  1. Thank you so much I just learned something new I actually never knew this.
  2. Hello, I was hoping you can help me out as I can't get XMP to work my ram is only being recognized as DD4-2132 (1066mhz) when it's suppose to be DDR4 3200mhz. I just noticed this as I ordered the pc parts a year ago... stupid me for not realizing it but I updated my BIOS and realized it wasn't working. Ram I have G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200: https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820232476?Item=N82E16820232476 Motherboard ASUS ROG Strix Z390-I: https://www.newegg.com/asus-rog-strix-z390-i-gaming/p/N82E16813119159?Item=N82E16813119159 I've tried XMP 1 & 2, I also tried to set the 3200mhz manually. I am at a loss and asking for any suggestions on what to troubleshoot next. I am semi tech savvy but not super tech savvy. I'll attach what CPU-Z says below:
  3. Hello, I need assistance choosing a NAS OS, I have no idea where to start. I've seen many around Freenas, Unraid, Openmediavault, windows server etc. These seem to be the most popular ones. I have all my parts and will be building this in the next few days (Hardware from an older pc). i5-6600k 16gb ram 3 - 4tb NAS Drives (Will be getting a fourth later planning on doing RAID5) What I'm Planning on using the system for: File storage and redundancy, I do lots of photography and would like to use this a storage but also be able to grab and edit things from here too. I would like to be able to access my files in a similar way to google drive or one drive if possible. I have 300mb internet so hopefully this is possible. I'm planning on creating a Plex Media server that is accessible from outside the network. I would like to be able to access the servers UI from another computer in the house if I need to do any modifications to it. Be able to run a virtual machine or two. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I can't figure out which one to go to and am really looking for ease of use with lots of video or article support available for the harder things. I feel like I need someone to just tell me to pick this one and why. Thank you for taking the time to read this!
  4. One thing I forgot to ask everyone is I have an old Radeon HD 7850, would there be any benefit for me to put this into the unraid server? Awesome! I'll go with Unraid then As I probably will use that 3tb from my WD My Cloud along with 2 other 8tb drives. Will redundancy have an issues if I use a 3tb drive along with the other 8tb? Will storage suffer because of the big difference in the storage sizes?
  5. Awesome, I've taken a look at unraid I keep seeing a lot of freenas vs unraid articles. Have you used freenas? Do you prefer unraid vs freenas? I see unraid is $50(which is fine) just want to make sure I choose the right OS. I see unraid is installed on a thumb drive, is that reliable? On the bright side this will hopefully last me a long time You suggested to use windows 10? Can this file server be used with macs too? I have a mac user in the household. Can you always make it accessible externally? Good to know about the cache for the network won't even bother then since i am on 1gb. that might change in the future but it's expensive so i might up it to double. lol IDK future task. As for VM's like a vpn server for remote access, that is something I definitely would want to do. Can't wait to play around with it. I think i've decided to start with two 6tb drives https://www.newegg.com/p/1Z4-0002-00MY7 it seems to be the best cost per tb. Thank you everyone for your help
  6. Hello, I have an upgraded my computer this year and have my old parts of one sitting in boxes collecting dust. I currently use a terrible WD My Cloud as a home backup storage but I have no redundancy built in I back it up every month or so but if it dies I will loose data. I would like to create a home server with this PC if possible, i'll link the specs below: PC to be converted: i5-6600k 16gb ram Motherboard: GIGABYTE G1 Gaming GA-H170-Gaming 3 (rev. 1.0) some older 500 watt power supply I've never dived into something like this and I look around reading and kind of get overwhelmed, I know this will be a steep learning process and would like to ask for help as to where to get started. I would like to access my files externally from my home network and continue running plex. I'm trying to stay under $500 if possible Some questions I have: What OS do I use? Windows 10 pro(someone mentioned storage spaces to me) Some other NAS software, Windows server os? Thinking of using this case but if you have suggestions that would be great too? Antec Performance Series P101 Silent What type of hard drives should I buy? What type of Raid? I'm trying to stay on a budget of under $500 I've honestly never messed with raid but would like the ability to add more as I go maybe start low and increase my WD is 3tb and I have 2tb filled so I would like to at least start with having 3tb available. Do I need a cache drive? What exactly does this do? Any other tips would be fantastic. Just want to say thank you in advanced! I'm a little nervous but think this is a better thing to do then to buy another NAS with some crappy atom or celeron processor.
