit of a larger gap to smooth out inconsistencies.

Will definitely be redoing this step today. Thank you! I am determined to get this working. I really appreciate your help. The forum is always super helpful.

Do they work? As in, do they make a clicking sound when pressed?

Good to hear the blank screen is gone. If it's running into the bed then the bed is not trammed properly.

Stops in a bad way or in an I'm done way? Can it be you simply have it set up to only use 6 probe points?

BL touch or equivalent auto-leveling (which is actually tramming) stuff is not a replacement for manual tramming. It is a final tweak to take care of any remaining unevenness and does not do the whole process for you. The first step is tramming the bed manually using the screws at each of the corners of the bed, underneath it. You use those to get it as close to trammed as you can, and then you can use auto-leveling to account for a warped bed, for example. To manually tram I typically start a print that does a small square in each corner and adjust each corner while it is going to get a nice layer there. If large adjustments are done then I do that twice or thrice first.

Yes, all the switches make a clicking sound when pressed.

On the 7th probe point it goes off the bed tries to probe and stops. My son said it is set for 9 probe points.
I will check the manual tramming myself, but that would not account for the cr touch going out of bounds.

Thank you! I will do this step today. I really appreciate your help.

Here is a video of what it is doing:

    did the printer ever work?

when you send it a gcode program does it do the homing routine? it should move home and click the limit switches (audible click sound) and then back off of them a few mm.

It sounds like the motors are moving in relative mode and don't know where they are.

Are you sure the firmware is properly installed?

Just reinstalled the firmware. I think the screen was blank because the file was not properly named. smh

I have tried to get my son to fix this on his own, but it makes me sick to see it just sitting here so thought I would give it a go.

Now we are up and running, but when we run the auto leveling program it gets through the first 6 stages and the it goes off the mat and stops.

Yes, it has printed calibration cubes but the main problem is that he can't get it leveled. It will not print correctly. It will either dig into the mat, or be too high.

I bought the CR touch to help with this issue, but can't get it to level.

We just ran a calibration cube and it is printing too high.

Perhaps the limit switches may not be fully/properly connected at this point, or are broken. They look like this:

Creality Limit Switch - 1 pc

Can you confirm those are reached and triggered when homing?

Can you elaborate on "not doing anything"? Does the screen remain blank, can you not select prints to start? The SD card step for BL touch only flashes firmware, nothing else will happen from what I can find aside from a new option being available afterwards.

    The screen remains blank.

The limit switches are all connected.

This is usually in an enclosure. Pulled it out to take picture.

  10. In March of 2021 I bought my son a 3d printer. It is a Creality Ender 5 Pro 3D Printer He has printed maybe three small things.

Disclaimer: I have not touched this 3D Printer, I know nothing about 3D printing, but I have tried scouring Reddit and other forums trying to get help. Including the Creality forum and Discord.

Issue: 3D Printer will not do anything. Power comes on. That's it. It is just a very expensive paperweight.

What was done: He could not get the bed leveled so we bought the Creality CR Touch Auto Bed Leveling Sensor Kit. He installed the CR Touch software and the CR touch. When he tried to level the bed, the printer head was "going out of bounds" aka going off the mat. It would try to go further than the rails would allow it to. He removed the original software off of the SD card and downloaded the software again for the CR Touch. He put the SD card back into the printer and turned it on. Ten minutes went by and nothing happened. He turned it off and back on and after an hour he turned it off since it was not doing anything. He took the SD card out and turned it back on and nothing. He tried to reinstall the original software and it still does nothing.

I am sick of looking at this printer and really want to fix it. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Poutine: Smokes. It is soooooo freaking good. https://smokespoutinerie.com/

Hop on hop off bus tours: https://www.vancouverplanner.com/hop-on-hop-off-vancouver/

    • These tickets are good for 24 hours. You get to see Vancouver and can hop off when you want to explore and catch another bus when you are done. Also recommend the

    Electric boat tour. https://electricharbourtours.com/

    • I am biased on this one since the boat's name is Elektra. We learned a lot. It was extremely relaxing and we got to see several float planes take off and land. Made friends with a little seal.

    Granville Island: https://granvilleisland.com/

    • This is a stop on the hop on hop off bus tour. Go hungry. This was one of my favourite places. We went a couple of times.

The Sky Train was my son's favourite thing. It was like a roller coaster, lol.

We loved The Old Spaghetti Factory. The food was really good.

