I'm still annoyed that everyone calls them POSCAPs

It's like looking at a parking lot full of cars and saying "Dammit, the lot is full of chevrolets"
Or like saying "I have a Toyota compact Chevrolet"
Do you see how little sense this makes?

POSCAP is one of Panasonic's SMD Cap brands, please stop calling every SMD Cap that

Just gonna flex the two 3090 I got today for my client. The dude dropped full cash for this thing the day it was announced, basically pre-ordering it and now is a very happy camper and NOT having to beat the bots to get it.

I got them direct from the supplier. And those two are the only ones there is. That two also represent double digit percentage of all the 3090s that is available on launch for all brands in the country that I lives.
So if you wait on launch day to get them, you ain’t got a chance.

The FE's are not "reference". They are very high end PCB's and the reference boards the AIB boards have are worse hence this one is worse. Yes it's "by design". I'm not seeing anything out of the ordinary here, I guess people didnt realize FE was high end this year.

I can give you some insight into this, as I am an independent computer store in Vietnam.
There are VERY VERY LIMITED STOCK OF THE 3000 series GPU. One local distributor of a brand that exclusively make Nvidia GPU only have 5 3080 and 2 3090 on launch day. Pricing are insane, we are quoted 1900$ for the 3090 at the dealership level. Retail, this thing is going for close to two grand even. Well given that this is 10% VAT added already with "launch day price premium" and generally tech prices in Vietnam being a little higher than straight MSRP, it is expected. And yes I managed to sell one 3090 to one of my customer after I told him two weeks ago to sell his 2080ti. He could have gotten a 3080 and still have some cash to spare, that's how insane the 3000 series is right now. But with the limited stock like I said, it won't change the landscape too much til like end of the year. It all depends on AMD and the crypto market, also on the general world economy as well.

So, there you have it. Local stores like me earns 100$ on a 2000$ card on launch day. About 5-10% for regular stuff. We make money mainly on services and buy back/ resell mostly.

No, because they also contain moisturizing agents like glycerin which will just make things nasty. And because it's hydroscopic, it'll attract moisture which is bad for electronics of any kind. Also because glycerin is sticky, dust will bind to it making things even worse. Only use isopropyl alcohol or something like +90% ethanol. Nothing else.

We do care about performance, we just aren't willing to sacrifice an interface and ecosystem we prefer just to say we score higher in a benchmark.  To abuse car analogies: if you go shopping for a car based purely on 0-60 times, you're A) missing out on so much more and B) probably not very fun.

Đỗ Đức Huy reacted to Jumballi in Apple quietly ditches AMD
While generating a lot of press and noise that they will be abandoning intel, Apple has quietly hinted that they will soon stop using AMD based graphics in their Macs. Apple made the "announcement" in a WWDC developer session, where they mention only Apple GPUs will support the new TBDR architecture and metal API, both of which are speculated to be more efficient on mobile systems.

    Quote from Gizmodo UK

    My thoughts
    While this indeed does sound like they could possibly move away from AMD for the time being, AMD has announced their Radeon GPUs branching out into the mobile market, partnering with Samsung earlier last year. There are 4 reasons as to why they haven't announced why they would continue using AMD GPU;
    1. Apple gains a leverage over AMD, they can now argue solely on GPU alone and leave CPU out of it.
    2. AMD doesn't have enough time to release a new mobile GPU in time for the the first Apple Silicon Mac launch.
    3. AMD might be under a contract that prevents them from working with apple at this time.
    4. AMD mobile GPUs aren't mature enough for Apple to put them in a mac today.

They do a lot of stuff, not just Firefox.

    Mozilla does:
Firefox (for like 5 different OSes) and all of its components (not an easy task these days with browsers being so complex, Firefox is 22,5 million lines of code).
Servo (a complete engineering of Firefox's browser engine, being done in parallel with Gecko development).
    Thunderbird (email client).
    Bugzilla (bug tracking software).
Pocket (kinda like bookmarks on steroids).
NSS (programming library with a ton of security and cryptography related features).
    Rust (a fairly programming language).
Shumway (open source replacement for Flash Player).
Heavily fund and staff Xiph.org (organization that develops free multimedia formats and tools, such as Opus, Vorbis, Ogg, Theora, Daala and now helps with AV1 development).

Apparently what Mozilla laid off were, among other things, the servo team. That's basically the team responsible for all the major speed improvements that have been happening in Firefox the last 1-2 years. So losing that is a major blow.
Others are saying that they laid off a lot of the security staff but there are some conflicting info on that.

Edit: Seems like they did lay off security staff, but it was the staff for securing Mozilla's own infrastructure, not the one doing security on Firefox. So Mozilla no longer have people who does stuff like look for attacks and write incident reports if something were to happen.

Which is funny because both the EU and the US are both considering implementing similar regulations and rulings as China. That for example Huawei might be allowed to sell equipment if they manufacture it in the EU or US. But I guess it's only bad when China does it. 🙄 (Worth noting that the Huawei manufacturing in EU/US situation was only a suggestion and I don't think it has lead anywhere, at least not yet).

China: We don't allow US made products in our networks! We can't trust foreigners!
Everyone: Buu China bad! They don't trust us!

US: We don't allow Chinese made products in our networks!
Everyone: Yay so great that we banned these foreign products! We can't trust foreigners! China bad!

India has already implemented similar rules, but India is basically China 2.0 at this point so that's no surprise. What is surprising is that nobody bats an eye when India does it.

Oh boy do I have news for you. The biggest data harvesting companies in the world are pretty much all US based (Google, Microsoft, Facebook to mention a few), and as we have time and time again learned, all of them cooperate with the US government. And the few times companies don't cooperate with the US government, they are either forced to or agencies like NSA forcefully intercept the traffic.
