  1. Try NoteBook Fan Control, doesn't work perfectly, but usually works. https://github.com/hirschmann/nbfc
  2. Looks interesting. Is there a link for your Rainmeter setup?
  3. So I have a D-Link WBR 1310 router laying around, and I was wondering if there is a way to get dd-wrt or another alternate OS onto it. Its not on the router list of dd-wrt, and I don't know if its broadcom based for Tomato. Is there way to get another OS onto it? With the latest dlink firmware on it, the date doesn't even go past 2012... I'm wondering if there is still a use for it. Will any alternate OS work on it? If so, which ones? Thanks!
  4. Gaming or Video production? i7 6700 might be better for gaming with 5820K better for content creation, although they are probably quite similar. X99 is probably a bit more expensive, at least for a motherboard.
  5. What about if you want to access it over the internet? Any ideas?
  6. For gaming, consider upgrading your RAM to at least 8 GB, your GPU to something a little more recent, also if you have any budget left, maybe CPU upgrade to something like an i5 or i7. Great wall PSU? Hmm. Sounds sketcy, upgrade that along with the RAM first.
  7. If you're using it as an FTP server, you can port forward port 20 and 21 from your router to the IP address of your Server 2012 machine. If it's setup like a network share, well, I'm trying to figure that out for my server as well...
  8. I enjoyed the reviews, and the experimentational stuff is cool, but maybe make a second channel, for experiments, and more reviews and such on the main channel
  9. So I'm trying to tun a server virtual machine using Virtualbox. The server instructions state that you need to use bridged mode in VirtualBox to make it work. Here is the problem: When I select bridged mode, nothing shows up. I read the FAQ and then installed the TAP driver, yet still nothing shows up. Attached is a screenshot. How can I set up bridged mode? What am I doing wrong?
  10. So I have an old computer running Linux Mint (I have more experience with Debian compared to Arch) that I would like to use as a file server. I'm OK with port forwarding. In the past, I have had it run an FTP server using vsftpd, which allowed me to access it locally and remotely (from school), The problem with FTP is that the implementation in Windows SUCKS. Copying any file through the Windows Explorer is unreliable, and using FileZilla is not practical. I then had it act like a NAS using samba shares, which is way better then FTP over a local network, but all my computers would not detect it on the network and I could not access it remotely. I currently run Owncloud, which I am relatively happy with, allowing to sync files and with remote access (as well as bonuses like a calendar, mail client and more), but I could not get it working with my 2 drives. Do any of you have suggestions? I would like something that works natively with Windows (could act like a NAS or Sync to a particular folder) and I would like to be able to access it from school. If you don't have any suggestions, I can stick to Owncloud (I added the second drive as external storage to Owncloud, but only files in the main drive sync, the secondary drive can only be accessed online).
  11. Yes the image quality will drop, due to the fact that it's not a native resolution for your monitor. It's definetly playable, won't be a huge deal, but maybe consider keeping 1440p and running your game at slightly lower details.
  12. Core i3 4130, Gigabyte Windforce GTX 660, 2 Hard drives
  13. So after having lost enough data over several power outages (and accidentally turning off the main powerbar under my desk) and seeing Linus' Vessel video today, I decided it's probably a good idea to add a UPS to my setup. I just need something entry level that can keep my PC and Monitor on for a couple of extra minutes. Any suggestions?
  14. After watching your low end video card rant, I changed routes from upgrading my desktop to a GT 740 to a used GTX 660, and the price to performance is much better! Thanks for the advice!