We only had one scary incident. We were followed by a homeless man at night. We were walking from Gastown to our hotel after a ghost tour down a very dark street which was really dumb. He got spooked and stopped. Other than that, we did not have any issues except getting lost in Surrey on our way to LMG office tour. I want to go see Whistler this year and do some more things we missed. There is so much to do. Victoria is on my bucket list this year as well. I would like to go whale watching and kayaking too. I am a list making fiend. I make itineraries. We don't always stick to them but it helps. Especially to prioritize your time.

I will say some of the best things about Vancouver are free. You can not beat the serenity that Vancouver has. It is such a magical, healing place. The mountains and the water. One of my favourite things was just sitting and taking in all of the beautiful scenery. It is good for the soul to stop and appreciate nature. I also loved how environmentally friendly it is there. I have only been once and it is one of my most favourite places on Earth.

PS. I had such a crap phone. Dennis made fun of it and said the picture was so bad. Can't wait for a redo.

  12. My Wishlist

Creators: iJustine and Sara Dietschy please! Women in tech are needed. Mutahar (Some Ordinary Gamers) for cybersecurity. Mark Rober. Snazzy labs, Hardware Canucks, Jay, BitWit.

I would love a live Jeopardy redo, but easier questions and not as stressful.

Beat Saber competition, where the top 3 go against Linus.

    Crafting with Yvonne and Sarah.

  13. It would be impossible to accommodate everyone. Someone would always be unhappy that it wasn't near them. They have talked about this a lot on WAN. LTX is in Vancouver for a reason. It is a beautiful city. There are many other tech shows everywhere else. LTX is perfect in Vancouver. It's unique. I live in TN and make the trek. It would be crazy expensive to have it anywhere else and you wouldn't get the benefit of having all of the staff there or getting to tours the office and labs.

For anyone who’s been to LTX before and has a vibe for how the event’s going to play out, I have a small question for you: what’s the likelihood that I could bring the side panel to my computer case and get it signed by LMG staff? Or would staff be too busy?

In 2019 the staff were super sweet to sign whatever you wanted. A lot of people brought panels iirc. I didn't get anything signed, but I got a lot of pictures with staff.

We don't want to give out exact dates just yet, but a few details I can share for now:

    • Summer 2023
    • Vancouver Convention Centre (West Building)
    • More floor space than 2019 (a lot more)

So far we appear to have finally not scheduled LTX on the same weekend as a Quakecon or San Diego Comic-Con 😅, but a lot of events are coming back in full swing next year so I imagine it'll be hard to avoid conflict with something else that's going on in North America.

    More Info Soon™️

Thank you! I opened up a savings account just for this. Can't wait to volunteer and see everyone. 2019 was a blast. 2023 is going to be even better. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

  16. Idea: The ultimate work from home setup

    • Should you have a separate space for work? I have found it hard to work on creative projects at my desk when I am off work.
    • What to do with all of the cables.
    • Where should you keep your security key. I usually leave mine plugged in.
    • What is the most comfortable headset? I am currently using a Corsair rgb void but need an upgrade.
    • Posture support, foot rest, products to prevent carpal tunnel.
    • Tips for working from home. I know you have FP devs that work from home.  How do they keep a healthy work/home balance. How do you keep them involved and feel like that are a part of the company. This is honestly a hard part of wfh for Amazon. They have a FB like website where we interact with everyone and play trivia games and share things, but it is hard to do that stuff when you are slammed. I feel very disconnected lately. I have worked for Amazon for over three years now, but I don't feel a part of Amazon since I don't see anyone and have never been to a facility. I love working from home. Especially since I have had a lot of health issues that prevents me from going to a brick and mortar job. I am a part of the engagement team and it is so hard to get people to engage.
    • Affordable UPS that doesn't suck.

I really need to redo my work from home setup. My cable management is atrocious. Ethernet switches have failed me. KVM switches are a pain. I currently have an L shaped desk with my personal dual monitor setup and also my dual monitor work setup. My desk currently holds four monitors, two mice, two keyboards, mic arm. Only one tower since my work pc is a lenovo thinkcentre. I started dropping packets with the ethernet switch. I would also like to add another monitor to each setup making the total 6. So many heavy adapters and cables going everywhere. I use double sided gorilla tape to mount the adapters, switches, and surge protector to the underside of my desk. I refuse to put my tower on the floor.

We do have security checks where they will call and have us turn on the webcam so they can see the room. I got dinged for my Echo dot and for not taking my security key out of my thinkcentre. They send a computer and peripherals. They send a headset but I don't like it. I prefer a gaming headset. We can buy our own keyboard and mouse as long as it is wired.

I can't have my Alexa devices in my office because they are a security violation since they can record audio.

    No paper or writing utensils.

    No phone/tablet/etc.

Has to be in an area free of noise and no one walking through.

    No wireless peripherals.

Have to be hardwired and have high speed internet.
