  1. WAN content suggestion I'd love a follow up on The Escapist/Second Wind story. Possibly with a call in from Yahtzee or Nick Calandra. Felt like there were questions left unanswered due to how recent the events were, which now have more definite answers now the madness of launching a whole new company in a few days is mostly over. I find the events genuinely interesting, seeing a team take control over their own content and not having to meet the demands of a corporation that was seemingly out of touch with their fanbase. There's a good crossover of interests between fans of the two channels and since Second Wind don't make any videos similar to GameLinked, almost no chance of cannibalising your own viewership. Being a brand new business and channel, I'm sure they'd also benefit from the exposure to the LTT fanbase. Seems like a win/win scenario for LTT, Second Wind, and viewers.
  2. Maybe a labs project for the future. Testing the specs of older high end monitors for things that can degrade over time, such as brightness, uniformity and colour accuracy. The premise being, are used high end monitors competitive with similarly priced, new more budget monitors? Could also explore how different screen technologies age, and how much the image can be restored by use of color calibration. Information on how monitors perform when new is relatively easy to come by, but for many people it's a large purchase they expect to outlive their actual PC. I think people would be particularly interested in OLED displays, as they have a reputation for burn in, and the technology has now been around long enough that there are monitors that will have been in daily use for years.
  3. Not sure if this is really the right place for this, but this YouTube video is using Linus in their title card, I'm guessing without permission. Skimmed through the video and not sure if he's even mentioned in the content.
  4. Definitely a Jake/Linus new house focused thing, but how about looking into offline voice assistants. There's enough variety to make it a video.I know of "Almond & Ada", Mycroft, Jasper and Rhasspy. Would love to see what they do well, the differences between them, and the trade offs you have to accept compared to Google/Alexa/Apple.
  5. I have a normal recursive dns server setup with caching, but essentially want to pull all records to be cached locally so that dns requests from my network never need to leave my network.
  6. Is there a way to setup a local dns server with all possible dns records, so that it requires no traditional upstream dns? And what sort of storage would I be looking at? Essentially I want to run the same service that cloudflare has at 1.1.1.1, or Google at 8.8.8.8, but on my own network, updating itself as nessecary. Is this feasible without living in a datacenter?
  7. Would love to see a WiFi performance comparison between an average ISP supplied router, a ubiquity access point, and a high end Pcie WiFi card like the Asus AC-88 running as an access point.
  8. How about typing out subtitles so YouTube doesn't have to auto detect them...

    Reverse gpu fans

Thanks for the advice, it seems like the only way to find out is to do it and see. The practical use case for reversing gpu fans is so small I just can't find any usual info. There's some discussion, but I can't find any actual numbers. If/when I end up doing it, I'll chuck the outcome on here incase anyone else finds it relevant.

    Reverse gpu fans

Mounting the fans upside down isn't too much of an issue, I should be able to just flip them and screw them to the shroud. Might just have to try it out, the cardboard case idea is possible, but super impractical due to the water loop. Would mean draining, dissambling the loop, leak testing again, not a small job.

    Reverse gpu fans

I understand the loss of static pressure on the heatsink is going to raise the temps, I'm just curious as to how badly. If I keep the card stock, it's going to stop the exhaust from the top of the case and blow hot air all over my water cooled card, which is not a full block, and really piss off its vrms.

That's what a dremel is for.

I can... I take the fan off, I turn the fan over, I put it back.
  14. My two cents... Run the leak test for as long as possible, I've seen recommendations for 24 hours + If you're rinsing with warm soapy water, rinse, rinse and rinse again. You can rinse with normal water and do the last one or two with distilled. Consider a silver kill coil. There's pros and cons, they're not for everyone. Ultimately for me, biocides eventually break down, quality of biocides in premixed coolant is unknown, silver lasts forever. Two pumps are always better than one if you have space and money, if nothing else it gives you safe redundancy if one dies. Zip ties are perfectly fine with barb fittings, but can be a bastard to remove if you decide to change components. Broadly speaking, multiple reservoirs don't have a worthwhile effect on temperatures. Leaving a small air bubble in the res is almost always preferable. Some setups work better fully filled, but it can cause an increase in pressure as temperatures rise. There's people on both sides of the argument, but a small air bubble is usually recommended. The best way I've found to get air bubbles out of the loop, is physically picking up the whole case, and turning it around a few times, trying to get the air bubbles to rise to the res with gravity. This will depend on the shape of the loop. And last thing, a personal recommendation that's maybe not widely recommended, use "battery water" as coolant, used for old lead car batteries and available in auto shops. Pure enough to use in loops and extremely cheap per litre.
