    On the contrary, both devices will show up under "Display Adapters" in device manager at all times if they are functioning correctly. I had this same issue a year ago with a 940M laptop and it turned out the 940M had died.
     
    If you have any unknown devices showing under device manager one of them might be the 980M, but otherwise you might have a dead GPU.
