  1. I returned the blade unit, and ordered a different one. Found a 1u rackmount with similar specs (a regular old power supply!) and ordered it. Only downside is it doesn’t have as much ram, but I’ll make it work.

  3. Bought a blade server because I wanted to experiment with server tech, and I may have been a little quick with things. Didn’t realize it requires an enclosure from Dell to power it. Now I gotta figure out if I can swap the cpus to a different motherboard or something. This is what I get for trying to jump into something I don’t know well…

  4. Well darn guys. I didn’t see these extra posts. Unit arrived today and I figured out that it’s not gonna work without Dell’s enclosure. edit: this is what happens when you’re not used to something and try to dive head first into it…
  5. CPU would be fairly old, the one I was looking at had 2 Xeon e5-2680s.
  6. Hey guys, been a while since I’ve been on here. I’m not exactly fluent or experienced when it comes to enterprise servers. I’ve had old desktops running as servers for a long time, and know how to make them work, but I’d like to start experimenting with something that’s got a little more punch to it. I’m looking at purchasing an old server blade for Minecraft, maybe some NAS and some other miscellaneous game server hosting. Can I just buy an old Dell Poweredge with 16 cores of ancient Xeon, 64GB ram and have it run everything, or would it be a little too old for even these tasks? Thanks in advance!
  7. Like I said before, Bose Soundsports are nice, but they’re around $120. I don’t know of very many cheap options in Turkey, so I can’t really help. I’d try looking at Amazon or something similar and just read some reviews before you buy.

    I’m back!! So I said in a status update a while…

Yep, I knew about that hardware revision. I made sure I got the red box. I was planning on Mario Kart, Mario Odyssey and Super Smash Bros all down the line. But Zelda must come first! ?
  9. I think that if that is a dealbreaker for you, then buying a gaming headset and then buying some earbuds would be your best bet. For a gaming headset, I’d go with these. For earbuds I’d go with Bose Soundsports, or if you have an iPhone, I’d consider AirPods, depending on your budget.
  10. Yes You can connect it via 3.5mm jack, but not wirelessly.
  11. @Gregory Smith This rig can handle all of the above stated tasks, and more if need be. 12. Are you seeing ram being maxed out while in games? If so, it may be a good upgrade. If not, you could stick with your 8GBs.

So I said in a status update a while ago I was gonna downsize my desktop to a laptop...I may have spent all that laptop money on a Nintendo Switch instead. I had never played Breath of the Wild before, and a couple weeks back I was at a friends house and they let me try it out. I loved it so much I decided to get a Switch, but ran out of money so now I’ve gotta wait a couple weeks before getting BOTW. I'm excited to play it though!

  14. This would! The 5700 XT trades blows with a 2070 Super, plus you get an ssd for fast boot. SSDs are essential nowadays, I wouldn’t build a pc without one.

  17. I am back for a brief moment with big news...

I have to sell my rig

my GPU is leaving me Thursday and the rest of it, I don’t know yet.

many will despise me but I must get something more portable...

but on another note, I’m building a pc for a friend. He’s buying my GPU and paring it with a Ryzen 5 2600. This is his first build in like 10 years. He doesn’t really know what he’s doing anymore so most likely I’ll have to assemble the whole thing. This will be my first real build! Of course, it is somebody else's rig to be jealous of but whatever.

edit: when I came back today, I had 158 notifs...

  18. Well, I wasn’t very active on the forums last week because, well, my week (and the rest of this month) is hectic for me.

most likely you won’t see me very active for the rest of the month, but beginning November, things should calm down a bit.

  19. @RobJInChiTown How does this look? It seems to tick most of boxes, but is right on the edge of your budget too. edit: alternatively, there’s this one too
  20. @NoFlo03 Here’s some adjustments to think about. That motherboard you originally had is overpriced, and just not worth the money. I opted for faster ram, as 3600MHz is known to be the "sweet spot" for Ryzen 3000. You can use the Lian Li PC-011 Dynamic Razer, but I was just giving you some options on cases. Also, I opted for a cheaper 4tb SSD, as well as a different boot drive that can take advantage of PCIE Gen4 (as well as being comparable in price to the Samsung) The 10TB drive that you originally had is fine, I just didn’t see it right away on PCPP. 21. Have you looked into air coolers instead? For the price of a decent 120mm AIO, you can get a pretty nice air cooler. Maybe something like this?

Yeah I know, it’s cheap though and I can’t afford more without sacrificing a lot on the monitor. It got decent reviews, so if it holds up for 6 months, that’s good enough for me.
  23. So I tried that cable management that people talk about...

I mean, for what you had to work with, it's actually not bad

Just to be an arse though... Personally whenever i'm doing cable runs or cable managing things, I always try get the tie wrap ends in the same orientation/facing the same way..... Honestly makes a difference - also cut the ends with a Stanley knife to get them flush

Or alternatively have better things to do and not care

put your extra cables in unused 5.25 bays if you have them.
