  1. Hi I am concerned about my PC setup. I am running a Toshiba Qosmio x770 with a i7-2630QM and a GTX 560M (Win 10). The newest updates available are from 2012 (Bios, processor, Graphics etc.). Should I be concerned about my security since i did not have any updates that stop exploits like meltdown and spectre? I would really appreciate some advice. Should abandon this setup?
  2. Idle power consumption with max brightness is 80 watts. The mounting pressure should be good. There is no dust yet. It had this temperature since ever. Could it be that the thermal paste was too cheap? I paid like 8 Euro. About 9 bucks I guess. COOLER MASTER RG-ICV1-TW20-R1 IC Value V1 Ist that the problem? Should I repaste?
  3. I cleaned out the dust when I changed the thermal paste. The idle temperature is 80°C for the CPU and 63°C for the GPU The laptop is from 2011 I think. The battery is already dead. (Does not turn on when battery is in). So this is more like a stationary solution. It overheated already a few times when playing. (Reached tjmax an shut off) I guess I have to backup everything to a cloud. I plan to build a PC but as a student I do not have money for that. IMPORTANT: can I clock the CPU down or something like that? I have no fan control and it is always so loud. I keep hearing the fan noise when sleeping. It is so frustrating. Is there anything I can do to limit power. (To use it for research such as reading pdfs). So the fan would spin down. Thank you all for the help.
  4. How long do computer parts work until it is expected to break? I am a bit concerned. My laptop runs a i7 2630-qm GeForce GTX 560m Sometimes the display flashes for a millisecond. Is this a symptom of the graphic card dying? How long do your PC's last? Should I get a new one? I am a student and do not have much money. The CPU stays at 2 GHz and almost never boosts up. Also the laptop throttles down often. Thank your for taking the time to answer. Edit: I changed the thermal paste recently
  5. Hi, my laptop Toshiba Qosmio x770 thermal throttles permanatly. I guess it is because the fan does not change the speed while under laod. Do you have any idea what i could do to get my fan working again or at least change the speed manually. This is the driver site: http://www.toshiba.eu/support/drivers/laptops/ The Category is: Portables/Qosmio/X770 Is it an driver issue? It happened after I switched to win 10 x64 In the following i screenshoted the drivers. I installed every of them but i guess something went wrong or so. This is a huge issue for my as my CPU does not get over 1397 Mhz while it should get to 2,8Ghz or so. I tried to use the software speedfan but it does not help or I do not know how to set the fan speed manually. I have MSI afterburner, but the fan adjuster is not adjustable an never was. The CPU always overheats. I hope you guys can help me. Thanks for taking the time and sorry for the bad english.
  6. In 3d mark the CPU usage gets to 100% Is it possible that it is a driver issue or something like that? "Not sure if Intel XTU would work reliably but when running the Benchmark check intel XTU for PL1 Throttle and Thermal Throttle" Not sure what that means, but in that test it got to 70°C which should be normal. I cannot imagine something is holding the CPU back. I recently switched to win 10 and formated everything. Maybe it is thermal throtteling after all. In that picture you will see on the left, that it turboed up when I woke the Laptop and after 44°C it never got over 1397Mhz. What do you guys think? Thermal trhotteling above 40°C does not make any sense..... It turboed up for about 1 minute.
  7. Hi. I did a 3d Mark test and noticed, that my Processor stays at minimum frequency. What could be the cause of that Issue? It is an old Laptop on which i cannot enter the BIOS anymore. Quosmio X770 Intel i7-2630qm https://ark.intel.com/products/52219/Intel-Core-i7-2630QM-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-2-90-GHz- The processor should turbo up to 2,9 Ghz, but it stays at 1,39 Ghz, as you can see in my result. https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/33158285? https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/33156985? https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/11929576 It would be great, if my laptop would work properly again because it is my only computer and i cannot afford another one. Maybe it is a driver issue or something.
