  1. Boss is letting go of his two 980tis Hall of fame edition from Galax with water blocks (not the water cooled edition mind you, one of his pal is a distributor of the OEM that make the block for Galax and he managed to scrounge up a pair for me) at the end of 2017 for 400 ish buck (400-450 depending on the exchange rate and market price, but I will not pay market price for them, 10-15% fair market value lower). This will also be my first foray into custom water cooling ( Boss is a big time water cooling buff and his pal can get me at the factory dealer pricing on water cooling hardware) Is it worth it though or am I better of hunting some used miner 1080s for the same money? (I use a Ryzen 7 1700 Oc'ed to 4.0Ghz with a X370 board so SLI is an option for me) Or am I burning electricity for no end? The two 980tis in my boss TJ07 so you know this is for real!
  2. If the mounting holes fits with LGA 775 scheme, you could get coolers for it no problem
  3. clearance sale, no warranty. If there was any I would have gone to the shop first!
  4. since Jully, at a ware house clearance sale of a PC hardware vendor
  5. Yes, visually the card is fine, booting up in safe mode is fine, the minute new drivers are in it fails
  6. yes, same thing happens when GFE tries to install new drivers. Artifact and buggy all round
  7. My GTX780ti Phantom suddenly (I know, nothing happen all of a sudden but believe me this one did) stop working when I was watching a YouTube video and the next time I tried to restart the machine, the whole screen have artifacts on it. Funny thing is, when ever I use the Basic Display driver or in the Bios, there was nothing wrong. The minute I tried to install any drivers (old, new, GTX 780ti launch day drivers etc..) the machine give up the ghost. Tried it in another system (p67 Sabertooth with windows 10) the same damn thing happens! So PLEASE LTT, SAVE ME, YOU ARE MY ONLY HOPE
  8. There is a simple trick to put the Xeon at 3.0Ghz on all cores though...
  9. Got a 980ti to play nice with a 5GHz 2600K, the I5 is fine
  10. You see this fan split-er? one have three pin sticking out, the other have 4 pin sticking out. The RPM that you see is from the fan connected to the four pin header
  11. Not that, you should trace which fan is connected to the third pin. That is the fan that will report the true RPM
  12. Try to OC the 1700 to 3.9Ghz plus Get a 1070 owr a 1080, preferably waiting til the end of the year for miners to release their cards for newer ones. Profits!
  13. So that's why I sold my 980ti and my 980 to get a 780ti, wayy overkill for any game I'm playing at 1440p while I bid my time for when the miner unleash the flood of 1080's Mine 780ti Phantom is sitting at 1224 on the core, 7.6Ghz memory (quick and dirty OC). Yeah so 30% more clock speed please!
  14. You know for a damn fact that even the reference cards can be OC to 1.2GHz. http://www.anandtech.com/show/7492/the-geforce-gtx-780-ti-review/16 Heck, here even Anandtech can do it They compare very highly OCed "new cards" vs bone stock old card while nerfing 30% clock speed. Seems legit point in case: 1050ti 1290 stock, 1392 boost, Gaming X 1379 and 1493 boost. Very much legit
  15. Yeah... no, that is flat out wrong http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-780-Ti-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1050-Ti/2165vs3649 http://www.overclock.net/t/1515264/gtx-980-vs-gtx-780-ti-benchmarked-1440p-performance http://www.anandtech.com/show/8526/nvidia-geforce-gtx-980-review 780ti to the 980 is more like a side-grade
  16. Used 780ti, same as the 1060 or 980 but much much cheaper. Will retain value due to multi use in GPU compute. Con: space heater by today standards
  17. Uh I tried to OC this thing and got 3.9GHz at 1.38125 volt, load line calibration at level 2 on an Asrock X370 Gaming K4 (yes yes I'm FULLY aware of the EOL stuff), the only limiting factor is the wraith spire cooler that make the CPU thermal shut down. How much more can I expect out of this chip with a decent cooler (found one, just need to get the AMD bracket for it) because other than being thermal limited in Intel burn test, Cine-bench runs fine, 30 times in a row! I have a custom Excel bench mark and it runs fine as well...
  18. Okay so some MMO games and a kill-a-watt to measure the power draw
