  1. First I want to say; thanks for your help. It's very much appreciated. I have passwords set up on both my PCs and also with the option turned off it still doesn't work, it gets me the same error as before. This is what I get when I try the command:
  2. Yes, I'm using the drive letters as shares. These are the drives I'm sharing: These are the permissions on one of the drives (they are the same on all drives): The PC is in the browse list but I get the same network error when trying to open it: Also both the laptop and the desktop are in a private network. These are the settings of said network on both PCs: I really don't know what I'm missing, it's driving me insane.
  3. Hi there, thanks for your reply. The firewall isn't on, on both PCs. This is the error I get with adding the network drive: But the folder is definitely valid (these are just the drive letters). And this is what I get when I try to ping the IP and hostname: The actual error when trying to connect through the network tab:
  4. Hi there. I had a workgroup for a long time without any problems. Then a week ago the power went out and after it came back on, the workgroup wasn't working anymore. I used it mainly to download torrents from my laptop onto a network drive on my desktop. So the workgroup consists of a laptop and a desktop. The desktop isn't reachable from the laptop, but the laptop IS reachable from the desktop. I bought a new WiFi dongle for the desktop (it needed upgrading anyway) and tried all the Microsoft solutions to fix the workgroup. I also formatted the desktop PC, because I'm making that a media player PC, but that also didn't help. My last resort is also formatting my laptop, but that's a bunch of work so I'd rather not do that. Does anyone have any other possible solutions? They would be much appreciated. Thanks SPECS: Laptop: Lenovo Y740 / Windows 10 / Realtek PCIe GBE Desktop: Windows 10 / TP-Link Archer T4U
  5. Hi there! For a school project we have to set up a server (which is located at my home) with a webpage, cacti and pterodactyl. The website and cacti listen on the http (80) port. Pterodactyl on the https (443) port. So I'm using a reverse proxy (Nginx on my Raspberry Pi 2 with Ubuntu 20.04 ARM) to forward different subdomains to my local ip addresses. The website forwarding is not an issue but cacti is something else. It always tries to forward it to "mydomain/cacti/index.html" after logging in, but the entry in my reverse proxy is already pointing to the /cacti/ location. So it's effectively trying to access "myIP/cacti/cacti/index.html" which doesn't exist. My webpage is also on the same machine. This is the entry.. I deleted my real domain so it's normally in there instead of "example.com". How do I fix this? Thanks in advance!
  6. Ok thank you I'll check it out.
  7. Sorry I totally forgot I posted this here. We eventually just ended up having me configure everything. Thanks a bunch though.
  8. Hi there! I have a school project which involves setting up an Pterodactyl server panel on Linux, a monitoring program (Cacti) and a website. It's all hosted on my home systems (2 old PC's) which both run Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. I have a selection of domains I plan to connect to the different local servers, where the web panels of the tools are situated. I read online I can do this with a reverse proxy? But I wonder If I can't just make my Raspberry Pi a DNS server to forward the domains to my local server IP's. My RBPi also has Ubuntu installed. Is this possible? Thanks in advance.
  9. Mainly just installing packages and configuring various packages. But I don't want them to be able to access the root directories, only their own home directory so they can install everything there. None of us have a lot of experience with Linux, we were just thrown into the deep end. So I don't want to reinstall the OS every day, if that makes sense. But thanks for the replies. I'm going to try it this afternoon. I'll keep u posted! I didn't think it could be so easy.
  10. Hi! I have a school project where we have a DevOps assignment. For this project there are a number of different people working on it. All students from my class. I want to give them an account so they can SSH into my server (running Ubuntu 18.04) and use that account to do sudo tasks, but only in certain folders (their own home directory). This is primarily so they don't mess up the rest of my system. Then I did some research and found SELinux. There seems to be a way to do this with that program. But then I read some worrying things: It can lock your whole system if you're not careful (the thing I'm trying to avoid) and there's not much documentation for it regarding Red Hat systems, let alone Debian systems. Is there a quick and rather moderately easy way of doing this? Thanks in advance! If you need some more information, I'll reply as quickly as I can.
  11. Yup you're totally right. But I learned a lot today and that's all I can ask for. Thanks for the explanation! Have a great day!
  12. Sorry everyone had to go... But I read up on some settings of my router I wasn't familiar with and apparently this was on; So it's all sorted now! I feel so dumb. Thanks for all the help though!
  13. Yeah, like I said... 400 Mbps is already in Megabit though. Look it up, it's the right abbreviation. 400 Mbps is indeed 50 MB/s not Mbps. lol It's all in the capitalization m8. I'm studying to be a network administrator (my first year though), so I'm not dumb. I just thought maybe someone could give me some insight into why it's so slow, because my local network is also slow, which it shouldn't. But if you need a speedtest... My max speed at ISP level now is 200 Mbps, upload is 20 Mbps. Also there are no obstructions and my router is not in range of any other 5 Ghz networks.
  14. I bought a Lenovo Y740 last year and it has a Killer Wireless-AC 1550i WiFi card with a theoretical speed of 1.73 Gbps. I also have a Netgear Nighthawk R7000 as an acces point with a theoretical speed of 1.3 Gbps on the 5 GHz band. My max speed however, is only 173.3 Mbps (Which you can see in the screenshot down below). I don't know why this is, but I can't get it too go higher. I'm only a half meter away from the router most of the times with no obstructions. I'm at the end of my rope here. I really don't understand why it doesn't go any higher than that. Also my ISP is upgrading my connection soon to 400 Mbps, so it would be nice to be able to use the full speed. Thanks in advance!
