star_pilot475 reacted to ELSknutson in What’s the best cheap cpu for gaming?
For just a few more bucks you can have a Ryzen 5 1600 https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Processor-Wraith-Cooler-YD1600BBAEBOX/dp/B06XNRQHG4/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=ryzen+5&qid=1555341189&s=gateway&sr=8-5
and you will be much happier with the performance over all.

Oh if only future proofing was real
edit: and the bottleneck calculator too? man, you buy into too many PC myths
Ryzen 5 1400 has really good used prices on eBay, chances are you could get one sub $100

Acer Nitro 5 is a good budget option, can do some decent gaming and has upgradable ram. (Comes with 8GB I think) I don’t know if it’s available in Portugal tho...

star_pilot475 got a reaction from Lagercat1 in What graphics card to upgrade to eventually?
If you’ve got the cash, obviously go with an RTX 2080Ti, if you wanna save a bit but still go high end maybe try a Radeon VII... if you really just wanna save money maybe try a GTX 1660Ti.
Other people are right tho...
maybe wait for Navi

you do NOT want a PSU with missing protections, group-regulated design that's only going to last a few years, from 2013, on a workstation system that's worth ONE AND A HALF grand.

Expansion card. That's pretty much the only way to add anything the motherboard doesn't have.

A few changes:
Removed Arctic Silver TIM. CPU's stock HSF already has thermal paste applied. Keeping DDR4-2800. Consider stretching the budget $20 to get G.Skill Ripjaw V (2x4GB) DDR4-3200. Changed SSD from Kingston A400 to Crucial BX500. Same speed, but a couple bucks cheaper. Case changed to Cooler Master Master Case Lite 3.1. Combined your budget for the 2x fans and Cougar, and selected an appropriate case that has 3 fans preinstalled. Marked PSU, GPU, and HDD as purchased. Changed your wireless NIC to include one that supports the 802.11ac standard. Highly recommend you utilize the 5GHz WiFi band if you intend to do any gaming over WiFi, if your router supports it, and if it's not too far away. Feel free to drop this if wireless AC isn't an option.

The VP is in the "don't buy" tier of our tier list, so definitely not. Don't forget, a good PSU is a good investment, if you're getting a new one, get something nice. I also don't trust used PSUs, just because so much relies on them working properly.
Also, make sure to quote people so they see your responses.

And it doesn't matter how much RAM you have, because you can always download more later.

star_pilot475 reacted to fluxdeity in How about this CPU
I'm confused. You're listing AM4 and LGA1150 socketed chips but saying you have very limited money for a CPU. If you are getting a whole new motherboard why can't you get a decent processor? Do you have DDR3 or 4 RAM? Why not save up longer for better parts?

star_pilot475 reacted to Princess Luna in How about this CPU
Value wise it's nearly impossible to argue with the Ryzen 5 1600 but that doesn't change how the 2200G also is a better pick than hunting second hand i5's from several generation ago hehehe

Ok, good to know. Yeah I was planning on using it for gaming but I guess I’ll look into a different budget option.

star_pilot475 got a reaction from XR6 in Is this £48 GTX960 4GB fake ?
Look for an actual brand name and a respected seller. If it doesn’t have any labels or anything, it might be a fake. (For example, you should see like an MSI Logo or Zotac, something like that) Also, you might see that the seller has no ratings or reviews or even anything else that he’s selling. That could also mean it’s a fake.

Look for like a Radeon R9 series, they’re cheap and give pretty decent performance.