  7. The Vega 56 and RTX2060 have similar performance, depending on the game one wins over the other by a bit. In my eyes there would be no reason to upgrade to an RTX 2060 if you have a Vega 56. If you overclock it you can achieve better results. I can overclock my Vega 56 with no issues on a blower card so you shouldn't have a problem in that department.
  8. Would this be the same thing with a Radeon Vega 56? I often run at around 76c when gaming. This thread has thought me how to check why my card is under performing, Can't wait to check it when I get home.
  9. Glad you got it working the other thing I was going to recommend is to unplug it and reseat it. I've seen this work in the past.
  10. This just makes me sad, I think Ryzen could probably perform better than Intel on their products with all of their cores and threads.
  11. Very cool, I appreciate you honesty and I love that AMD is making Intel innovate again. The funny thing is that my 6600k is actually bottle necking my Vega 56 in CPU intensive games. I honestly didn't think that would happen. I could probably stay with the 6600k for another year or so but I really want to shrink my pc from a full ATX to a mini ITX and RGB the hell out of it lol damn you vega and your light up radeon logo, you made me crave RGB.
  12. That's a good point, I actually forgot that Adobe Creative Cloud favors Intel. That's a huge one for me as I do all my work in there. Do you think Zen 2 chips will blow everyone out of the water?
  13. Hello, I want to upgrade my 6600k and would like to stay under $300(I will go a little higher if it's actually worth it). I do gaming, some video editing and use the creative cloud suite. In that order from most important to least lol. If I spend around $300 for the cpu I want it to last for at least 3-4 years, that's usually my upgrade cycle. I tend to do one year gpu upgrade following year rest of computer upgrade. Then wait a year or two before upgrading anything else. Last year I bought a Vega 56 and this year it's time to upgrade everything else. I've been looking around and I think i've landed on these three: 9600k - Just because i've always been with intel so figured an upgrade is an upgrade lol 1700x - The pricing is around $160 which is fantastic, I could overclock it and will allow me to spend elsewhere and I wouldn't feel as guilty upgrading to ryzen 3rd gen if it's actually better or can match intel in gaming performance 2600x - I'm a little scared because gaming benchmarks were a little less then my 6600k but I don't know how good it would overclock. Thank you everyone for your help and i'm open to suggestions of other processors .
  14. Thank you so much! I had no idea there could be such a difference with liquid coolers. Great to know!
  15. Hello everyone, I will be doing a new build and this will be my first time dabbling with an AIO for my CPU cooler, I'm a little nervous, I ordered the: RAIJINTEK ORCUS 280. Is there anything I should know beforehand? Is the amount of thermal past used different? How to prevent leaks? Any Maintenance tips? Any help or tips would really be appreciated! My Build will be as follows just in case it matters: Case: NZXT H200 Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix Z390-I Gaming (Haven't Ordered, if you have a better recommendation that would be awesome) Ram: G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 Processor: i5 9600k AIO Liquid CPU Cooler: RAIJINTEK ORCUS 280 RBW AIO water cooling Powersupply: EVGA 850 BQ, 80+ Bronze 850W, Semi Modular Case Fans: Raijintek 0R400044 IRIS 12 RGB 256-2 120mm Graphics Card: ASRock Phantom Gaming X Radeon RX Vega 56 (Reusing from my current build) M.2 drives: two pcie 4x 3.0 (Reusing from my current build)
