  1. Hi there, in about a couple of months I will be embarking on the journey to Uni and till then I want to work to buy stuff like a new phone, backpack laptop etc, things I need for Uni. Now in terms of my course, I am wanting to do a Bsc undergraduate in Computer Science. My current laptop is a old ThinkPad I have had for a while, and while yes it does work, its seriously starting to show its age, especially in the battery department. Now yes, I have looked at the new M1 MacBook's, and I must say they nearly tempted me to buy one. I say nearly because I was literally about to press the checkout button on apples website. But I stopped and looked for other window options. You see, I want to do gaming while at Uni too, since till now I have not really have had any means of gaming apart from my phone. So I started looking for gaming laptops, perfect for any coding workload I throw it, and amazing gaming capabilities. Now at the same time I need it to be not too heavy (so under 2.3 KG) and have decent battery life to last me the school day, so around 4-6 hours. At the same time I want it to have RGB but look understated when going in class so I dont draw attention to myself. Now thats I huge list, I know and the Macbook M1 ticks most of them off, but the restrictions on the new chip and Mac really bother me, hence I stopped looking at them. So I have been searching for days and looking at reviews etc, and I believe I found the perfect one for me. The Lenovo Legion 7. The link to it is here: https://www.lenovo.com/gb/en/gbeducation/cart/46e43b72-d3ff-4dcf-a942-113159ef939b?activeTabName=&transMessageFlag=true However if you cannot access the link to the specific one I want I will give the specs and price here below: £1400/$1950 Intel core i7 10750H 16GB RAM (expandable to 32GB) 1TB SSD 240z 15.6'' Adobe vision, 100% Colour accuracy screen which goes to 500 nits, 1080p Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070 MAX-Q Full RBG I-CUE Battery advertised as 7.3 hours (actual reviews say from 4.5 to 6 hours of youtube loop, with lowest setting and RGB off) And the weight is 2.25 kilo's On paper and on reviews alike, this looks and seems as the perfect laptop for me. But here comes my question, is this what I should get, not just as a specific gaming laptop but as in, a gaming laptop in general? A big issue I have is the longevity of this product. You see, for me to get the laptop I would need to work 3 months full time during summer. So not only do I expect it to be great in my needs, I expect it to last me a very long time. See I am based in the UK, and unlike apple where there are repair stores literally everywhere, Lenovo has a different stance. So in short my question (or questions in this aspect) is, is this worth it? How long will this really last me? Does Lenovo have good customer support, specifically in the UK? And if anyone who has this laptop with them at Uni, what's your experience like with it? If you're still reading you're a King/Queen and I appreciate your time. I am just worried I might make the wrong purchase since to me this might be one of the biggest purchases I would make in my life so far.
  2. Oh I see yh thats a bit of a problem since most of the ones I have looked up are similar or outright the same
  3. Fair enough yh I heard about GreenCell many people complain about it not working after a few months but I will definitely look into the T480 or another 9-cell thanks!
  4. Hey all I have a bit of a problem concerning my laptop. Next year I wish to go to University and take my 1 year old T430 with me since I have legit fallen in love with this machine, I have taken it apart so easily just for fun and plan to upgrade it in the future. I am thinking of doing a Computer Science degree and this laptop would be perfect, however there are 2 major downsides. One is that the campus to the Uni is rather large so there will be a lot of walking and the T430 weighs nearly 3kg which can be tiresome and annoying, however I would not mind the weight if it wasn't for the battery of this machine. You see currently I am getting 2 hours max with all setting in power saving mode. This thing takes enough space as it is and weighs a lot too so having to carry a charger for it at Uni is a immediate no for me. My question is what is the best type of battery for this laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad T430 - i5 3320M - 8gb ram - 256gb ssd) that will help me get through the day once I hopefully get to University. I am looking for at least 4-5 hours of battery life since I believe that is all I would need. If anyone can send me links or help me find one that would be perfect and I would be very grateful. Also if anyone can help me in terms of any problems buying a new aftermarket battery such as a "whitelist" the laptop has which I am unfamiliar with? Many Thanks in advance.
  5. That's annoying and I hope they don't do it anymore, anyways it's a shame as I do really like this legend of a laptop but unfortunately I might have to sell it, I do appreciate the info you've given me, many thanks!
  6. Yh fair enough but how come Lenovo puts whitelist? Surely it should give its customers the freedom to do whatever they want with the product they paid for.
  7. Aha got it and I presume that you need to flash the BIOS to get rid of it? But do you have any idea why the site didn't put my laptop on the 'not compatible' list if it is whitelisted? Also thanks for the reply now I get what it means.
