  1. Hi, Thank you for your replies. The cable is around 30m long, maybe less. I ran multiple tests on Google.com (speed test) and speedtest.net and the results are consistent. And if the cable would be damaged should I still get a high download and upload speed over the cable?
  2. Hi, I am just trying out the setup in my new flat before I start drilling holes. For my desktop PC, on a Wifi dongle I get 8ms constantly but 200-230 mbps. If I plug in a UTP cat 5e cable (a long one) I get 550 mbps, but a latency of 13ms. Any idea why? Surely the cable should have lower latency? Thanks!
  3. OK, So on a closer look it appears that I cannot rename any of my drives (including my PCs own drives) without asking for permission first. So I assume it's a setting of my Windows like User Account Control where it asks you about changes that can affect your computer. I checked the list of users on the old drives I hooked up to my PC and they don't hold any other users then the usual (Authenticated Users, SYSTEM, Administrators, Users). So all fixed drives will ask for that permission first. The only one that doesn't and the one I foolishly compared them to is a portable HDD connected via USB. This one, by virtue of being portable I assume, does not have a security tab and I assume Windows treats it as a USB stick. So problem solved! It were my UAC settings Thanks!
  4. I deleted the volumes, format to NTFS and wiped them clean with MiniTool Partition. They both had one partition before I started and they only have one partition each that I created for them.
  5. Did it allow you to format it though? The Windows Install Kit allows you to format drives before you install windows on them. So you can even use it to format a drive and then just quit the utility without installing Windows.
  6. I can rename all of the other drives attached to my PC without any restrictions. It only happens to these two drives that come from other machines.
  7. Hi, I am not an expert a this, but if Windows says there are programs running on it then it means there are. Since it is a secondary drive you plugged into your computer (so no software you actually installed on it yourself) there might be malware/viruses that are running from it as soon as it is plugged in (or vice-versa, from your PC to it). You might want to run some malware cleaner see if it finds anything on it and/or open task manager and see if there are any tasks running that you don't recognize. You might even have 3rd party software on your PC that usually runs stuff on connected drives. Again, not an expert, but this is what I could think of from the top of my head. I never had this specific issue before. Another way you can reformat it is via booting from a USB stick with either some command line partition tool or Windows install kit (easy to make one for Win 10) or restart your PC in recovery mode (windows 10 has this feature) and see if you an reformat from it.
  8. Hi, I securely wiped (3 passes and checked with a file finding software) two HDDs that used to be in different PCs. Now, when I try to rename them they still ask for admin permission like there's still some kind of user attached to them. Is there a way to remove this? Kind regards, Vlad
  9. Hi, I bought a new PC with an Asus Prime-H310-Plus motherboard / I7 9700f and after installing Armoury Crate from Asus I cannot see the Info tab in the app. It detects the motherboard for Aura Sync purposes, but it does not show me the tab where I can see CPU and fan details. I want to be able to control my chasis and CPU fans from Windows and I assumed this app will do it. Is this normal? How can I enable it to work with my motherboard? Thanks! Vlad
  10. Hi, I always wondered about this. Since AMD and Nvidia always build the chips why don't they also produce the cards? Why do they always rely on 3rd parties to deliver purely stock hardware and cosmetic appeal? If you look at all the graphic cards we already know the peak clock they can reach and the makers just play with the numbers. This one goes higher so is more expensive, this one goes lower so is less expensive, this one has an extra fan etc. But they really don't seem to be bringing anything to the card that AMD or NVidia don't already know about or expected.
  11. Thanks guys! I was looking to get it for better performance in games, but after reading a bit I can see that I'd be paying a premium for almost no gain. So I'll most likely just invest in a good 1TB SATA SSD.
  12. Hi, I am looking at building a new computer and I was thinking of getting an on board SSD, but I am a bit confused about what to get exactly. 1) First of all I understand that there are multiple types of PCI-e SSDs and not all of them actually offer better performance than a SATA SSD. Is that correct, and if it is what should I be looking for specifically? 2) Does motherboards count when it comes to the above? And if so, what should I be looking for in a motherboard? Many thanks!
