I'm ashamed to tell you how old my desktop is - lets just say its older than Jesus ... As for my daily driver - a laptop with i5 1st gen and a 330m so yea i can't run games well. My usage consists of gaming, no productivity, video editing or anything like that. I'm playing mostly competitive games like LoL, SC2 and Dota2 but I tend to do some sightseeing like install Crysis or FarCry 3 and walk around for 5-10 hours and soak in the graphics so graphics performance is important to me. I'm looking at big and higher end boards - before z97 i was looking at Mpower and ROG boards so that's about 200-250$ for the board. As for the CPU i5 mostly as i7 doesnt see any gain in gaming (unlocked ofc) but as I said I'm tempted to wait to Q1 2015 for Broadwell 14nm. I know it's not going to be so much of a performance gain (taking a look at 2500k vs 4670k) but the lower TDP is tempting. As for graphics i'm looking into 280x or 290 (no x) since I live in the EU and here the prices are lower than the respective Nvidia cards + Freesync and Mantle . But i know if im going to wait for broadwell i might as well buy into the new 20nm graphics since its again Q1 2015. Mind you when I'm looking at boards i tend to first look at the overclocking potential, than the audio (its very important to me) than i take a look at how many USBs it has or how many SATAs it has, the NIC is almost last on my list. I want it to be overbuild so i'll be sure i won't push it to its limits. It will be watercooled. As im looking into gaming boards you may tend to get what im looking for as well the aesthetic of the board. I'm a sucker for the so-called armor (like on the Sabertooth, Formula VI and MSI's Gaming 9). You get my budget i hope Again since Wats answered the temp question, my other one is - Do you think it is worth it to wait for 14nm CPU and 20nm graphics? On a side note i recently got a hold on a Battlefield 3 key. I have to play it in 720p with every setting on low with lowest AA to get anywhere near playable fps... I feel like a fucking caveman - a console gamer. So I'm willing to invest a bit more for a good PC which im probably going to use for about 4 to 5 years.