  8. Hey all hope you all doing amazing I have come here for a question for you all concerning my laptop. You see I want to get my Lenovo Thinkpad T430 ready for some games. Currently I am thinking about the EXP GDC Beast solution as my laptop has a EXP slot. Now people may be annoyed at me for not just building or get another PC for gaming but hear me out. First I am a student so I need a laptop for school, secondly I do not have a lot of money since I am a student so I dont want to waste my money I work hard for, for another PC. And thirdly it would be cool if this would work as I do really like this laptop and I dont want to sell it. Now in terms of compatibility my laptop is not mentioned on the official "EXP GDC site" as compatible, however it isn't in the list of laptops that are not compatible either so I am not sure what to do. I dont want to waste my money so thats why I have come here. I delved in deeper for the issue why some laptops are not compatible and I found out the reason is because of something called whitelist. This apparently (please correct me If I am wrong) is a lock on the bios to the wifi card slot in the laptop (the wifi card slot used for the GPU through the EXP GDC beast if you dont want to buy a separate wifi card). Now I dont know if my laptop has it and I dont know how to check. I have read that people say just put a wifi card from a different laptop into your one and see if it accepts it, and unfortunately this laptop is the only computer I have. So my question is, is my laptop compatible with the EXP GDC beast and how can I check if it has a whitelisted BIOS. Many Thanks in advance for any answers. P.S: If your answer is "it wont work dont bother" or "stop wasting your time" then there please dont join in the chat as I want helpful answers.
  9. Wow thanks thats the info I was looking for, I might go for the third option if feel confident but I think I am edging towards the second option, anyways thanks a lot for the help I will be sure to post the final Office PC I am gonna get and maybe a pic of it working, again thanks for the help!!
  10. Thats true I'll definitely look into it!
  11. have but a core i5 is quite expensive at 120 and I cant get a good GPU for less than 30. Besides an i3 for me would be underpowered.
  12. Hi guys so I want to get a old office PC from ebay and slap in a graphics card as I have heard many people saying that its the easiest and cheapest way to go. My budget is £150 ($196) and I wish to only get stuff from UK. I am not a PC guru and dont want to really swap out any PSU or any of that, just if possible a graphics and that's it. I already have monitor etc and I'm looking to game stuff like GTA V, Dead By daylight etc at 1080p medium settings. Im looking to get 40-60 FPS but 30 would be alright too. If someone could help me find the perfect office PC and GPU to go with it that would be awesome :D, Many thanks to any who help.
  13. I can GTA v on it but stuff like that and Call of duty etc
  14. Yeah fair enough but again like I said I can't get a desktop
  15. Could do that but I need a portbe machine for school thats why I got the laptop in the first place also no I haven't yet got the 750 ti.
  16. Hi there so in terms of my GPU I have the Intel hd 4000, I'm planning to go with the Express card solution and for the GPU I'm planning on getting the Nvidia Geforce GTX 750 Ti. The website I found this on is the downloaded PDF that is in this link http://www.raspberrypiwiki.com/images/8/81/EXP-GDC-User-Manual-EN-20170321.pdf Many Thanks for the interest though.
  17. That's what I'm worried about, but could it be perhaps possible to go somewhere to get the bios flashed so the whitelist is removed somewhere like PC World for example.
  18. I don't think you understand, I don't exactly have the money to buy a new computer as I only have a weekend job otherwise I would of never done this post.
  19. Hi all so I can finally get my EXP GDC project going but when I delved deeper into the research I found out that in the compatibility on the EXP GDC website my T430 was under whitelist? Im not sure what this is however I do believe that it's something to do with restricted compatibility? Anyways I want to k ow how to overcome this before I buy the things I was going to buy so I don't waste any money as they are not refundable. And if someone at all could possibly help could they explain it step by step? I just don't want anything to go wrong. Many Thanks in Advance for any help given.
  20. Yes I have and no not mine one especially millions of other users with this phone have the same issue.
  21. Hiya all this might be off the topic from the norm but I would gladly get your help. I have bought a HONOR Play phone after saving up and selling my iphone 6s. The phone is perfect, the battery is amazing as is everything however there is a problem. This is not a new issue I believe every one with this phone knows what it is, the HONOR play has touch delay by 1 second when playing any game such as my best one, Call of Duty Mobile. Now this makes the game unplayable even though this is a gaming phone, Honor hasn't responded to my email and I have updated the phone to the latest EMUI and still no result. I bought this phone for the battery and Gaming and sadly I cannot sell it and get a new one without waiting a few months. Now I know that on PUBG this issue is resolved but thats only on PUBG and not on all other games, Minecraft, COD Mobile its still the same. I dont want to get rid of this phone as I love it so if any can help with this issue please kindly do. Oh and also a mystery to me is that "Tencent" the developers of PUBG and COD Mobile have fixed it for PUBG yet not for their other game which makes me wonder if this is a facotry fault of Honor or something else...?
  22. Yes indeed though after all these were meant too be purely business computers which were fast and accurate at what they were made, however yes the HD gpu is crap but if this solution works I will post videos and photos of it working as well as all links to what I bought, but again remember I will be doing this in December so unfortunately its a long wait! Thanks for the interest, but I will definitely keep you updated.
  23. Hi there just visited the sites you linked and they did help a lot! For now the battery is good lasts for about 1 hour when heavy gaming and for moderate use lasts about 3-4 hours for me that’s fine. But yes maybe in the future I will but thanks for the advice I can’t wait to get this setup in 2 months, if you would like I could make a video on what FPS I’m getting to show u if you don’t get it before me! anyways thanks a lot:)
  24. Ok good thanks alot, I am not expecting muchonly 1080p medium setting at least 30fps in GTA V with this laptop paired with the GTX 750 Ti, you think maybe it would work? With that amount of fps I mean.
  25. so i just put that in the SD slot and i dont have to open my laptop at all to make it into a gaming machine??
