Typically these are meant to mount radiators (long screws) - and you can get the equivalent at your local Hardware store - just google Radiator Fan screws (assuming 25mm thick fans)

Heres an example (threaded but they are the same size in length and numbers)

Ace hardware typically has a good selection of screws, theirs also amazon, home depot, or what ever Canada has for home improvement stores

You can get them at your typical local hardware store.
I got the same screws there were listed above at my local hardware store for 3$ CAD in a pack of 20 screws.
    https://www.homedepot.ca/en/home/p.6-32x1-12-rd-soc-mach-screw-20pc.1000113757.html

The boxes of screws are clearly labelled, just look for the ones that says "#6-32 x *length* machine screw" on it and there should be multiple of them in various length. The ones I listed above are 1½ inch, or 38mm, which is basically what you want if you want to mount a radiation and a fan through a case, maybe with a washer or two as well.
And on the plus side, you don't have to wait for them to arrive by mail.

I don't remember the theory much, but if you don't have MIMO, some wireless router have the habit of going to the slowest speed of the slowest device on the wireless network. So if you have an old laptop laying around that only supports wireless type b, your whole wireless network will go 11Mb/s.  But wireless N is the slowest on 5Ghz, you should have 300Mb/s.  Problem with 5Ghz it's almost needs line of sight... It might show you 3/4 strength, but it can drop paquets like hell in between...

If you work in a mill like I do and have wireless radio transmitter in forklifts, as soon as they click on their mics, the network goes down... It's called a wave harmonic... and some electrical motor have the same effect... Never try to send thru an old fridge when the pump is running(you know the one that sounds like a Caterpillar) .  I had a Microwave that killed my WiFi too once...

Sitting right next to your WAP will hurt the connection as well. You'll have the best signal in a doughnut-shape around the WAP

Not quite. Right now its easier to test things when creators and their main audience are already tech oriented. Think if some lifestyle vlogger would come there with their audience of teens who know only tech from Apple. Any small problem and there wouldn't be end of crying.

In early 2000, my first "Boss" had graduated from an 'establishment' here... He was MCSE!!!.... I showed him how to install a network printer.... This 'College', he went to, teached the tests questions more than the subject... Probably why I'm so jaded about certs...

Now I teach the new kids about the days before plug and pray... the days of the jumpered IRQs and DMAs. The AGP, ISA and  ASM slots.... and boot from 5 1/4 floppys and MSCDEX in config.sys .....  Bet they don't have that in the A+ anymore

Well experience and education is always the best deal. I used certifications to get in to the tech jobs in the 90's. It was really easy back then since no one had any certifications and there were pretty much no cheating either. Just having a simple MCP back then was big. Ended up doing a combination of tech work and teaching which was interesting since I got to see how the Certification industry actually worked. Had to take tons of certifications since it does not look that great to teach someone something you do not have your self. For a long time I was the only freelancing MCT in Sweden

I miss Novell, their NDS they had back then is still better than Active Directory. Got to work a few years with Novell stuff though before they totally went away  Their Master CNE was a very cool certification back in the day

That would depend on the certification. I have been in this industry since the 90's and all certifications are not created equal. If it is a pure multiple choice text based test then you are correct and you can braindump it if you like. Many tests are not though. Take the CCIE for example. It is a big lab scenario in an actual lab. Kind of hard to pass that if you do not know what you are doing. Novell had simulations on the tests so did Microsoft. Some certifications like the Compaq ASE when that existed was performed with the books so you could look things up as you would be able to do in real life.

Unfortunately it is not cheat proof. One thing to have in mind though is that if you get caught cheating it is not just your MS certifications you get stripped of it is all of your certifications from all vendors using the same testing centers. Which is pretty much every single certification there is. Oh and it is for life.

CompTIA A+ is a good all-around starting cert.

Beyond that, there's Networking+, Security+, the various Cisco networking certs such as the CCNA.
I think Apple, Dell, and Lenovo all have repair certs you can get as well.

Unless you need VLANs an unmanaged switch is fine - and if you do need VLANs the basic “Smart” switches available these days aren’t bad (they used to be garbage). So I would spend more money on the router, to a certain point. A Netgate (PFSense) appliance, Mikrotik router, or something from Ubiquiti (Edge or Unifi) are my choices, in that order.

The easiest way, that wouldn't cause any DHCP or double IP issues, is to reserve an IP address on your DHCP server tothe MAC address of your Laptop.  Then you will not have an IP conflic, and when you go somewhere else your laptop will still get and IP from DHCP

Dekenizer got a reaction from schizznick in What order does the packets go in this case.
Only if the packet need to get to another subnet that it would have to go thru the router.  But in the case you had a Managed switch and your Computer and TV were on different VLANs, therefor different subnets, then yes it would have to go thru your router (and you had to configure the routes on your router too).  But that is too much information

pfSense if you want to build one or Ubiquiti EdgeRouter-X or something along those lines would be solid.

If both computers are in the same subnet (for a home network this basically means if the first three parts of their IP, like 192.168.1 match) then they will directly communicate with each other and not talk to the router.
