  1. but like the live linux boot style, not an installed OS right? For utilities I would use this for that, but if I wanted a HirensbootUSB and a linux, and X all bootable and installed can this do it without a software layer like ventoy as well?
  2. This might just sum it up. I also just had someone else recommend Ventoy to me in the discord for LTT. and @PorkishPig I have been doing what you said, but a new 512g passport and a 128g usbc drive have made me want to try to consolidate more and just bring a couple of things with me on the go.
  3. This is really cool! Doenst quite check all my boxes since I wanted to be able to boot and run off of it, but you have just posted something so cool I need to buy.
  4. Hey all, Thanks to anyone that takes the time to read! I just got my hands on some new storage equipment for my day to day and want to leverage them for better working shortcuts! I work in IT and often have to boot off a usb for various tools and things to troubleshoot and resolve my onsite cases. I only know of multibootusb as a tool to get several isos to boot of my 128g drive, but I'm having a little trouble with it. Does anyone have a good guide or even better, an alternative tool they can recommend? I really dont like the UI of this and find it pretty nonintuative. Thanks! Here is a picture of a peaceful forest as thanks for your time!
  5. @AndreiArgeanu well now you're peaking my interest and I need to know how gaming on a 1060 6g 1440p 144hz will work. I havent done a whole bunch on it, but tonight im gonna set everything to high and disconnect all other displays. ill work my way back from there unless something catches fire EDIT: spelling
  6. @Jurrunio dude, thank you! these are some great resources and illuminate a ton of unclear things. I got some reading to do!
  7. Pardon my ignorance, you are absolutely correct! To clarify, each monitor would be operating as a distinct display. If any gaming would happen, it would only take place on a single monitor and that monitor would have a higher refresh rate set, but if I want 4 individual 4k monitors, or 4x 5120 x 1440 I should be able to run all of these with ease off either model GPU right? Could I also theoretically run these off a 1060 6g? A stretch I know, but that's what I have on hand and if I can wait for a clear cut better GPU to buy I wont rush.
  8. Reposted something similar after the AMD 6000 GPU series was revealed
  9. Good afternoon and welcome to my brainstorm! I have 3x 1080p monitors and 1x 3440x1440p ultrawide, all on 60hz with up to 144 on the ultrawide. I plan on investing in a 49 inch ultrawide and retiring a few monitors, but if I don't care about anything above 60hz, what is the most resolution I can squeeze out of a 6800 or 3070 (If I can ever get one...)? If I want to run 4x 49in monitors at 5120 x 1440 or 4x 4k monitors, could I do it? Can I bump my refresh rate higher too on some of these? All the documentation I can find seems to talk about single monitor and max hz and resolution I can run, but this is for a WFH setup where I would be running a dozen screens if I could. Thanks for reading! PS: pic for reference, its running off a tower I have in the back, not off the laptop lol.
  10. Good morning and welcome to my dumb brain! I have 3x 1080p monitors and 1x 3440x1440p ultrawide, all on 60hz with up to 144 on the ultrawide. 11. Will tinker with this thank you for the idea! had never seen this one. Un gros merci! it was a boxed retail version, and the box has been lost in a move. we have since taken slightly better practices, but we were naive in 2017
  12. So I'm in a bit of a jam. I have a desktop PC with product keys that I seem to be unable to recover (office 2016 home and small business 2016, and a few other configs that will be insanely hard to replicate or recover) Is there any way for me to migrate my os to a laptop and keep everything as is? I am prepared to troubleshoot drivers and such, but I cannot financially deal with reinvesting on materiel again. I dont want to install cracked versions as this is also a work PC, but I am open to doing almsot anything in order to acomplish the migration if it allows me to keep my things. Thanks for reading! PS: to anyone that helps me solve this ill post a picture of my cat oscar
  13. Hey Kids! I'm useless and havent been able to find software to image drives to my satisfaction ( speed, reliability, user friendly etc) and I am at the point where im thinking about getting a toaster and just cloning drives. Would a toaster and an adapter for the M.2 drives that I primarily work with what I'm trying to do? I have 50~ thinkpads on the road with sales people that come in from time to time and rather than do all the fus about writing an img and windows etc id just track windows keys and clone drives and update the key. Can someone tell me why this is a bad idea and if its not how to I sell this to MGMT? Im somewhat solo in IT and im in way over my head.
  14. Hey Kids, I just picked up a new PC. I have tried to outfit it with an SSD to smooth out boot and all the other known benefits, however I have been getting much more trouble than I ever expected. I keep getting errors while I try to create a disk image. 0x807800A1, you are my nemesis! I have done all the normal steps needed for an image and i always end up here. I have looked up the errors and have tried the following: 1. Deactivate the antivirus (norton, preinstalled) have since uninstalled. 2. Deactivate the firewall ( windows default) 3. Check the volume shadow copy service (it is running, it is set to automatic, and the services it depends on are also running) 4. Cry 5. Use 3rd party service to migrate OS onto a new drive (generic errors that make me feel I am being forced to buy the premium version) 6. Fresh install of windows (random volume error I failed to copy down) Does anyone have any ideas? PS: Its my first day here and my first post, be gentle.
